The Blackmagic Design Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro is the choice for Cinematographers. A lot of incredible cameras have released over the past few years, with more options than ever from online filmmakers. The Sony A7SIII, The Sony FX3, Sony FX6 and Canon C70 to name a few of the prominent releases, however all of them suffer from being far too consumer focused. The Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro is the camera for DoP's because it is so featureless. Cinematography is about consideration, and a lot of the creativity comes from manually controlling the camera.

Would you mind providing us with a bit of a color grading tutorial, you are very easier to learn from. Most tutorials tend to give a walk through, but I would love to have one that went deeper into why to do certain things. Crossing my fingers!

Well the Nikon is a DSLR not a 'cinema' camera, as well as the original pocket cinema from black magic was a fair bit smaller. It is small for a cinema camera, However yes the marketing term as being pocket sized is a bit of a stretch.

I use to work in productions throughout Australia and the Blackmagic Pocket 6k was my most use Camera out of all the equipment I used. I don't mind the body to much, I am use to larger cinema cameras or Tri-Pods but it does get awkward at times.

Exactly what i have discovered. I just used it as an A cam in a documentary summiting mountains in Alaska and talkeetna glacier. Still amazing dynamic range, my B shooter had an a7s3 and i looked at its monitor and it was so dim i thought it was off. This camera is sharper than the ursa yes solely because of pixels, but now it can have pl mount and that is where my cooke speed panchros will live. It will be a huge contender even with my G2 except for the better slow motion and DR.

Just one note. Please do not take manufacturers claim of DR at face value.
Always use 3rd party websites or videos to confirm what the actual DR is.
Ik the Alexa is 14 stops and the pocket cameras (p4k, p6k, p6kp) are all between 11.5-12 stops
The worst offender in this case is red and canon. They often claim DR of 3 of more stops than their cameras can record.
IBIS *can* be very handy sometimes tho. More for photography than film making maybe but still a great feature

A lot of people here are for Mumbo Jumbo but it's nice to know Mumbo's other skills is cinematography which just happens to be one of my interests. I definitely won't be able to afford a cinema camera even it is "affordable" for its category but for now, I'm going to stick to my good old DSLR. I have been trying to learn color grading in Davinci Resolve so it would be great if you were to make a video about color grading
I keeping bouncing back and forth between the 6k Pro and the Fx6 but can't seem to justify the extra costs to ergonomics benefits that the Sony counterpart has..Everytime I watch this video I swing RIGHT back to team Blackmagic. Really love how you structure these points and everything does really make sense!

You mentioned that you tend to expose to the right a bit. Can you expand on that? Also do you stick with the native iso's?

Vespid primes are perfect enough for feature film projects or own choice
I really prefer this soft look.......than the highly sharp look often accompanied by dslrs.
Not sure I would call it soft exactly. It has nice highlight roll-off and good dynamic range. I suspect some shots in this video had a pro mist.

I’m sure these are great, I loved everything I’ve seen, but I prefer a larger format, I use the FS700R, a true Cinealta beast.

We used 1/8 for everything apart from the drumming segments, which was 1/4. We shot on the DZO Vespid primes :)

The reason I sold my canon 90D and bought the 6K Pro, was because I didn't care about stills or autofocus.. I have a perfectly good Samsung phone for those. I wanted to shoot commercials that looked like something an average user could never ever do, a few year ago. I have 12 commercials already lined up over the summer - many are being done from free, so I can learn on the job. I've even ditched my gimbal in favour of a more hand-held organic look. It's also dramatically faster to frame your shots, handheld and with the 5" screen. I have a Focus 7 monitor and that for now, isn't even being used - less weight, less fuss, more footage.

Make video with that, get noticed, save up for the next thing. Keep the camera in mint condition, don't baby it, but don't damage it, clean it, keep it fresh. Sell it, use the money to put forward along whatever you make with it. Any money you make, split it 60/40, keep 40 for video funds.
