I’m sure you’ve already heard this a ton but insomnicsy is a fan favorite when it comes to dreamcatcher personality videos, the “this is” series for example is good to get to know a little bit about each member (there’s been a new one every year after the first one but they all have different information so it’s not repetitive) and there’s a lot of other fun videos to see because dreamcatcher put out so much content, insomnicsy just has a lot of great videos to choose from tbh
Sadly, Dreamcatcher very much was ostracized for their use of rock music. Some other fantastic videos (namely "Road to Fame" by Insomnicsy specifically) have clips of members talking about how people would often ignore them or put them down for it, Siyeon specifically even told an interviewer that she was told if they ever hope to be successful or popular that they need to drop the rock music.
Thankfully stuck with it and it's paid off. They've really taken off the past couple years and had some major accomplishments including their first win, and being the first k-pop act ever invited to the Primavera Sound rock festival. They've been featured in various articles lately, too, described as "the face of rock in K-Pop." And more importantly, all seven just renewed their contracts at the end of last year.
Pronunciation guide :
Jiu - Gee you
Sua- Sue ah
Siyeon- she yun
Handong- Hahn dong
Yoohyeon- you hyun
Dami- Dah mee
Gahyeon- gah hyun
The 'eo' sound (single syllable) is more like the 'o' in 'on' so I normally go with:
Siyeon - Shee-yon
Yoohyeon - Yoo-hyon
Gahyeon - Gah-hyon
Where hyon is a single syllable - yon with a short huh sound at the start.
@@EOC77 Sorry but that's not right. She pronounces it Gee-yoo and she signs photocards 지유
22:22 yes handong was missing from the scream and boca videos because she was stuck in china during covid. the clip you saw of her singing scream was after she came back
also fun fact: she came back VERY confident from the china elimination show
7:45 yes they meant “black sheep” in that way. actually it has to do with korea’s history. until the 80s, rock music was completely banned in korea (idk the exact reason so you may need to do some reason about it if you’re interested). so that’s why this genre of music isn’t popular there, especially with the older generation. but thanks to dreamcatcher and some other rock groups it’s starting to get more recognized and appreciated by the younger generation
Some Punk musicians went stark naked on live TV. After that Rock was dead in Korea.
ua-cam.com/video/n8C_j9IGT7Y/v-deo.html
There was once indie, rock and punk in Korea. It changed quite suddenly in 2005. A TV show called Live Music Camp was showcasing indie artists, and so it happened that the punk rock band called Rux was performing one day, and invited friends from other bands to dance with them on the stage. Two of those guests thought it would be a good idea to drop trou, and whirl their sausages around. In front of an audience. On live television. In a very, very conservative country. The editor cut it off after 5-10 seconds, but it was enough to scandalise the nation. Arrests were made, people lost jobs, the show was cancelled, and indie bands got blacklisted from TV for several years. Even after, the bands never really regained even a shred of popularity they enjoyed. And rock's name was mud.
Lol don't underestimate InSomnia. We like the long ass videos about Dreamcatcher. Don't worry we will consume😂😂😂 You can decide on whatever you like to watch don't worry about that too. There's still a ton of it. You guys barely scratch the surface. Keep on posting great reaction video😉
The reason for Loudcatcher is because you have 7 main vocal level rock singers in one group.
They’ve definitely been a black sheep in Korea, and you could say they’re one of the underdog groups in Kpop, but they’ve worked so hard over the years and have organically grown their fanbase in Korea and especially internationally. They were often ignored or treated like second class citizens by a lot of the industry for doing rock-based music, and really worked hard to promote themselves and show just how talented they are (like.. they only got their first win in 2022), with them finally starting to gain some more respect and recognition domestically. They are so tenacious.. they have stuck to their core sound and never changed their badass image, They genuinely really value their fans especially the lucky Insomnias who have been around from the start. However, a lot of kpop idols/producers/managers in Kpop really respect and admire the Dreamcatcher members for their talent, hustle, professionalism and friendly attitudes. They’re one of the few groups where all members renewed their contacts together, which is a big deal. They also call themselves “staircase idols” because they have slowly but surely worked their way up to success. Seriously.. there is so much to admire about these ladies!
