Honestly, I think we look at how powerful Minotaur's weapon is and end up forgetting just how durable Minotaur is. Those hits from Cobalt would have decimated almost any other robot in the field, but Minotaur tanked them without showing really any loss of function.
I feel that Minotaur's only real weakness is their constructor. Whoever is picking their batteries seems to be dropping the ball pretty hard. Any time Minotaur has to work for a win, the bot always seems to torch their batteries.
@@SableDrakon It seems to be more of a problem that Minotaur clearly draws a lot of power, and whenever it does, the batteries heat up a ton(lipos tend to do so.) Now, the lipos are really heat-ineffective. AKA, whenever you draw power from lipos they tend to heat up a TON. Now, here's the problem: Minotaur is so compact, so well armoured, that the problem is they can't dissipate heat from their lipos well enough. It's not easy to test how much torque and power you are pulling maximum and how long your batteries can last, especially as they are expensive. These bots already run SUPER hot, so doesn't take much to make them overheat.
@JustinWilliams-ed2ug That smoke was probably just one of the battery cells being damaged. There shouldn't be much else on Minotaur that can just start smoking like that. A single malfunctioning battery cell shouldn't put Minotaur in any immediate danger of being knocked out
I knew minotaur would have to be good driving wise but confess I didn't think Daniel fraytos was gonna do it... 😅👍 What a drive and what a fight. Two of the favourites for the nut this year
@@LewisHamiltonMSPR Dave and Sam are great drivers but the motor wasn’t able to self right them in the end. Under normal conditions it should have enough torque to get them back after a flip. I saw a comment on the sub that said that some of the brushes were getting stuck in the housing leading to reduced weapon motor power (50% for half of the fight). I’m really glad that Cobalt is still able to compete thanks to John Mladenik/RDC but I don’t think they did the same sort of maintenance that the original Team Carbide would have done in the off season
Minotaur is at the epicenter of so many classic fights, always fantastically driven and an unkillable brick. Blacksmith in 2016, Tombstone in 2018, Cobalt in 2019, End Game in 2021 and Cobalt again in 2022. If this is Riobotz's year to finally take a Giant Nut back to Brazil I won't be surprised, Marco and Daniel have earned it in spades.
It speaks volumes of how amazing the competition in this sport has progressed. 7 years ago Minotaur would be a giant nut shoo-in, but there is so many champion level teams it's a classic fight in every Minotaur fight
@Justin Williams Minotaur's biggest flaws are its puny reach and lack of stability once its drum goes full speed, something Cobalt clearly tried to exploit.
@Justin WilliamsEndgame's design is not "inferior" to Bite Force's by much. I don't see how Bite Force can actually beat modern-day Endgame, considering Endgame has a more powerful weapon, lower ground clearance, and is faster. The reason why Endgame's record (beginning at its championship season) is only a bit worse than Bite Force's is that the competition has simply increased to an absurd degree. However, I do think that, given a chance to use more modern electronics and design techniques, Bite Force will at least be as good as Endgame.
@Justin Williams You can't just look at the old records. The sport evolves. If you see every fight, you will notice that current-day bots are better on average in terms of basically everything. Take a look at Biohazard. It was the undisputed king of Battlebots during its prime (arguably as dominant as Biteforce). It then went into retirement. Then, like 2 years later, it came out again to fight and was promptly destroyed by Megabyte. Essentially, a LOT can change within 2 or so years of retirement. In the last 2 seasons, Endgame has lost its weapon only once, and that was only because a piece of the other robot jammed its weapon. Also, saying the old Endgame design is anywhere near the current one is a terrible take. Since then, they have massively upgraded the forks, drive, weapon reliability, and self-righter. In addition to this, the claim that Endgame struggles to turn is something I've never heard before. Turning has never really been an issue for it in recent seasons, and I cannot recall a time when it was. The reason why Endgame got so good in recent years is that it borrowed so many of the good qualities from Biteforce. I don't see how Biteforce can beat what is essentially an upgraded version of itself.
@Justin Williams I highly doubt Bite Force would do as good in this current day. It seems to be a lot more even now. Also, End Game used to be more narrow, so it couldn’t turn as well. It can turn pretty well now since it’s much wider.
