After Flamme dies, and even for a 1000 years, Frieren is never shown to ever wear earrings of any kind. But when she joins Himmel's group, she starts to wear Red Teardrop earrings but without the bauble. And she never takes them off even when sleeping. When she is condemned to work in the mines of Norm for 300 years, they apparently confiscate all her personal belongings including the earrings. Whether these earrings have a connection to the story is open, but it is curious.

What's really sad and bittersweet for me is the dream Himmel (80 years ago) and Frieren (80 years into the present) shared. It showed Himmel that Frieren will actually be able to reciprocate his feelings, something impossible Himmel once thought, but only when He is already long gone, 80 years from that point onwards. Frieren never got to "love" Him in the same timeline as he was living in. Hopefully in Aureole, Frieren could confess her feelings, finally in the right time for the both of them.
Remember Voll the dwarf granpa? The one that protected a village as promised to his Human wife? That he himself already forgot her voice and her face? When Himmel met him with frieren, heiter and eisen, you could see the grim revelation to Himmel what a lost love to long lived species could be. I imagine that what cemented Himmel resolve to never admit his love (remember, himmel already falls in love with Frieren in his boyhood. When they met in the forest). And again when Voll ask Frieren did she still remembers Himmel's face and voice, irked Frieren.😢
She never cared for "feelings" - even when it's clear as daylight. But looking back, she's beginning to understand it even going _Above & Beyond_ to preserve those "feelings." Even in Himmler's death (he never got married) she still didn't' "get it." Man...this anime/manga is killing it. The subtle character development is so good, how can you NOT fall in love with her? Easily my Anime of the Year but boy does The Apothecary Diaries come close.
What I dont get is WHY? We met kraft and he was basically a regular human being. If no other elves are like she is.... why is she like that? Whats the point of making her an elf if the fact shes an elf doesnt come into play? Just make her a mage who discovered how to stop her aging.

i believe that what the directors are doing with the anime-original stuff is very deliberate and in collaboration with the mangaka. i say this because of the fact that the first thing Frieren can be seen doing after Himmel's funeral is playing with the ring (something not seen in the manga). If Himmel had given her a bunch of other stuff along their journey, why would that particular ring matter in that moment? I believe it mattered because he gave it to her on the way home, and that it was the last thing he ever bought/gave to her. I really don't think Himmel would've shied away from doing extra monster-hunting quests to help villagers in need, even on the way back home. The only other remaining question is would they have been able to enter such a big looking city without being mobbed and congratulated by citizens for their accomplishment of defeating the Demon King. This can maybe be explained simply by assuming they didn't know yet. As the party hadn't even made it back to the royal capital to celebrate, there's a chance that further away cities in the North and South hadn't received word yet.
No but when I read this scene in the manga, my stupid ass thought “Awww how cute! A platonic friendship ring!” I might be as dense as Frieren, I didn't even catch on the romantic subplot between Fern and Stark before reading comments made by other people about them 😅

There isn't any explicit mention of wanting to pursue a romantic relationship other that one instance of Stark asking Fern on a date, and even that felt more like friends hanging out than anything super romantic to me. The rest of the time they are either fighting for their life or learning about the world and Frieren's past.

you think about it if Frieren is given the ring after they completed the quest it has to be after the *spoiler point* as Frieren leaves the party pretty much straight afterwards
This a mistake made by the translator for the English subs, Himmel didn't say "you worked really hard defeating the demon king" he said "you worked really hard on today's quest" which is a BIG difference. My guess is the translator just assumed they were talking about the demon king and they wanted it to be more specific. But no this wasn't right after the final battle, it's most likely that this happened in the middle of their journey.
@@oscarchavezavellan2738 i think this subtitle also means a lot for manga readers bc in one of the recent arcs, SPOILERS frieren goes back in time, 7 years after the hero party started their journey to defeat the demon king. during this time, they encountered an enemy who was able to put people into dreams that they lost all hope of ever coming true. himmel and frieren experienced this "dream" and in it they were getting married. once she went back to her time, himmel had meories of the dream but past frieren did not. if the subtitle was supposed to allude to the ring scene occurring during their journey, and not after, then there's a possibility he knew they shared a dream of marriage (and she didn't; which is why she was shocked). this would've made a huge impact on how and why himmel gave her the ring the way he did (on one knee).

Frieren's journey has always been a bit aimless, she mostly decided to go to Aureole due to Eisen's encouragement, tbh if she is able to speak with Himmel again I can't imagine much else besides her saying goodbye and moving on with her life
Himmel of the past is not the Himmel of the future, the one who has completed their journey, waited Frieren for 50 years and passed away. The one Frieren wanted to meet and talk to is that Himmel. So Frieren has not completed her journey. She will continue to find Aureole and this time she will be able to say what she wants to say without worrying about timeline changing.

The title itself is a hint to this, as Sousou means sending off someone, and Frieren journey is akin to sending off Himmel by remembering and honoring his memory.