I think the difference between boy groups and girl groups in terms of dance used to be much more pronounced than it is nowadays.
Girl groups used to dance in heels and there was the assumption that no one wanted to see them sweat so the choreography was easier.
I've literally seen second gen girl groups body rolling and waving their arms and that's the entire dance.
Now there's much less difference, girl groups are expected to have lots of footwork and formation changes too and are less likely to perform in heels.
That's a generalisation though and there have always been girl groups and female soloists who have incredible choreography.
First Law of Dreamcatcher: It's all of them. The talented one, the hot one, the weird one, the troublemaker, the sweet one, the one that ends up as your bias... it's all of them.
Your pronunciations were killing me at the start 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Adding my voice to the suggesting of Insomnicsy's "This Is" series. Maybe you could do 1 video for each member, doing all the versions from 2020-2023 ^^
Insomnicsy has lots of other great content too. One of my favorite series she does is their chemistry series, where she showcases different friendships in the group. Its very wholesome and fun
Yes, 100% to this! :)
The nightmare series is definitely a good choice to continue your journey! I think it is the most complex story they have and it will definitely take a few listens/watches to understand it so I recommend to enjoy the music and maybe try to get the bigger picture of the story but don't expect to get it first time around. Looking forward to your future reactions!
Yes! The nightmare series! So much BOP musics, So much crazy choreography, and So much interesting story line!
Oh, yes, Trophy! I always like to start reactors from the very beginnings of groups anyway. You will get to watch them grow and change and better undserstand things that happened around them if you see everything in chronological order. Obviously, sometimes veering out of order is fun too (I do understand that it is Human Nature not to want to stick to the same-ol'-rut all the time, totally understandable to veer off once in a while) but please just keep in mind the dates of the videos you see so you can keep the placement of those events in their career in mind.
Here are the Names of the Members and positions for new viewers:
8:25 JiU 🐰(Leader, Lead Vocalist, Lead Dancer, Visual)
12:30 SuA 🐥(Main Dancer, Sub Vocalist, Lead Rapper)
16:47 Siyeon 🐺 (Main Vocalist)
21:24 Handong 🐱 (Sub Vocalist)
25:24 Yoohyeon 🐶(Lead vocalist)
29:38 Dami 🐼 (Main Rapper, Lead Dancer, Sub Vocalist)
33:52 Gahyeon 🦊(Lead Rapper, Sub Vocalist, Maknae)
But don't limit them to their positions, Dreamcatcher is a group of 7 visuals, 7 amazing dancers, and 7 amazing vocalist. STAN DREAMCATCHER STAN TALENT!!! 😁❤
For those tuning, they are having a comeback this Nov 22, releasing with their new Title Track OOTD. ITS GOING TO BE HYPE!!! 🙌 Thank you so much for reacting to Dreamctacher! 🫶🫰🤟🤟🥹❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I approve of starting back at the beginning, and so does JiU (she recommends Chase Me as the first song anyone should listen to when getting into Dreamcatcher). So you are Dami and Siyeon bias's if I followed correctly? Then you'll have to check out Shadow and Shadow (slow version), which are songs made for the OST of the kdrama Dark Hole and performed by Siyeon and Dami. It's mostly Siyeon, but even Dami has some killer vocals in the slow version.
Collecting my trophy 🏆Very excited for you to check out the Nightmare series! I've been a fan of Dreamcatcher since their pre-debut dance & vocal videos and I love seeing people go back to their beginning and really get a full picture of how far they've come and why they're so loved around the world. Personally, Yoohyeon is my bias but Handong has been my bias wrecker since her orange hair (which she hates hehe) captured my heart during the What era (an overlooked comeback, but a timeless & loved one in my books). Can't wait for more Dreamcatcher (& Mamamoo, I'm also a moomoo - Moocatcher
I really enjoyed this. Nice to see reviewers that have an enthusiastic interest and that know very little.
I'm so pleased I got into Kpop over five years ago and Dreamcatcher early the next year. You have a lot of material to catch up and focus on.
