One of my favorite Famicom games and favorite racing games ever. The music alone makes it worth playing. It's very elaborate and long, suiting the lengthy rally perfectly. It also takes full advantage of the extra sound channel that the Disk System provides.
The challenge is tough, the cars handle extremely well, the gameplay is lenghty, but it is so fun that you don't mind at all.
I feel this game is a must have for the system.
Fun fact: The music was written by Hideki Kanazashi, who also composed the Adventures of Lolo series. However, Soyo Oka (SimCity/Pilotwings fame) did one of the race themes called Monster Dance, though that's not to be confused with the Castlevania song.
I've always though Kanazashi's music sounded similar to David Wise's with the jazzy nature of each, and especially the harmonies.
I actually own the OST that came out for this game back when it was released. It's awesome!

I wouldn't say this one is THAT obscure.
It's a first party title, and Mario and Luigi are technically in it. But more importantly, the Monster made an appearance in "Super Smash Bros.: Melee", so it does have SOME exposure in the west. It's rather strange that it's never had a Virtual Console release in the west, there's barely any Japanese in it and (once again) it's from Nintendo.
At 1:27, I almost thought we were going to be treated with an 8-bit rendition of Billy Joel's "Pressure." That would have been an instant buy.
Yeah, looks great. I'm particularly into the bars of solid color that creep up halfway along the sides of the screen and quiver there. 🤨

I have the black with red accents model. It's one of my favorite consoles in my collection. Unfortunately I recently discovered that some of my disks no longer will load, Doki Doki Panic being one of them. :(

This looks like a really good game; it should've been sold in the states, as I believe it would've done well.
Those racer guys you play as in this game are Mario and Luigi.

Wait, what is this bass that I'm hearing? Are they using samples in the DPCM channel for the bass in this game's music? Or does it use some other kind of extra sound channel? Because seriously, the bass in this game's music could never be done on NES through normal means, it sounds really impressive!!
+Ruko Michiharu The Famicom Disk System had an extra chip inside that could generate a modular sound wave. Another example could be "Arumana no Kiseki," a FDS-only game made by Konami, who also used this kind of enhancement for it's music.
***** By "Modular sound wave" do you mean a "Wavetable/Waveform" sound channel kinda like the DAC channel on the Game Boy (Channel 3 to be exact) or the type of sound that the PC engine soundchip produces? If so that would explain why it sounds so familiar!

I always thought Nintendo's answer to Outrun was Rad Racer which is still a good racing game.

Nintendo, at least put this on the virtual console! You've got your super hard as fuq version of Super Mario Bros. 2, Vs. Excite Bike, and Earthbound Beginnings on the VC. It's time for 3D Hot Rally!

I'm a bit disappointed by the video quality of the Analogue Interactive Nt. For a $600+ clone system using a real Famicom PPU it should look super clear with no interference.
Might be better to use official consoles for these videos, else you never know if the screen glitches are due to the clone hardware.
Is this game pricey? I live in Japan and it's one of the cheapest and easiest to find Disk System games out there. I got an unopened copy for around $10.

The game looks nice but has more flicker than TMNT 3.

This game seems to have remixed music tracks from Nintendo Ice Hockey. Shame it was never released outside of Japan. I really wonder why Nintendo left this one behind?
Soyo Oka composed Ice Hockey and she wrote a song for this game.
I started playing this recently on a modern Retroarch setup and it plays excellently.
Were it not a shameless rip-off of OutRun, I'd say it's as good if not even a bit more advanced than the better console versions of OutRun. The way it is, I still think it, but would find it unfair to /say/ it.