This was such a good fight. I honestly thought Cobalt would win this and then Minotaur suddenly turned the tides in the last few moments. This is easily one of the best fights in Battlebots history
Team Carbide did make the bull bleed and came so close to beating them, I was rooting for Cobalt to win but nonetheless this was an epic rematch against Minotaur. Fights like this is what I love about the sport.
the maneuver that daniel does at 0:54 when cobalt gets caught up on the floor is actually impressive like he advances slowly at first but then strikes at the best opportunity
THIS is what BattleBots is all about. Two powerful almost indestructible robots with very good drivers giving their all and delivering hit after hit. Minotaur's strategy was to attack the forks, and have their weapon very sharp so it would dig in. And once it dispatched the forks, then the tables were turned and the fight went in the favor of Minotaur. My hat goes off to both teams for such a great fight. It could have gone either way, and to be honest, to see the potential loser suddenly rise up and win was awesome.
Love the prefight interview with team Minotaur captain "Cobalt's probably going to try to get underneath us with his forks, but we have Daniel... and Daniel is violent."

Minotaur's resilience is probably its greatest strength. It seems small and unimpressive at first but you really have to work to hurt it. Flipping it barely fazes it, it can right itself effortlessly, and its guarded wheels and compact design means its hard for bots to take chunks out of it. meanwhile the drum spinner grinds down defenses every time the little demon comes back for more.

Also saw some close up pics earlier of their weapon after the fight and it's going to need a lot of time with a grinder to get it back in proper shape and balance with the chunks out of it.

This isn't fight of the week, this isn't even fight of the year, this up there for best fight in the history of Battlebots. This fight was so amazingly entertaining but more than that it showed everything you want out of a fight and had so much nuance in terms of driving and pre match strategizing. In terms of pre-match strategy, Cobalt realizing that it had to get its fork geometry right to feed Minotaur into the weapon was an excellent example of good planning. They had the angle width and flexibility pretty much just right. Even the weapon they picked, I Beleive they picked knowing that many of their hits would be weapon on weapon where they wouldn't want to bounce Minotaur away as the other one might have before a hit on a spinning weapon. In terms of driving though, that's where this match is truly a masterclass. From the moment that bell rang everyone knew what each sides plan was to win, and the execution had to be so perfect from the Minotaur side given how perfect a counter Cobalt was setup to be that you were on the edge of your seat the whole time knowing that if Daniel made just one critical driving mistake the soft top or bottom of Minotaur would be opened up and its insides splayed about. So then the stage was set and we had to see if Daniel could drive, and drive he did. Even without getting to the key moments of the fight some of the strategies and decisions made by the Minotaur team were so critical yet subtle to those unfamiliar that they really deserve being pointed out. Something many don't realize is that tip speed has a lot to do with who wins a weapon on weapon engagement when spinning the same way. Usually Minotaur meters their weapon speed to get more bite (slower means there is more room to move in closer before each hit) and to Have a better ability to drive without Gyroing about. In this case though they knew what they had to do to win. Quite simply they had to rip off all of the forks of Cobalt, without getting destroyed then knock them out as the process of removing the forks would likely not leave them with enough points to win otherwise. So then, back to the weapon speed, what did they do? They kept it cranked up the majority of the match because they knew they couldn't maneuver around Cobalt and they knew that when it came to weapon to weapon hits, their best bet was to keep the rpm and tip speed as high as possible to minimize damage. Yes Minotaur is tough, but without this I doubt even they could survive that many Cobalt pops without using this top class strategy. Knwoing that they weren't going to be able to out maneuver Cobalt meant they had Ro always strike at the right angle to make sure only their weapon ever made contact with Cobalt's weapon and boy did they succeed. Each strike was at speed so that their belly didn't land into Covalts weapon and they specifically only attacked when the weapon was up to speed. More than that, you can see the subtle turns that Minotaur made to try to make each hit slightly diagonal to give them a better chance at ripping off the forks. Viewers who aren't aware might have missed it but it was fantastic strategy as there is basically no other way they could have taken off forks so clearly designed for them. The Driving amazement doesn't stop their. Daniels control over the gyro behaviour of the bot is so amazing that there were multiple points in this fight where he used it to expert effect. The most amazing occurrence however was brilliant entertainment. This is where Minotaur was inverted, started to initiate the self right but realized they wouldnt have enough time to reset afterwards as Cobalt was coming right for them. What did they do? They aborted the gyro self right mid rotation to gain distance! What an astoundingly pro maneuver. Next, even as they began to start smoking; surely a result of either the multiple pops of Cobalt or the constantly max speed weapon motors or controllers overheating, they knew that this fight could only be won if they soldiered on regardless of the damage, weapon running at full steam with limited time before complete weapon failure. Still they kept their nerves about them and managed to persevere, ripping the final fork off of Cobalt and beginning their end game in the final minute of the fight. If it wasn't clear before what their strategy was, it was clear now. Within an instant of removing the last fork, Minotaur overturned Cobalt, where the decision to use their smaller weapon for better weapon on weapon engagement came back to bite them somewhat as they had a very difficult time self righting. Even still, they managed. They key thing to note though, is that instead of continuing to attack Minotaur backed off. They knew they had to win by knock out and didn't have much time left. Lucjiky for them the second hit wasn't so easy to self right from and that sealed it with just 20 seconds left to go. This match was phenomenal. Both teams operating at top capacity and preparing the perfect strategies for each other. On paper Minotaur despite its great reputation had a physical disadvantage in the geometry of its bot vs Cobalts forks, and the managed to claw out a victory with an extremely gutsy strategy that with almost any mistakes in driving would have lead to a loss. Excellent match, Easily match of the year and its good that matches like these are hitting UA-cam.
