    I to an EFL set up and did away with the DFC . It has a much crisper feel in my opinion. I ordered the same canopy that you did from mask pro just by coincidence. And now I have another canopy coming for my Gaui NX4 from mask pro in orange, super nice !

      I’ve personally never noticed a difference between the two heads. Really it’s all in FBL tuning. Mask pro makes a great canopy. Very strong fiberglass an incredible paint quality. Definitely recommend them.

      @@westhobbiesrc8051 Well maybe the difference is the time effort and money that it took to convert it so I'm bias lol . I've done every single upgrade you can do to my Nitro 600 and it does actually fly pretty awesome! Just finishing up swapping a mini brain for my mini vbar on my trex 450l. I do really like the Ikon now, I've pretty much swapped my whole fleet to Ikon/Brain . Except my Goosky and OMP .

      @@ianreed4636 I’ve got a full 600XN head that I put on mine just to do some playing with and I didn’t experience any actual flight differences between the two heads. Definitely took multiple tuning flights to get the helicopter to feel how I wanted it to and then now I am completely tearing it back down again and putting it all into a newer 600n DFC frame and keep this one for parts.

    Great video. I have to do a rebuild on my old 550. It flies like a pig, especially compared to the raw 580. The 10 yo tarot zyx gyro probably doenst help. I think the head dampers are trashed. Cyclic response is sluggish and when given hard elevator it has a strange aileron wobble/sway.
    It's getting retired soon, only to be flown if I feel nostalgic. The raw 580 flies so much more locked in.

      That FBL definitely don’t help lol the head dampers are definitely probably wore out, my 550 DFC flys amazing! Super locked and solid. Running a Brain FBL. I had lot of problems with this 600n with the beastX. I went Ikon 2 and all problems solved!

    Again great repair video 💯
    WestHobbiesRC, I again need advice. I just came back from the 3rd flight with my 470. Before the flight I reduced the tail pitch to 4° at center stick as you advised me (I adjusted to e x a c t l y 4 degrees, and I mean e x a c t l y) with the tail servo horn being perpendicular to the frame ✅. The yaw/rudder is like 20°/sec nose left now or even more 😮 It rotates fast. I needed lots of trim to get it straight, but even that wasn't enough.
    I wonder if the low tail gain is the cause: At first I had tail wag, possibly due to servo jitter. I took care of that by deactivating telemetry. Simultaneously, because of the tail wag, I severely decreased tail gain to 35% since I wasn't sure if the tail was wagging because of servo jitter or high tail gain. Could the "low" tail gain right now be the cause of the tail wandering?

      Make absolutely sure that you don't have any vibrations . Any time I've had any problems with the tail , especially in helis of that size it wreaks all kinds of havoc due to the RPM of the rotor .

      @Abszurdista-fatalista 2 роки тому

      @@ianreed4636 Thanks for the info. Vibrations: I haven't checked the logs yet but my Brain2 is mounted with the servo cables towards the head (so I have access to the USB-port). This way there is very little room and the cables are I guess somewhat pushing against the unit. The double sided foam tape I used is not the one that MSH provided (3M), but it's also for RC applications. Further, due to the way of mounting, the unit extends around 7 mm beyond the mounting plate. So no tape there. Could these things cause excess vibration transfer to the unit? I really wanted to have access to that USB-port since it's not the version with bluetooth 😐

      @@Abszurdista-fatalista In my own personal experience with the 450/470 helicopters even 500 I've had the bearings in the tail go out a cause all kinds of problems with the tail holding. I would check all the tail bearings just for peace of mind . Those bearings deal with so much rpm and torsional/axial forces it's a good start and you can eliminate that from your check list of causes .

    • @westhobbiesrc8051
      @westhobbiesrc8051  2 роки тому

      Check for vibrations usually tail issues nine times out of 10 are vibrations. The second thing to make sure of is that you do not have that tail belt twisted too many times. You only want a half turn make sure you don’t have a full turn or a turn and a half twisted tail belts can cause some serious tail issues. Also double check and make sure that the tail is spinning the correct direction of course because in a hover you shouldn’t have to use any stick input to keep the helicopter straight.

      @@westhobbiesrc8051 Thanks for the info.
      1) The motor when powered turns counterclockwise, the head turns clockwise, the tail turns counterclockwise (looking at it from the right side, that is from the tail assembly side)
      2) When I did the assembly, I made sure and double checked the tail has a 90° twist. I followed the instructions in the manual carefully
      3) On my desk I did a realtime vibrations log without the main and tail rotor blades. The "global vibrations" parameter is mostly around 5-7, and peaks for a brief moment at 11 when RPM jumps up to idle up 2, then goes back again to around 6-7. Throwing the sticks around doesn't affect the global vibrations parameter. I can send you the recorded log if you want me to, no problem.
      BUT, I found that the tail blade grips have a slight axial play on the tail feathering shaft. I can't tighten the screws (blade grip / feathering shaft) more since they are already tight. Maybe make an additional tiny washer from an aluminum soda can?
      But still my original question: Can a low tail gain value make the tail wander?
      @ian reed: My 470 has around 6 minutes of total flight time. I doubt the tail bearings went out. The tail bearings seem to be very smooth while rotating the stuff by hand.

      The XN is definitely a different model compared to the older version. The 55 has a lot more power than the 50 believe it or not lol I had a 50 in this one for years and then I switch to the 55 and I can already feel the power difference and engine still isn’t broken in yet. I only got two flights on it before it exploded lol but I’ve been doing a bunch of breaking flights and it is getting better and better. I thought about pulling everything out and sticking it in a XN

    I have never see anyone put grease on their tail gears or any plastic gears for that matter . You definitely don't want grease if you live in a dusty/dirty area like where I live in Las Vegas , we definitely do not run grease on gears . What ever makes you happy though .

    • @westhobbiesrc8051

      I have always greased my TT gears. I don’t fly in really any dirt so I never worry about it. And 20+ years I don’t think I’ve ever had any dirt really get in and cause an issue exception of course of crash or something like that. But yes if you do fly in a very dirty or sandy environment I would highly recommend not doing it.
