- Well hello there!
I really wanted to take the time to figure out the differences between 3 of the tiniest red rasboras and see which ones I really have!

Best ever illustration of the meaning of "scale": in a 3 gallon bookshelf tank, crypts look like Amazon sword plants.
Wow. When you posted those close up pics, I can now understand the confusion! Great info!
Chris Lukhaup is doing a series on the boraras family right now and I am hooked. His filming and photography is wonderful.
Umm, that tank with the rocks and wood and I guess crypts that look like sword plants? I need to totally rescape my ten gallon now and imitate this! LOL! I love it!!!
Easy to mix them up. Even online sellers get them mixed up. I have a mixed tank because on my last order the seller goofed.
REMEMBER to hit the like button for Joanna. She is the best in her field!
these are so pretty❤️I love your nano tanks💖 I am afraid of shrimp but hoping to overcome that irrational fear😆 yours were just gorgeous and so cute and active
I totally understand. Sometimes I look at them how they move around like 😝 but the neocaridina are so tiny and colorful and cute! ☺️
@@thesmallscape they look great❤️
They are super easy to mix up. After seeing them up close you can the differences. However, just watching them swim it would be harder to tell. Beautiful fish. Gina
Wow!!! Those are cool Rasboras!!!! The tank is Marvelous!!!!
those are beautiful tanks! I have a 7 gallon planted tank, that I'm going to re-do. thanks for the inspiration!
You should throw a Strawberry Rasbora in there. You would never be able to tell the difference. I had all 3, and the Chili was the easiest to distinguish, but at 3 blended in.
Yes!! And an exclamation point one too for that matter!
All the micro Rasbora species are super awesome! An easy way to communicate and not get confused is just use the genus and soecies names as you're right, they all have differing coming names depending on region. I'm a gardener so I'm used to identifying by and using genus and species/ botanical name. The other day I had a client say they were interested in a "Hollywood hedge" plant. I had to ask them to just send me a picture as so many common names refer to totally different plants depending on where you are in the world, but a botanical name is the same everywhere. I will be catching up on your vids as I've missed since the beginning of your fish gallery updates! Yt decided to change my notifications to "personalized" even though I had "all" clicked for this and primetime.✌️
How funny! What is the “Hollywood hedge” plant? Boxwood?
@@thesmallscape the funny thing is, from my research it seems that it can be anything! It's just those tall, thick Beverly Hills/ Hollywood Hills style of long walls of hedges that block the views into the mansions! 🕵️♂️😂🕵️♂️
Love your nano tanks! #nanotankgoals
I have the hardest time telling the maculata and the naevus apart, so I'm not sure which kind I have, except that I received a merah mixed in with them. I've definitely run into the exact same photo being used for 2 different rasboras online. I didn't know merahs were carnivores not omnivores! Great video, Joanna 🙂👍
😊
I’ve known the chilli ( the lil 1 with the single stripe) as also the mosquito rasbora
great video, absolutely gorgeous tanks
Thank you kindly! 😊
Great Presentation! ❤🎉
Thank you! 😊
Hi Joanna :) Thx for sharing the info. I never would have thought one would be a carnivore and another an omnivore. Very interesting!
Isn’t that so interesting?! Hope you are doing alright up there in this cold and snow! 😊❄️🥶
@@thesmallscape Thanks, it’s been a tough couple of weeks. We ended up having to put down Wallace on Saturday. It was so hard. We miss him terribly.
Some family stuff the last few weeks too…I’m sorry I haven’t been in the livestreams. I miss them but just haven’t felt too chatty lately. Hoping to have some better days soon!
Stay warm my friend! 💚
i have Merahs in a 20 long with blue dream shrimps sooo cute!
😊well played! ❤️💙
thank you!@@thesmallscape
Learned so much from this video about these little tiny fish, including the fact that I need Gertrudes in my life! LOL 😍
Haha! Im thinking I need MORE! There’s a particular scape I’m sooooo excited to do just for them 😊
Joanna Watson in action following the practices of Sherlock Holmes in fish identification. Now you have to do an analysis of teeth marks of the Oscar with particular interest to their compatibility with others of their neighbors. Just something Sherlock wrote on teeth marks on pipe stems. Really great information about these 3 fish types of Rasboras. Thank you, Joanna.
Good information. Easy to see why they're so confusing as to which is which. 👍🤔
Yup. Little stinkers 😊
Don’t forget the exclamation point rasboras
Absolutely!
wish there is a place to get them. they dont sell them at my local petsmart and there seems to be none online for sale as well. So frustrating lol
A month late, but I would try Dan's Fish, Aquatic Arts, Get Gills or The Wet Spot. They're all very reputable and the fish are way more likely to thrive than some other sellers. I have bought from Wet Spot, Get Gills and Dan's and have had no issues at all and Aquatic Arts is my next order as they're highly recommended for great quality and they have great invertebrates (my next tank is a crab paludarium 😊). ✌️

Will danios and rasboras of different species shoal and school together?
Sometimes... but not all the time.
I have Celestial Pearl Danios and Chili Rasbora and they tolerate each other and are peaceful but mostly stick to their own in the tank. Still a beautiful tank though, both species are amazing together.
I wonder how much hybridization goes on in the hobby?
I wonder the same!
This is, indeed, a concern. I breed multiple micro-rasboras. Sometimes I've housed them together, temporarily. But when I do that, I don't have any provisions in place for them to spawn... at least not successfully so. And I have seen "courting" behavior in what could be called "mixed marriages". LOL...
How are u young lady?
