Rutan definitely deserves more credit in the death metal scene as somebody who is both incredibly knowledgeable and talented, as well as being a great figurehead
met erik after a cannibal corpse show and he was exactly how he was in this video, enthusiastic, very nice, and loves talking about metal and guitar gear, would love to meet him again
Of course! Being a touring musician myself I know that but I feel like the man has paid his dues, I guess just being in a death metal band means you can only progress so far when it comes to what you get paid as a touring musician and what luxuries you can afford or choose to afford.
its the US dude, the metal and rock scene is totally dead there. If he paid for a tech and a driver they'd be losing money on tour. I guarantee you they're barely even breaking even with no techs or driver. My band had to tour in a van even smaller than this where we put sleeping bags on TOP of the gear in the back. When we toured Europe we stayed in hotels and had a driver because we actually made money playing live
I don't think he WANTS a double decker. Those things are expensive to rent (and you don't own it, so always have to keep renting), and REDICULOUSLY expensive to own. He's a smart business man with a DIY approach. Invested in his own studio, and bought his own van. He can now make MOSTLY pure profit from the non-personnel part of touring (except wear and tear and gas). Hell, he even brings LUNCH MEAT to make sandwiches when things get busy. Not ONE mention of going to eat out (cause it's expensive). Smart man, great guy, hard working, multi-faceted...that's how he got to $69 million dollars.
yea i love how he talks about his van & the work they;ve done for it & how they use it, usually its moere of this is what we store in a prebuilt tourbus (ive watched mainly the dtbs of the established bands only seen a few vans so far)
Eric really knows his shit. I can appreciate a person who takes the time to secure the simple things. Especially safety. I think sometimes it gets overlooked. Very informative video. Thanks! Cheers!
LOVE YOU, MY BROTHER!!!!!! In 2018 he drove the sprinter down my driveway and everybody got to spend the night... 25 years of friendship--thanks for everything commander Erik Rutan!!!!❤️🙏🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸😎
Much respect. The man lives his life with purpose. He makes it happen. Some of you may feel bad for him but this DIY approach is only for the strong. Eric is pure death metal strength, my hero on many levels...
You guys are EPIC, Eric. I've followed Hate Eternal since early 2000, a little bit after "Conquering" dropped. I've loved every release since, and followed your studio progress in tandem. It's been an incredible journey. Not only for you and those that you've played with, but also for the bands that you've produced. Bands like Into the Moat. They, along with Hate Eternal, heavily influenced my writing style and tonal choices when it came to crafting my own original ideas. I can't thank you enough, and begin to describe the impact you've had on me as a musician. Just, thank you. \m/
No biggie at all! He's such a great guy! He was pretty excited to film this. We also filmed an episode of "Gear Masters" with him too (coming soon) and he was more excited to show off the van setup. Couldn't ask for a nicer guy!
Erik Rutan is such a nice person. I had the pleasure of interviewing him in person sometime back in 2004 and again in 2007 when he was, incidentally, driving to a venue while on tour in the US. And I just recently 'rediscovered' "Conquering the Throne", which I now consider to be nothing less than a masterpiece of late-90s death metal.
I'm a longhaul truck driver,be at home once a month, the rest I spent it on the roads sleep in the truck bunks haha,I felt these dudes.I wanna try a new job a metal band tour bus driver hahaha
Recorded at Erik's studio Manna back with The absence Enemy unbound record (drums). Super nice guy and made sure we were all comfortable etc. he's a super cool guy. Very good mixer and basically does it all. I remeber him showing us this same Mercedes van back then when it was almost new. Very clever idea. Way cheaper then a bus and more reliable and comfy then a van and trailer.
I can tell that erik is a very business savvy dude. If he wanted to, he could buy a tour bus, and rent it out to banfs and it would pay itself off. When his band tours, he can use said tour bus
The death metal man-cave!!! I like this one a lot! This reminds me of travelling with a small band of brothers and living hard on the road.! Excellent post!!!
DRED ATOR We have an episode of Bus Invaders with Suffocation from a few years back and we'll have an episode of Gear Masters with them released this fall! :)
There is just a lot more character to the van videos, especially this one. Erik also did a lot of awesome diy-customizations to this van that it makes the video so much better!
loved the episode, a real working class metal band; and a very wise band, they don't have to pay to rent a tour bus, and all their gear fits, awesome episode. Have you featured Hirax on your channel?
Digital Tour Bus they are a thrash metal band from the 80s; they are part of the bands that appeared as kind the 2nd wave from around 86- 87, the frontman appeared on the GET THRASHED documentary, they've been playing for years, they seem like a hard working band.
When people fuck around on their phone at a show instead of watching the band, they should be made to watch this. This is fucking rock n roll for the love of it.
This is perhaps the greatest vehicle I have ever seen. I am so jealous and I want one. Can’t go wrong with a sprinter. Those are my favourite vans to drive.
Amazing to see how much hard work they invest in their careers, while you think they are traveling first class at the expense of the record company, they are driving their own van.
Met him in Indy in like 2014/15, Hate was on tour with Deicide. Saw him out front in his van, he literally showed us the entire thing like he did in the video. lol The dude is so fuckin cool and nice
Such a great video Always enjoy your guy's content even if I don't know many bands its always a fun to watch them see their living situations and can tell they love it! so amazing 😁❤
Erik did a great job transferring this van into a touring van with beds. I thought his band would have an actual tour bus, i realize his band isn't huge but he's also a well known producer & has done a great job with Cannibal Corpse's albums.
My best friend, and guitar player, and I met him. He is very nice and humble. Talked for over an hour about anything and everything. Seemed to love to shoot the shit with us. Very nice.
ONE OF THE BEST BUS INVADER... such an amazing band! a great musician and a humble dude! the van is sick!!! (now i want to build some deathmetal stuff too)
I think this was around the time they were both on the same tour. Which I really wanted to go to but they skipped out Toronto. Still don't know how the fux u go to Detroit but skip a major city like Toronto that's only 4 hrs away. Anyways hopefully next time.

