Yeah, I usually say that only failed guitarists and Lemmy uses pick with bass but I just tried for fun how´s this on bass and yeah. I can see that most bassists will not get especially the first part before the mandolin solo without specializing on fingerstyle pretty exclusively. It's kinda frantic and I found myself using 4 fingers at some parts of the first half. The other half ("...Punishment due" I'd guess) is much more traditional (as close as you can get to to traditional with Mustaine) and has a lot of that Burton vibe when played with fingers.
Ellefson used a pick on this tune you can hear the iso track lots of palm muting and then playin with a pick. Impressive away but for a more ellefson sound need the pick on this one
Why would anyone blame him for using a pick? Ellefson played this with a pick, not playing it with a pick wont sound correct. I dont understand this weird disgust so many bass players on the internet have for picks. If you cant play both fingerstyle and with a pick, you miss out on such a giant range of sound, and thats what matters. Stop stifling yourselves so you can feel special or superior for not using a pick. (Which is just in your head anyway, because if you cant play with a pick you're objectively less capable than someone who can play both) You're handicapping yourselves guys!
Years ago when i was younger my band played this cover and i know like a bass player that the hardest work is for the bass and if a vocal plays a guitar, on the end of a song all is in sweаt and breathing is hard. Respect, Mariano!
getting really close to nailing this with fingers, tightening up the fretting and muting. this was the end goal 1.5 years ago, and ive been working the past few days on it
it took me quite a while to be able to play this with fingers. the bassline on the guitar solo is extremely fast, often gives me pins and needles. you need really strong fingers and forearms for this, as speed isn't really the biggest factor, its stamina. good luck on your journey!

Megadeth had a rhitm-bass almost all the time, its like a third guitar, so no blame, this style needs a pick.
