    Thank you for tagging me in this. We threw out two heads yesterday (iceberg lettuce) due to simply not knowing how to store produce. Every little bit helps.

    Do you eat lots of salad or no? I don't understand why someone would need lettuce to last so long? Is there a difference between storing in an oxo airtight container and glass? I buy 6 romaine hearts and they last us almost two weeks. We eat a lot of produce. Dh takes a salad to work everyday. I eat salad at least once a day. I buy organic fruit and veggies. I do like the wash method with vinegar. Glad not to have to use an expensive fruit and veggie wash. Thanks for all your good information sharing. It's a blessing.

      Hi, I only go to the grocery store once every 3 weeks which helps cut down on unnecessary spending by quick trips. So over the years I have developed what works best for our family being able to eat fresh produce daily with our $135/person grocery budget for mostly organic and being an allergy family. We use a variety of greens not just romaine, but I have found buying the whole ones and not the ones already in the bags gives you double the quality of lettuce. Storing in glass will give you the longest storage, but by following the vinegar wash you will be killing of any listeria and other harmful pathogens on your lettuce.

    Have you tried putting the full pieces of lettuce in a salad spinner? Then allowing to dry more per your instructions?

      Yes I do use a salad spinner and keep the leaves as big as will fit in the spinner.

    Is a metal lid ok for storing lettuce? Also can I store lettuce standing up in a 64 oz glass jar with metal lid?

    I have to buy Boston (Bibb) Lettuce easier for me to digest it! I always wash and dry it and place in jar with paper towel to absorb excess moisture! I’ve been doing it for years.

    I just discovered your content and I'm excited to learn what you have to share! So helpful! Do you have any videos or blog posts about kale? I'm assuming if I do the same process for kale as you suggest for lettuce, it should work out about the same?

    • @TheCrossLegacy
      @TheCrossLegacy  Рік тому

      It's the same process, check out also the spinach videos because I will move kale into the freezer like spinach

    I used leaf lettuce. By the time it dried I thought it was a little limp. Will it crisp up?

    • @TheCrossLegacy
      @TheCrossLegacy  4 місяці тому

      It normally perks right back up in the fridge

    Everything else has come out so well, but my lettuce wilted while it was drying. What should I do?

    • @TheCrossLegacy
      @TheCrossLegacy  Рік тому +2

      Put it in the fridge and you will be surprised it will perk back up

      Cabbage I normally leave whole until I am going to use it and then wash with salt water.

      In the summer time it can dry quicker, keep an eye on it. Often times it will perk back up after in the fridge also.
