We started the game yesterday and the rule was very complicated (for me, who rarely played board games). We finished Chapter 1 of campaign 1 but noticed that we missed some rules and decided to replay the Chapter. I found this video today and this is life-and-time saver. Thank you so much for the tutorial!!!! 🎉
35:55 But it could be prevented by killing the beast is using a quicker attack or using stagger. Abilities usually happen on the spot without having any recourse but in this case this ability do have a speed and a timing which allow the hunters to react and try to prevent things.
I’m late as hell. Anyways. If you have two players playing and one decides to go into the hunters dream, rules say move up the time line. My question(s) is does one player doing that on his/her turn force the other players into the hunters dream? Do the other players get to go thru their turn? Does the time line move just once or when it’s that hunter who went into the hunters dream? If you have an idea please help. Thanks!
Awesome video. I just wanted to point out a few things that are not completely accurate/complete. I don't want to say you got these wrong because I think you maybe just left out some details or meant one thing but said something else. 1. When you said you can keep the dodge card and not clear it until after combat, that is not true. Unless you are just using it as a reminder, it needs to be cleared immediately. There are many situations where the slot being full or not will matter when attacks resolve. So clear immediately. (When I was learning, I turned the card sideways as a reminder of what I did but just to remember the card is not there anymore) 2. (edit: this is wrong - see Learn to Play's reply below) When you upgrade your cards in the Dream, you save any unused stat cards because these can be changed between chapters. Maybe you took an upgrade and realized it was a bad choice. Next chapter, take your old card back. 3. You said you cannot enter a tile with a broken lamp. I think you meant to say you cannot teleport to the lamp and return from the dream to the lamp. You just mentioned previously that you can enter the fog gate so I'm guessing this was just an accident/misworded. 4. Last round is a bit more complex then you mentioned. You said when the players reach the final space, it triggers the last round. That's not completely right. The final round only starts when the token is on the last space at the beginning of a round. That means if you trigger the last space in the middle of a round by going to the Dream, the other hunters continue to take their turns normally (you still reset). After all hunters have gone, you reset again. Now that the token is starting on the red space, the final round is officially started. Now once all hunters have gone and the round ends, the game is over. Resets happen exactly as you described though. So those issues were maybe a bit more complex than you wanted to get into for this video but they are things I've seen other players trip up on so I wanted to bring them up. Thanks for this video and I hope you don't mind if I add it to my Bloodborne TBG tutorial playlist that I'm sharing on FB and BGG.
Thanks so much for watching and posting this list of corrections. 1. You are correct with this I was using it just as a reminder of the dodge, but turning it is a great way to show that and not forget to remove it. 2. With this one I am not seeing that in the book. On page 25 under saving progress it states "Store each hunter's firearms, consumables and rewards together with their hunter deck. Store all completed insight cards together. Any upgrade cards that were discarded should be shuffled back into their deck." 3. Yes you are correct I meant to say you cannot teleport to the lamp and you can't return from the hunter's dream to a broken lamp. 4. Yes you are correct I didn't explain that completely and left out some of it. Thanks again and yes please add it to your play list;)
@@LearntoPlayGames Ah, I just checked and you're absolutely correct. In the Hunter's Dream part of the book, it says to discard the unused stat cards when you upgrade and that you can't use them again this chapter. Then in the "Progressing the Campaign" section, it says upgrade cards are kept and not exchanged between hunters. I think I took the last line of "Saving Progress" to mean that the unused/discarded upgrade cards are shuffled back into the players deck (as in saved until next time). The wording in the Hunter's Dream section made it sound like they could be used again in a later chapter which is why I was thinking it would work that way. But I believe you're right. The earlier sentence about not being used again this chapter is meaning you can't put them back into the upgrade deck to be possibly drawn again. If the designers wanted us to save stat cards then they would've just listed them with the other cards that get saved instead of wording it the way they did. Thanks for replying to my comment and I already made you the first video on the playlist!
First of all, thank you for making such a detailed video! I got this game for xmas and we played it pretty much right away. We had some questions and I stumbled across your video which clarified a ton of things. I also just wanted to mention as a tip for anyone reading, at 34:55 you didn't use your weapon's ability of drawing a card when you killed the Scourge Beast.