Handong is Chinese so her first name is Dong with the last name Han. The members call her Dong, Dongie or Dong Dong. The other members are just known by their first names. If you're listening to them talking to each other you just have to remember the way Koreans use honorifics, which can be confusing at first. A younger member talking to an older member is supposed to add 'ya' after their name and then the whole thing is slurred together. Sua ya sounds like Su ya and so on.
The Nightmare series is still their most brilliant work (to me), since it's seven songs telling an ongoing story. Just watch in order of release, but remember the third song, Fly High, is actually a prequel in the story arc. The seventh song, Breaking Out, was a Japanese release so was overlooked by a lot of fans, but it does add a nice ending to the story.
Rock music is not popular in South Korea so the company bringing out a rock oriented group was a huge gamble (there's a reason they did this which would take too long to explain). Anyway the group probably would have failed if not for the fact that certain other countries love rock music and strongly supported them. The biggest part of the fanbase (InSomnia) is outside Korea. The Kpop industry inside South Korea tried to ignore them and at times actively tried to sabotage the group. If you want to dig into that era then watch this documentary about their struggles ua-cam.com/video/YIgCAp3i1os/v-deo.html
I get what you're saying about the names but to avoid confusion we should mention: SuA and Dami are stage names. They are Kim Bo Ra and Lee Yubin respectively.
I did it, I watched the whole video ! xD Yes, you should definitely do the nightmare series, great way to jump into Dreamcatcher. The songs are fast paced but very good and the mvs are interesting to get the lore behind DC. Great reactions, thank you !
This is.... By Insomnicsy please ❤
i fall in love with dc everytime i watched people reacting to the guide
I see Dreamcatcher I like!🤘Thank you for another great reaction.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you 💜💜💜
I definitely recommend going back to the beginning with the Nightmare series. They have a fantastic discography that started really strong and has only continued to evolve and mature as they've gone along. Looking at people's song rankings for Dreamcatchers discography is always so interesting because everyone's lists are always so varied, which is a reflection of how strong and diverse their discography is. It pretty much just comes down to personal preference.
Once you get through the titles, you'll have to start checking out the albums.
Y'all really are falling head over heels for both of my ultimate favorite groups (mamamoo and dreamcatcher) at the same time XD love this for me and love this for you, cuz you're right you'll never run out of entertaining things to watch with either of them. Can't wait to see more!
This is series 2020-2023 by Insomnicsy is the best way to know their little quirks and personalities.
Dodging disbandment and other extreme history sports by Mera is a good video on Dreamcatcher's back story and why their first win was a big thing, even for non-InSomnias. It's a way to know how and why some InSomnias act in a way.
Dreamcatcher ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
handong and jiu haha you have the other members names right lol
the world of dreamcatcher two part video is actually the BBC Doctor Foster remake done in Korea. it's good lol
Yay Dreamcatcher ♥
Thank you for getting to know them.Thank you Thank you.
actually there's another one that i really recommend to react or you can just watch yourselves when having time ::
"dodging disbandment and other extreme sports: a history of dreamcatcher" by Mera
eventho its pretty outdated but the timeline of the beginning of them is really detailed
just saying cuz this one also made me know that they went through a lot before becoming this strong ♥
드림캐처가 세계관 정립이라던가 유일하고 독보적인 메탈컨셉등 덕질하는 재미가 있음
45 mins input in brain would be wiped out by Sua’s laughter 😂😂😂
i would say the expectations of dancing between boy groups and girl groups aren't different, but the perceptions are.
it is true that some girl groups choreo are dance focused on the hand movements, and some people would say boring in comparison to boy groups that tend to combine with footworks with big movements, however that doesn't mean girl group choreo are EASY.
most girl groups dance with high heels which would be pretty difficult for them to do crazy footwork steps and all, (they also have periods, which is not me giving excuses on their behalf, it's just fact). it's also based on the concept of the song. like we do not need crazy hard hitting choreo for sweet melodic girl groups songs.
however, dreamcatcher songs are always hard hitting, so their choreo would have to match that wouldn't they they. which is why they wear boots most of the times. this can also be said for groups like everglow, itzy, and new jeans.
it's all a matter of concepts and outfits. girl groups choreo are as equally hard and interesting as boy group ones.