im so happy for this dude. did his time in the trenches, worked his ass off and now hes the guitarist in the biggest band in his genre.
Eric is one of the nicest dudes in Metal period! He'll talk to you after the show and have no problem answering any of your questions.
Couldn't agree more!
Can 100% confirm that. Great dude
Good to know. Im a huge fan
Agreed. Had a beer w/ him after a show in San Jose 2 decades ago. Awesome humble metal god
Only if you're white because he's super racist
Rutan definitely deserves more credit in the death metal scene as somebody who is both incredibly knowledgeable and talented, as well as being a great figurehead
Totally agree! He is such a great guy!
Yes, exactly deserves much much more credit.
Von_Nightmare_ Luciferian Not that Impressive?? Link of your own personal band that’s impressive so we can hear what impressive is.
and a welder too 🔥
Looks like he's finally starting to get it!
Him talking about the black ice just makes me think of how Cliff died. Glad Erik is still around after that and kicking ass today \m/
Anyone who's ever done work from a van can relate to this. Eric is a working class hero
🤘
met erik after a cannibal corpse show and he was exactly how he was in this video, enthusiastic, very nice, and loves talking about metal and guitar gear, would love to meet him again
I feel really bad that Eric has to drive so much :( and he has no techs. Like not fair man he deserves a driver and a tech.
Yeah, a lot of factors go into stuff like this. At the end of the tour, he'll have more money left to bring home.
Of course! Being a touring musician myself I know that but I feel like the man has paid his dues, I guess just being in a death metal band means you can only progress so far when it comes to what you get paid as a touring musician and what luxuries you can afford or choose to afford.
@@HKKetoRecipes The guy's gonna have it chill now he's in Cannibal Corpse. Happy for him, he's a good guy.

Totally! Really love this episode!
Not even a bus lol
Wow, if my band ever gets to touring status I will def use a similar setup. Seriously good episode and very informative!
So glad to hear you liked the setup!
I was thinking the exact same while watching!
This band deserves to be in a fucking double decker bus. So goddamn underrated.
Definitely! Touring like this is definitely more sustainable though.

Rutan is one of the best of all time IMO. His technical ability and ability to produce are just on another level.
I honestly dont know how many times ive watched this since 2018.. But whenever i see rutan on youtube i quickly click at watch
I've seen a ton of bus invaders episodes today and this is the best one. Very cool van.
So glad you liked this episode!!
Eric really knows his shit. I can appreciate a person who takes the time to secure the simple things. Especially safety. I think sometimes it gets overlooked. Very informative video. Thanks! Cheers!
Erik really thought everything through.
erik rutan is in his 40's. somebody get this man a bus.
He could tour in a bus, he would just come home with less money at the end of the tour.
True that makes sense. Sucks it has to be that way.
Hate Eternal doesn't tour too often and they play mostly small clubs so financially it makes the most sense to do it this way.
Cost more as he said above
I must confess I've only got to know these bands through these videos and I've become a regular listener of most of them. thanxs and keep it up.
We will as long as people keep watching!
One of the best in the business. 🖤
Erik Rutan is a true national treasure.
