I'm a truck driver. They say if trucks stopped delivering food to a major city like New York, in three days they'd have a serious problem.
Less, panic in 2 days.
It would get ‘serious’ the minute people figured out no more supplies were incoming. Within three days in the cities people would be killing and eating each other.

A sizable percentage might have no real stock of food at home at all as they rely on grocery deliveries or the likes of Deliveroo and Just Eat for many of their meals. I'm sure I read years ago that it only take disruption to two consecutive meals for panic to set in.

There are cheaper things regarding food that you can get, like beans, but you still have to be able to prepare them. Also, if you don't eat beans on a regular basis you may not like it. Although hunger, true hunger, makes you act differently. A lot to think about but you do need to act.
I've been Prepping since the late 70's and I have a team that will be here on the farm when SHTF, so I am better off than most people will be. Yes, I do have holes in my Preps. You can not prepare for every scenario that may occur. Keep Prepping my friends.

@@andrewcarlson2178 Listen to yourself, you've a problem with people being Rambo because most people can't be Rambo. Bugging out is a great idea because most preppers can't survive out in the wilderness whether it's lack of experience or terrible packing. I practice being homeless with my bug out bag for about a month and I had to complete change it. Had to remove a large portion of my preps while bringing in core essentials I didn't think I needed. It may seems ridiculous on the streets, but it is much closer to the actual experience versus only training at your house.

I think a lot of you underestimate this. 8 hours and no power people are gonna lose their minds.

@@davewinch7677My mother would be happy. She's been wanting the network to fail for over a decade. She and I have a shared animosity toward people spending every waking hour staring at mobile devices.
If you can have a 1-month supply of water/food/meds you'll be WAY ahead of most people should a disastrous event occur. Even better would be to have a 3-month supply.
That and a community/network of like-minded people, equally prepared, that live within a day's walk of where you live. Loners will be picked off, whereas a community of say 30+ will be less likely to be invaded/raided by those desperate for supplies.

I work in a meat dept in Nova Scotia. If the trucks stop we will be out of food in about 5 days. There is a two day window Sunday and Monday that we get no trucks and by Monday night we are starting to get low.

It would take less than 72 hours for all the stores to be empty even if there weren't a run on them and mass looting before then. Remember if the power goes out, so does your supply of water. Secure a place to get it and secure a way to purify it. Im betting up to 25% of the country would be dead inside a month from dehydration, or sickness due to contaminated water.
Secure a backhoe and make friends with a plumber if you want what water is left in underground pipes

We were hit pretty hard in Nova Scotia Canada by Huricane Fiona a couple of years ago. A couple of days, and there were fist fights at the gas station, all the chainsaw supplies were gone, and the grocery stores were pretty bare. That was nothing compared to what will come!

2 months of food, 3 weeks of water(and filtration/purification equipment), 50 acres of forests and farmland, rifles and ammo, armor, and contingency plans. And I'm STILL not ready. Gotta try and get that bunker finished before SHTF.

@@bobmarquardt393 Farraday cages/bags for electronics I want, generators 6ft underground, all wiring and circuitry covered, replacement parts in triplicate, not really sure what else I could do to prepare for EMP or Carrington Event level stuff. More seeds and a greater variety of livestock perhaps... No, a community. That's what I'm missing. 8 people to defend 50 acres of land? Impossible. Damn.

@@Arkancideit's good to be prepared but paranoia will waste time and resources. There are plenty of videos on UA-cam about EMP. For example, I watched one where they had a small container that they used to create an emp. They freed a cell phone and a laptop. The laptop didn't come back from it, the cell phone shut down but rebooted just fine. Solar panels and all the wiring is just fine. You have to have circuitry it doesn't damage regular wiring and it doesn't damage anything low voltage
I work in a meat department and currently our orders are down about 30%. Just cant get product in. I was raised in a ranching family and still have alot of connections. People im talking to are saying the powers that be are locking down the transportation of beef. Saying bird flu is back and it jumped to beef. But no one ive talked to has had or knows anyone that has had any animals come down with it.
Sad how many people take this so lightly. First to go.

I'm part of a community preparedness committee. We've agreed to discuss future scheduling of a meeting to review potential topics of discussion at subsequent meetings. Once we've narrowed those topics, we plan to seek stakeholder input, and then, after review of that input, we'll incorporate the findings into a study session to determine potential need for further review and discussion. We're making incredible progress toward our tentatively identified goals! 🤔
In the meantime, nobody's coming to help you. It's up to you!

