Look at kensei's moveset. It's described in there. But in (not so) short, whenever he dashes his sword glows white for a small moment and his guard switches to the side he dashes toward. If he does a side dash correctly timed as an enemy attacks the same side, kensei "deflects" it (with superior block) which (should) stagger his opponent long enough to give kensei a free swift strike which is his side dash attack. If kensei manages a fowar dash while his opponent does a top attack, his deflect now gives him a confirmed GB. For it to work, you need the enemy strike to hit kensei on the correct side (same side as his dash direction) and at the right time (enemy attack lands while his sword glows white).
