The only thing I can say is absolutely superb Al as usual. Incredible model equipment. I too have these as well, but it’s not a set it just stuff that I collected over the years. I have both black as well as red transformer cars the 2460 is one of my favorite freight cars of the postwar era.

Glad you enjoyed the video! I am finding that I like the early postwar period, and the end of the prewar period, the best. I have the 1946 2020 turbine freight set, but would love to have the 1946 version of the 671 turbine that includes the aluminum dump car and the gray cab 2460 crane.

Ray I have a similar tender! It looks exactly the same on the inside! It was in rough condition when I bought it. I reconditioned it and it works perfectly. I was also told it was a dealer installed item. Madison Hardware was known to do some mods on their older stock. I did read it was a factory item

Thanks for posting and giving more details on the tender. I've only see pictures and some video, but never in detail. I now have my dad's1947 version of the 671, which was his introduction to Lionel trains. Still a great runner for being 77 years old.

The Turbines are great runners and hard to kill. It is always enjoyable to bring a set like this back to life.

Great score on that set and thanks for all the intel. I'm about $500 into the same set, albeit in better condition and with a few original boxes. Finding an original boxed 2671W with back up lights, was my toughest find of the lot. It took years for me to find. I got caught up in a bidding war and was the last man standing with a $240 bill. Ouch! but it is pretty satisfying to now have that elusive tender, in great condition & with its original box. I like to add the 3520 searchlight car to this train. The extra light and the orange generator, adds just the right amount of extra bling to the affair.

I'm glad you liked the video, and that must be awesome to have a nice 2671W backup light tender with a box. I was thrilled to find this set and luckily the tender was the nicest piece to the set.

Marx guy here, well done restorations. To me maintaining the vintage is what it`s all about, keep it up.

Very nice video. I believe that you proved your point. I have tried to find that tender, but have no success. One suggestion: Please lower the volume on the background music. I was unable to hear some of your comments.

Thanks! Glad it presented some useful info. You are the second to mention the music volume, so I will definitely consider that in the next video. So thanks for the constructive feedback on that as I am still kind of new to video editing.

I have a Lionel clock with that catalog cover picture on it. Great looking set! Those 2671W 12 wheel Pennsylvania tenders are sweet, I have one with my 681.

Great video & information on the 2671W tender. The back up lights look great on that tender. Too bad Lionel dropped it so quick. Nice looking set.

The lighted tender is definitely the bell of the ball with that set. The green dump car is special as well along with the generator car with one red side (just goes to show how Lionel was thrifty using up as much old stock as possible).
I recently noticed a 2617WX in my ‘eventually going to repair it’ pile was drilled out for lights so I finally repaired it and installed LEDs although all I had was red at the time. I just got glued them to the holes so if I ever decide to remove them it should pop off easily. It now has me looking for more tender shells that already have holes drilled out (unfortunately I don’t) to add the feature to because I think it looks awesome!
But like a couple others said and I think you got the message, next time turn the music down a few more notches. Otherwise I really enjoyed the video and it is very informative.

Although Lionel discontinued the backup light feature early in 1948, it was sometime in 1949 before they began filling in the holes on the tender shells. So there are plenty of the 2671W tenders with the holes to add your own backup light kit without having to drill.
Glad you enjoyed the video! And yes, I learned my lesson on the music being a little overpowering at times. So maybe I will re-post with the music turned down a few notches.

The backup lights were a good idea, BUT lights on the back of the tender that are on when moving forward do not a backup light make!? 😮 😢

Nice video. I never knew there was such a tender. I think you had enough evidence to convince me or anybody else that you have indeed an authentic back up light tender. If I could give you a little constructive criticism. What you are saying during the video is very interesting. But sometimes the music in the background is too loud and distracting. We can’t hear what you’re saying. I very much enjoyed the video.

Al: another fantastic video. I’ve never seen how the factory originally installed the light bracket and lens strip. Great to know.

Yup, I've had 3 or 4 that have mentioned the same thing. I have taken the constructive criticism moving forward. Maybe I will re-edit this one and repost. Thanks for the input.