19:24 siyeon is called a “wolf” because of her eyes and intense stare btw
Bonus content: Mamamoo watching Minx's rehearsal back in the day .....

dreamcatcher \:D/
one thing you might want to consider is doing two videos for each of the nightmare series songs. of course the mv and then either a dance practice or fancam live performance(there are many high quality 4k ones). I'm mentioning fancam here to avoid potential copyright issues for live performance from korean broadcast channels. with a dual reaction, you can get a glimpse of the choreo/live performance and it also gives you a chance to listen to a song twice. a lot of dreamcatcher songs are unconventional so it might take a few listens to really understand where they are going with a song.
If you want to know why they called a black sheep of a Kpop, here is a video that maybe can told you why...

It is somewhat oblige for every InSomnia to watch that...
Cause a lot of us have multiply our respects for the Ladies and the company after watching this...
You may react to it or just watch it on your own privacy time
Stay safe, keep healthy, and have great days
very necessary to see their b-side songs and their covers DC are the queens of covers... they have a ability for turning a famous song into their own.. self-made mv, Dreamcatcher mind 10 ep show and their parody of the series the world of marriage (the world of Dreamcatcher) the comparison with the original version is brilliant.... it was during one of the lockdowns all the pros and the music were done by them on a low budget... Insomnia is a well feed fandom....
Handong's shoot in China for Youth With You 2 was only meant to be a couple of months which is why Sooyeon (their fellow trainee for Minx, current choreographer and recently debuted solo artist) is wearing a mask and taking what was expected to be Handong's place in Scream. But the shoot went into Jan. 2020 and Handong was then stuck in China through October. Her Chinese agency did help her record an album during lockdown.
Sooyeon's confirmed she's not the masked dancer in the video/performances. Body type certainly doesn't match up. *Might* be Riye but nobody really knows.
Yoohyeon little mix's cover secret love song is good if u love little mix!
Siyeon is pronounced “she- yun” . It makes much more sense written in Hangul as the “s” and “I” in her name makes the sound “shi” when placed together.
Funfact: When it comes to transcribed Korean, any time an S is followed by an I or Y it's pronounced 'she'. In any other case it's pronounced like a normal S.
Examples
Siyeon = she-yun
Soojin = Soo-jin
please introduction dreamcatcher being unfiltered idols All parts
전부다 진심으로 명곡이야😊
Yes! A trophy!
Since you're still a bit unfamiliar with the names and faces, and to get to know a bit more of their personalities, my recommendation would be to first watch the oldest "This is..." series on the insomnicsy channel. I suggest the oldest (so 2019 I think) because after that I definitely agree to start with the Nightmare series (Chase Me), so it will help the most with recognizing them during that era.
JiU can be pronounced either way, "Jiu" or "Ji U". Korean names are comprised of three parts. For example, JiU's real name would be written as "Kim Min Ji". But, that's the more formal way, sort of like filling in the blanks on a legal document. More casually, you can drop the surname and combine the rest into "Minji". Think of it like "Mi Chael" and "Michael".
Dear Sir and Lady, I appreciate much you listening to DC’s songs. But the main vocal Siyeon, her name is not “see-yon”, it is “she-yon”❤️
Some Call Her The Shadow Warrior ⚔,
Some Call Her The Dark Knight ⚔,
Some Call Her The Rebel Angel ⚔.

São as melhores.
Be ready for the Nightmare series. Not for the songs... they're all great, but to constantly mix up Handong & Yooyeon. Heck even their own mothers got them confused at times.
Also, the Music Bank performance of Black or White is awesome, the crew there did our girls proud. Personally I prefer it to the performance video.
Their B-sides are among the best in kpop (IMO) and do not skip out on their covers.
been enjoying your journey into Dreamcatcher and Mamamoo, hope you are able to get to others *cough* Red Velvet *cough*
Anyway cheers and look forward to your next.