Going by the volume of white smoke pouring from Minotaur, that looks more like the batteries going up than a motor or speed controller to me. Really good review of the fight there though.
This is one of the best fights in the history of Battlebots for sure. I think the best is Rotator vs Valkyrie though, but this is also one of the all time classics :)
@@233Deadman You are indeed right. From social media posts from, I believe , the Cobalt team, they said Minotaur told them that it was an overheated battery from running the weapons so hard for so long.
Absolutely titanic battle and the true definition of a 50|50 fight with beautiful sportsmanship at the end. You could honestly have an entire show of Minotaur vs Cobalt in constant rematches and it would be worth watching.
Wow, what a fight! One of the best recently on this channel, it's so good when both bots are well-matched against each other. Both teams should be proud, they did great.
It’s moments like this that make me remember how good it feels to have an opponent who is kind and respectful towards you when they lose. I feel that most time’s anger and resentment boil over.

Man this fight was won off the amazing driving of Minotaur, a solid hit from Cobalt into the sides of Minotaur could have bean disastrous for them but Daniel Freitas managed to keep the weapon pointed at Cobalt for all the big hits. Amazing driving and a well deserved win. But it was also an excellent fight from Cobalt too, they stayed aggressive and controlled most of the match, their driving was also very good with many excellent attempts to hit Minotaur from the sides it was just unfortunate that they didn't quite have the speed to counter Daniel's driving, but it was VERY close on many of the attempts.
Minotaur ó não levou golpe por trás! As laterais foram reprojetadas depois das lutas contra Lápide e Biteforce! Não tem como negar, quando eles entra na arena. a festa começa!
The drum-spinners always made the most sense to me as a weapon; able to grind, lift, and flip without any loss of control. And Minotaur consistently drives so aggressively, they're never boring to watch. That was an epic level match.
I really love the incredible displays of sportsmanship in this sport! The way that most teams are excited to celebrate each others' wins is really encouraging. 😊
This is one of those cool fights where we get to see the competative side of BattleBots. I love BB for the joy of watching two bots tear eachother apart but sometimes the competition of seeing who actually wins is fun. This is one of those times.
This is easily the best fight of the season and one of the best fights in the history of the sport. Such a legendary comeback by Minotaur. To me both are winners here because they put on one of the best shows we have ever seen in the battlebox. Also kinda ironic cobalts 2 best fights were both against Minotaur as well
For how simple the weapon is on Minotaur, the driving and strategizing on part of the driver is top notch and makes the matches interesting. Cobalt had a good chance too and could've gone either way. Great performance on both teams.
I was there live for this fight. You wouldn’t know it from the video because they always edit the crowd noise, but everyone went BALLISTIC when Minotaur finally flipped Cobalt after taking that fork off.
There’s a video of the crowds reaction. What a legendary fight. My fav fight of all time too. The sawblaze fight almost beat it but it’s 2nd because I was sad to see my boy come that close to beating sawblaze.
@@ryanbates3319 the sawblaze fight did beat this for me. I wasn’t there for that one but I’m Sawblaze’s number one fan. You remember the SawBlaze is BestBlaze sign? That’s me.
@Moakmeister that’s awesome! Ironically the reason the sawblaze fight is your favorite is the opposite of why it’s my 2nd fav. Because I’m a big Minotaur fan and it was frustrating to see my boy that close to pulling off another comeback and then die before doing so. Both fights were some of the best I’ve ever seen.
