    DESCRIPTION
The story of technology is one of convergence. It is ideas applied; forged from multiple disciplines, all coinciding at the right place and at the right time.
This video is an account of a tiny sliver of that story. Where a novel concept, born out of the explosion of discovery at the turn of the 20th century, would slowly gravitate towards a problem that lied a century away.

@@NewMind on WIkipedia you often have audio or IPA transcription (which can be also read with IPA readers) with proper pronuciation of person's name. Still requires practise and probably many tries but it's a good starting point. :)
No offense, but if I didn't know about Sierpiński's triangle myself I wouldn't be able to tell the man's name based on your pronunciation. Though it's understandable, pronunciation of words in language you don't know is always difficult, just wanted to inform you about that.

Just one of the 1000's of pieces of math science engineering manufacturing and on and on, that makes a mobile device a "supernatural" object that fits in the palm of your hand. Just the GPS system, has atomic clocks in orbit, and uses the theory of relativity to calculate locations.

"Fractal is a word invented by Mandelbrot to bring together under one heading a large class of objects that have [played] … an historical role … in the development of pure mathematics. A great revolution of ideas separates the classical mathematics of the 19th century from the modern mathematics of the 20th. Classical mathematics had its roots in the regular geometric structures of Euclid and the continuously evolving dynamics of Newton. Modern mathematics began with Cantor’s set theory and Peano’s space-filling curve. Historically, the revolution was forced by the discovery of mathematical structures that did not fit the patterns of Euclid and Newton. These new structures were regarded … as “pathological,” .… as a “gallery of monsters,” akin to the cubist paintings and atonal music that were upsetting established standards of taste in the arts at about the same time. The mathematicians who created the monsters regarded them as important in showing that the world of pure mathematics contains a richness of possibilities going far beyond the simple structures that they saw in Nature. Twentieth-century mathematics flowered in the belief that it had transcended completely the limitations imposed by its natural origins.
Now, as Mandelbrot points out, … Nature has played a joke on the mathematicians. The 19th-century mathematicians may not have been lacking in imagination, but Nature was not. The same pathological structures that the mathematicians invented to break loose from 19th-century naturalism turn out to be inherent in familiar objects all around us."

*The fiber optic cable that goes to the control center where the pilots that fly those drones used to go through the woods in the back yard of the house I used to live in. I was digging up bamboo plants when I found it. Verizon handles the hardware. Not sure where the line goes but I suspect the line goes to a local server that goes to the pentagon, but thats not where the pilots are. Looks like they went through quite some trouble to keep it out of the way. We had a natural disaster that washed away part of it and the news reported that it was compromised so I followed it from where the flood was and it led back to the cable I found. It was just like any other cable they would use for fios but in a spot that you would never use to service houses or businesses. Dont ask me where it is, I dont want a knock on my door*
