I got it on clearance for $7! To "fix" the handle a couple of rolls of "squishy" racket tape, then dip the taped handle into the plasti-dip tool handle rubber dip (the dip, not the spray), for a coat, dry 45 minutes than dip again. After 4 or 5 coats like this, squeeze it like you would grip it to use it, and it will custom conform to your hand a bit. The shock will go WAY down, and it is a CHEAP fix. That is the knarliest wood I have ever seen! That makes Mesquite wood look easy!
New subscriber here? Definitely gonna buy the new model. Can’t go wrong with the price could always use another knife around the Homestead. Great video.
Not up to my standards of carry & "Pakka wood" usually means "cheap wood soaked in dye" in my experience but heck for that price one can't complain too much. It'd make a good starter knife for a kid just getting into the game.
I tried processing eucalyptus once, I think i just gave up and found another piece of wood. Just got the new version of this, seems nice for the price.
This is what I call a hard knife test. Good test actually. This is the kind of thing I would do with my cheap Moras without feeling bad about it. I found the Gerber Strongarm vibrated when I hit it with a baton. I liked the look of that knife. But I didn't like the knife when I was working with it. I sold it again pretty quickly. Of course it didn't break. But something about the handle didn't fit at all when I chopped with the knife.
@@peterbiltknifeguy Gotta get those Father/son moments as they are fun to look back on and someday you will both sit and reflect and it feels great to do....Keep up the good work....
I'll have to give it to the Ozark $20 knife, it took a beating. If it only had a decent plastic sheath. It's good for what it is though. I would not have thought it would hold up to the hammer, but it did.
They have a nicer version of this knife right now that has g10 handles orange liners and a satin finish it would like a kydex style sheath with tech lock it's all fake of course but it looks cool
ha came to tell ya about the new version, looks like some folks already let ya know. thanks for this video, was happy they came out with the new upgrades since i always wanted it but never liked the pakkawood.
Kershaw uses 7cr17mov on a lot of their budget folders. I wouldn't call it crappy steel. Heat treatment and edge geometry matter way more than steel grade.
@peterbiltknifeguy well obviously it doesn't compare to magnacut or s35vn but 7cr17mov isn't bad if it's heat treated correctly. Those Walmart knives are made by some mystery manufacturer in China. Who knows what their skill level is. Kershaw wouldn't put their name on a 7cr17mov blade if it sucked.
@@sambradley5981 yeah I went through like phases when I first got into knives I bought cheap knives and big Bowie's and stuff..then as I slowly got more into them I bought more expensive knives like Spyderco cold steel.. Walmart now has the same blade with micarta scales and a REALLY nice sheath with a tek lock.
All things considered, that knife is surprisingly tough for what it is. Thanks for sharing and Cheers!
It sure was tuff for 20 dollars

Lol. Thanks Scott. Yeah. He’s already tested out his new “competition chopper” and loves it