Wow. Epic is right. That was ridiculous. I am just finding (or re-finding, not sure which) these bot-fight videos and they are making me feel like a kid again. I am just giddy with excitement. This is WILD.
this was like watching a wrestling match. minotaur getting close lined and drop kicked in the beginning, then both of them throwing punches hard enough to knock each other back. But minotaur gets that sweet sweet special attack landed for the win.
IMO, this was the best fight of World Championship 7 so far. I want to see Minotaur get the Giant Nut this year. I still think they were cheated out last year when they instantly stopped that fight once witch doctor got stuck.
According to the rulebook back then the fight could be stopped only after 20 seconds but it was stopped in just 10 seconds from when witch doctor was stuck so a Clea violation of that and so many rules
Unfortunately they lost to sawblaze, so close to possibly finishing them off. But that fight was also insane. At least Minotaur went out putting up a fight. Maybe next year might be his year
Other Battlebots combatants need to replicate the durability of Minotaur if they hope to stay relevant in the future. Minotaur almost looks like a solid chunk of hardened steel!
Such a crazy and amazing battle. Definitely a Top 10 of all time. Intense how quickly the tables turned when the last fork was removed. Forks are such an effective appendage. But it's nice to see when they're effectively countered. Had the feel of a World Championship final match. Minotaur blowing steam was so fitting seeing how it is a bull.
This really is pretty much just a win-win situation for both teams, because even though Cobalt lost this fight that barely even matters since the fighting prowess and damage capability they showed this fight alone is pretty much guaranteed to be a boon for their later seed ranking.

From social media posts from, I believe , the Cobalt team, they said Minotaur told them that it was an overheated battery from running the weapons so hard for so long.
well my reply didn’t age too well, because the more I watched this fight again and again, this became my new fav fight ever
Absolutely titanic battle and the true definition of a 50|50 fight with beautiful sportsmanship at the end. You could honestly have an entire show of Minotaur vs Cobalt in constant rematches and it would be worth watching.
These two fought twice now and both have been bangers.
I think this one was better than their fight in 2019. Both are amazing
Wow, what a fight! One of the best recently on this channel, it's so good when both bots are well-matched against each other. Both teams should be proud, they did great.
Minoatur always has the most classically techincal fights. Just amazing!
It’s moments like this that make me remember how good it feels to have an opponent who is kind and respectful towards you when they lose. I feel that most time’s anger and resentment boil over.
Can't believe how exciting this sport is becoming.
This was one of the better fights of Minotaur, what a fight
Honestly I'm just happy we're born in this time period so we can watch all these amazing battles
I’ve never seen Minotaur look as impressive at this season, them and Sawblaze are my favourites to take the Giant Nut right now
What a comeback for Minotaur. Awesome fight. Minotaur is my fav battlebot.❤
Ironic that Cobalts best fights were both against Minotaur. What a fight that was!
I love this fight so much! Chris said it best: "championship intensity"
So, so good!
Such a great fight. The back and forth was cool to see and the celebration at the end proved that both teams, once again, proved their mettle.
love morrowind, hugs from br
Best fight of the season so far!!!! I was on the edge of my seat the entire fight first time I watched it. Beautiful driving from both teams.
That manoeuvre at 2:46 by Minotaur was so satisfying!
Minotaur this season is an absolute beast! Might be his time to go in final
I really hope these 2 fight each other again in the World Championship because this is the best fight so far this season.
This is up there with Valkyrie v Rotator as one of the best fights we have ever seen on battlebots
Man this is SO much better than Valkerie v Rotator
@@BigFatWedge Depends which Valkyrue vs RotatoR were talking about here
Such a tense fight! Well done, Minotaur 😈
Guao !! mi robot Favorito casi iva perdiendo apoteosica batalla,,,
pense que Minotauro iva a perder este Combate pero Gano por Nokout,, esta pelea me Recuerda a ROCKY III
Gracias BattleBots me alegraste el dia !!!
Must be a Top Three fight of all time!
‼‼‼‼‼‼‼‼‼‼
Amazing fight, but very hard to watch as a massive Cobalt fan, so close!
As a massive Monotaur fan, I have a new favourite bot :D. Major props to Cobalt for dominating Minotaur!
cobalt owned that fight but not for the misfortunes of battle....
@@ryanbarker5217 You mean the misFORKtunes of battle.