@jakeaurod As a former federal employee (DHS & DoS), I have first-hand experience with the mechanisms of government. The grinding gears of that behemoth move with much friction at glacial speed, and it consumes drastically more than it produces in beneficial output.
@jakeaurod Lighten up Jake. My original post was made tongue in cheek. Yes, perhaps it was a weak attempt to provide a bit of humor. But there are plenty of dark and sometimes seemingly insurmountable clouds on the horizon. It's OK to laugh occasionally to forestall the coming tears. Try it!
Btw, there is an abundance of information available to anyone with the desire and motivation to conduct a bit of research. The concepts are fairly rudimentary, and it's very simple to start down the road to self-preservation and temporary, or even sustained, self-sufficiency. One just needs to take that first step. I'm many, many, many steps into this journey, and I continue to learn from others, as well as to share with others. But in the end... it's up to you!
I’ve been in the trucking industry for almost 10 years and deal with large fleets to small fleets and I can tell you right now. What’s coming? Could be very scary. I’ve been reading a lot of comments lately and been told I’m wrong constantly..
It appears I wasted my time and 10’s of thousands of dollars prepping.. 1. God is going to provide me with everything I need and security. 2. My community is going to rise automatically into a cohesive unit, gather around the campfire singing kumbaya and working together. Although the vast majority by far will have no basic needs like drinkable water or ways to make it safe to drink and no more than maybe a weeks worth of food in their house there will be plenty to go around.. I must have been hallucinating years ago when a 1 mile wide tornado stayed on the ground for almost an hour and we didn’t have power for over a month. Because even tho the grocery store had a natural gas generator and remained open and fuel was only 20 miles away in a town that has train engine powered generators to supply power to the town people still went nuts.. obviously I must have made it worse then it actually was by what I read and hear.. lol. The bad thing is I sold off most of my wheel, lever and bolt guns to purchase semi auto firearms and ammo because apparently I was foolish enough to think I would need security and defend my family and myself. Not to mention the amount of time I wasted training with them.. lol
On a side note.. Over 2 decades trucking with most of it over the road I can’t count how many times drivers talked about shutting their trucks down for just a couple days.. Just an educated guess from someone that has millions of miles behind the wheel of big trucks. The only way they are going to shut down is if there is literal chaos and civil unrest nationwide and they themselves become targets and start getting drug out of trucks, beaten or worse to steal their cargo.. When that starts to become a thing 18 wheels will be home bound directly to protect their families, their belongings and themselves..

In a real SHTF, any food storage facility will most likely be guarded by local PD (assuming the cars are working), and the stores will be emptied the first day!

Most people don't even realize just how strained our supply train currently is. Retailers are struggling to get inventory to fill their shelves, pharmacies are going out of business, even bank branches are closing down.
@@jakeaurod All of it. The entire spectrum of the supply chain is having difficulty getting enough employees to produce like they did, pre Covid shutdowns...farms, processing, manufacturing, trucking, all of it.
The pharmacy issues are, mostly due to the fact that most medications in the US are either made in China, or made from chemicals purchased from Chinese companies. China is still having rolling Covid shutdowns, sometimes shutting down entire provinces, so nothing gets made there.
The banks, I'd guess that many people switching to online banking decreases the need for so many branches in each individual community.
My wife got into caning the last few years. We can all kinds of beef and chicken. Stew and chili, lots of vegetables. Other foods good to stock up on are things that only require water to make like biscuit mix, pancake mix, packaged mash potato mix. You can buy the freeze dried full meals or MREs also but they're very pricey.
The most important thing we can prep for now is our own minds. Who are you willing to kill? Marauders? Military personnel? Your starving neighbours?
How good are your target acquisition tactics? Can you determine friend from foe at a distance? What distance? How will you decide who to engage? When will you engage?
Prepare to protect your family and your self from enemies both foriegn and domestic......

I work maintenance for a major grocery store brand in the hvacr department and they get trucks at least three times a week to stay properly stocked
And when the trucks stop delivering the store will be empty in three days.🤦♀️
I grew up poor poor going days at a time without food so my sisters could eat. I never have less than 2 weeks of dry store not counting frozen meat
Order of preps:
1. COMMUNITY, hands down.
2. Skills
3. Sustainable food and water, and
4. The ability to protect your community and food.

Another observation to consider is that lots of people will go to rural areas and kill all the big game. We live in Texas and landowners sometimes chase the money and let guys overhunt the land. The deer are nearly extinct for a few years when that happens. Poachers would be a serious problem

So many layers to consider with all of this. I appreciate the calm presentation. Our society has been getting pressure tested, but we don’t seem to be collectively acting on the data being provided. A lot of our support systems are pretty fragile and vulnerable.
I think at least part of the answer is for people to begin building skills and community. Personally, I have friends on both ends of the political spectrum and simply want to see my neighbors get through the next big shakeup ok. I think getting back to some basics would go a very long way. Things like neighbors helping each other with getting firewood put aside, families growing at least some of their own food, skill and tool share arrangements, etc…
Grow your own veggies/fruits. Vollect rain water or have a water key and boil/treat water to be drinkable, have chickens for eggs if you're not in a city limit and have plenty of canned/dried foods as an emergency rations situation.
