In the mid 90's to before, they used to reserve late games generally for West Coast teams, based on time zones rather than based on importance. There were less prime time games in those days so people would watch early afternoon games.
Bruce Smith The first player selected in the 1985 NFL Draft. Named the AFC Defensive Rookie of the Year by the NFL Players Association, he went on to be named the NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 1990 and 1996 and the AFC Defensive Player of the Year in 1987, 1988, 1990, and 1996. He also earned first-team All-Pro honors nine times and was selected to play in 11 Pro Bowls.
Don’t forget about Derek Thomas what he would’ve accomplished if he would still been alive to play the rest of his career in nine years there are still many records that nobody even gets close to
@@jimmykcguido5711, please. At Thomas’ death he had already played 11 seasons. He wasn’t going to play 15 seasons because Thomas was a horrible practice player.
Derrick Thomas couldn't stop the run. That's why the bills ran straight at him in 1993 AFCCG and Thurman ran for over 180 yards. He was a great pass rusher yes, but not a great all around player like Bruce Smith was.
I remember this game! I'm about to upload an old VHS capture of some commercials at the end of it. I thought that weird strobing and brightness issue was just with my copy!
Arrowhead AstorTurf. So beautiful! Last year with it. I believe Joe Montana bitched about it, and since he was Joe Montana, his words carried weight and the management ditched the turf for grass.
Mike Ditka seems to hold his tongue when Marv Albert talks about Marv Levy. Ditka had a grudge with Levy after the Bills rested their starters against the Lions, and the Lions ended up winning the NFC Central over da Bears in 1991.

Steve young said if he knew the defensive calls of his opponents their would hardly be a reason to play the game. Its "game over." Their is much more, i dont wanna go into. I love the FOOTBALL like most of us, but come on, the REALITY is they cheated BIG TIME. They Video taped hand signals, had diagrams to what the play call is AND communicated that directly to BRADY PRE SNAP at the LINE OF SCRIMMAGE. He had coaches assistance at pre snap situations. Its a disgrace. I used to love watching Brady play, even tho im not a NE fan. Now, its pretty obvious to anyone NOT in a state of cognitive dissonance that he's a product of the worst cheating scandal in sports history.
@Sean S. Claiming anyone is the greatest of all time at QB is asinine. You can't compare QBs across eras. You can only say who is the best w/in their own era. Perhaps you can make an argument by determining who is the best by figuring out who was more superior to other QBs of his era than other QBs in their own eras, but I question even that methodology.
@Sean S. You simply can NOT compare today's QB's with the old. The pass interference level is so ridiculously much higher today than it was back in the day! That alone plays a HUGE difference in QB's and receivers statistics not to mention all of the other stupid changes in rules today! You even touch a QB today and you get flagged for something! Players today will never retain the kind of respect in comparison to the players of old and that's because of all of the pampering in the game and obserd amount of money they're making today! Just two completely different worlds of football all together!
@Sean S. Joe Montana 4-0. Brady wouldn't do well in this era. Montana would dominate in this era. I say that bc of the rules of the game 2day. U can't touch the QB nor play defense. Now Brady is the best of this era. Most of the changes is bc of him. As far as winning the AFC east get real what competition did the Patriots have. They were good for 5-6 wins b4 the season started with the division they were in. Except for the 09-10 season when the Jets had Rex Ryan as Coach. If they had 2play in the AFC north how would they have faired.?
Buffalo was 8-2 going into this game. They would lose this game and the next one against the Raiders, and still got to the AFC Championship beating these same Chiefs. In the 1993 season I didn't get to see the first meeting between these two teams.
Victor Kreitner I was at that championship game in Buffalo with my Dad. Joe Montana got knocked out of that game and Buffalo went to their 4th straight super bowl
Incredibly, Ralph Wilson fired Bill Polian after SB XXVII....despite Buffalo going to its third straight Super Bowl...Assistant GM John Butler was the new GM during this matchup between the Bills and Chiefs
Jason Peters - The Bills should've won the first one against the giants because they were the better overall team! After that they were obviously CURSED!!!!! And I will go to my grave knowing that!
Bills should've won the first one. The Giants were seasoned and pulled out every trick on and off the field to win the game. Barely. I heard LT sent prostitutes to the Bills hotel the night before the game.
Imagine if the rematch in the playoffs had been a Chiefs home game! Though they would have lost to the Cowboys..no one could beat the NFC in those days.
The Bills were still good but vulnerable in 1993. Best D in the AFC, but the Offense was starting to show the first signs of age. Buffalo was able to beat LA and KC in the playoffs with the help of General Winter at Orchard Park.
The Chiefs proved in this game that they could not only beat the Bills, but beat them soundly. That's why it's particularly sad they subsequently choked against them in the AFC championship game, because that meant NFL fans had to endure yet another Super Bowl watching Buffalo get *dominated* by a superior team.
SingleTax What hurt KC was not getting one more win that would have given them a head to head tiebreaker over Buffalo. Their loss at home to the Bears and the blocked punt at Denver ultimately cost them a higher seed that would have forced the Bills to come to Arrowhead. Although even that would not have guaranteed KC beats Dallas in the SB.
That afc championship game would of turned out different if Montana hadnt got knocked out and kimble anders doesnt drop that pass in the red zone that led to a pick.. Those two instances changed the game
Imagine seeing these 90’s games in a 4k resolution. It would boggle the mind.
Wow to see Montana and Allen out there again.
Thank you, KSportsArchives!!
A rare late start at Arrowhead in its artificial turf years
I'm a bills fans. Why were there rare late starts when they had astroturf?

NFL 1993 Comeback player of the year Marcus Allen

Loved watching Joe Montana and Marcus Allen play for the Chiefs. During the 80s, early 90s he was the GOAT. He was before Tom Brady.
God...I could listen to Iron Mike Ditka break down the Xs and Os all day long