Same :/
@@KUTProductions PFFT
this was amazing, probably the most professional episode i'v ever seen, their skills were amazing
Minotaur is unstoppable! Go!!! I really love it!
literally the best back and forth match of the modern era.
I personally think THE best is Rotator vs Valkyrie but this is definitely one of the best fights in Battlebots history for sure
@@ryanbates3319 Im a huge Minotaur fan, but i'd have to agree. That Rotator Valkyrie fight was nuts
Best fight of the season! Thanks for uploading!
YO! That was like an Anime fight! COBALT absolutely wrecked MINOTAUR in the first half but then MINOTAUR made an amazing comeback!🤖🕹🤖
👏👏👏
Simplesmente sensacional, isso aqui e bom demais, ainda mais com uma equipe brasileira de qualidade nos representando 🇧🇷
Also kinda ironic cobalts 2 best fights were both against Minotaur as well
When he's @ the controls, Daniel Freitas is fueled by BLOODLUST!!!
For how simple the weapon is on Minotaur, the driving and strategizing on part of the driver is top notch and makes the matches interesting. Cobalt had a good chance too and could've gone either way. Great performance on both teams.
Battle Bots make me smile.
Now that's a legendary fight. I think this is the first time I've seen Minotaur fight this hard.
@@ryanbates3319wait, there’s a video? Where?
Incredible battle. Those green forks on Cobalt is what prevented Minotaur to advance in attack. Excellent strategy from both sides.
One of the best fights I've seen in years!
Best fight so far
Most epic battlebot fight I've seen till today 👌
Wow. Epic is right. That was ridiculous.
I am just finding (or re-finding, not sure which) these bot-fight videos and they are making me feel like a kid again. I am just giddy with excitement. This is WILD.
I love watching the Minotaur driver. He has the perfect gamer lean forward total concentration stance.
this was like watching a wrestling match. minotaur getting close lined and drop kicked in the beginning, then both of them throwing punches hard enough to knock each other back. But minotaur gets that sweet sweet special attack landed for the win.
this is why i keep coming back to battlebots
Wow! Well done Minotaur, that was a tough one ☺
I'm late but wow, this fight is totally worthy of being a Grand Final quality level!
Cobalt’s dangerous, but Minotaur’s on another level
Thank you for the video.
Minotaur never boring 🔥🔥🔥 greeting from Indonesia 🇮🇩
This was the best battle I’ve seen.
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
IMO, this was the best fight of World Championship 7 so far.
I want to see Minotaur get the Giant Nut this year. I still think they were cheated out last year when they instantly stopped that fight once witch doctor got stuck.
According to the rulebook back then the fight could be stopped only after 20 seconds but it was stopped in just 10 seconds from when witch doctor was stuck so a Clea violation of that and so many rules
Unfortunately they lost to sawblaze, so close to possibly finishing them off. But that fight was also insane. At least Minotaur went out putting up a fight. Maybe next year might be his year
I love how the durability of Minotaur has improved over the years. It's so tough and it just keeps coming. \m/
Finally - a decent fight with pretty good driving.
If you call this "decent" with "pretty good" driving, literally nothing will be truly good to you lol
Epic. Congrats to the driver of Minotaur!
This was an instant classic! Could've been the final haha
That Was A Really Good Comeback From Minotaur!
I think this was the best fight I've ever seen.
Wow. I am now hooked on this sport.
The best fight of the season so far.
Wow. What a fight. I thought cobalt had him up until that last hit. Good win minotaur.
Minotaur's controll is amazing. Looks like it can even regain controll of itself in the air
To be a caster for this game is an everyday win for me.
Great driving from Minotaur, great fight
WOW Very exciting last second win for Minotaur.
Best fight of the year so far in my opinion.
The best combat!!!
Always happy to see minotaur won a fight👏
This really is pretty much just a win-win situation for both teams, because even though Cobalt lost this fight that barely even matters since the fighting prowess and damage capability they showed this fight alone is pretty much guaranteed to be a boon for their later seed ranking.
My favorite part is how Minotaur's comeback only starts when it begins smoking. As if the internal hardware suddenly went super saiyan
Que virada emocionante, minotauro ganhou no finalzinho, vazando bateria. Foi um nocaute milagroso, tava levando um cacete. finalmente um robo a altura
ZAM! THAT MATCH WAS PEAK MY BROSKIES!!!!! Ari says hello btw