36:14 why hunter mob didnt move into direction of active hunter ? (both tiles are connected).Last group minions have the same sytuation ( both tiles are connected /they are 3 spaces away from active hunter ) and still u moved him in direction of that hunter ? How does it work :O?
Thanks for watching and for your questions. First tiles are only connected if they both have the blue exits lined up. There is a great example of this in the rule book on page 14 under revealing and populating tiles. So in the video the tiles you are referring to are not considered connected. Than with the last hunter mob they don't move because they are in a space with a hunter and will only move if by doing so they would move into the same space as the active hunter. In my example the active hunter is two spaces away so they don't move. I hope this clears it up for you;)
@@LearntoPlayGames Still dont get it why Hunter Mob from Central Lamp tile didnt activate and move in direction of active hunter even tiles are connected :( ( The reason is that he is on space with unactive hunter ?
@@LearntoPlayGames thanks for answer! and do you know what happens when you are moved by an enemy during activation phase - I gather that enemies that are now near you, activate, but what about those that were about to, but are out of range suddenly, are they still activating or now not? I think not, but by the rules: when in doubt, choose the worst scenario for you 😂
@pgkrzywy I would say no as well because you check for each group at different points during enemy activation. Now I do think there is a rule that would activate enemy groups that previously did not activate. For example you have already activated all beasts that are in range than you move to the next group and one of those enemies pushes you into a new space that now has a beast that was out of range before so you do go back and activate it as well.
Fantastic video, the rulebook made a lot of sense but once I started playing there were some things I forgot or had to lookup. This video was great to watch as a post mortem of my play to see what I did wrong. Thank you for doing such a great video and giving examples.
Thanks so much to watching and posting. When I am learning a new game I have to play test it a number of times and go back and reread the rules as I miss or mess up stuff a lot during the first couple of plays. I have found sometimes it just helps to see the game in motion as well. Did you have a chance to check out my play through series of the Long Hunt yet?
Great video, I have been looking for a beginners guide for a couple months now and this is the best one I've found. Only nit pick I have is in the description you say "Yhanam is suffering", however the city is spelled Yharnam. I'm sure just a slight oversight but figured I'd point it out to you. Thank you so much for putting this together though, I will be sharing it with my friends before we have our first play session.
For The Long Hunt, and I image other hunt missions, we need to collect 2 Insight. Do the rules state how to collect Insight? I haven’t been able to find it
When it says "collect 2 Insight" read it as "collect 2 Insight cards" - it's not clear at all in the rules because you have insight tokens and insight cards, but in these cases you're always collecting the cards.
Thanks to the others for answering as well and they are correct, I have a play through video coming soon that I answered this question in just for you. To cover it here each mission will have a number of side missions within it that will normally be triggered by moving into a tile or interacting with something. When you complete a side mission the final card that lists the rewards for that mission is also the Insight card so completing two side missions will get you the two insight you need to move forward in the primary mission.
The consumables and upgrade decks need to be shuffled, but not the rewards deck as you will be instructed to take specific cards out of it. Please let me know if this clears it up for you and thanks for watching and for the question.
Full Moon Kickstarter supporter here. Love the game (one of my fav board games) this was a nice refresher after not playing for over a year. The rules are a bit confusing for newbies. Also around @33:13 how would you have 0 connecting points for "Barred Window" tile if it needs something for the hunter to first get there connected?
Thanks for watching and great catch. I think you are the first person to catch that. I was just laying down tiles to go over the rules and forgot to check and make sure everything was connected correctly.
Hi! Great video after the bad rulebook. I have still 1-2 questions. When a fight end? After you run out of cards? Or when you and the enemy attacked once? Or when you made all the attack chances you could make and the enemy made 1 attack? If you damaged the enemy and the fight ended your daamage is still there for the next player or the enemy is healing himself? Thanks for the answers!!!
If you attack an enemy, they respond with an enemy attack action. Speed and effects apply. After your turn, the enemy activates, if they are still alive, and attacks you again therefore you can respond with a card, if you had any left over.
Hey Lance, first of all I love your channel. Secondly, question about enemy movement. Sorry for my poor English, I do hope my question will be understandable. So I have the question for the Scourge Beast. Since it has 2 movement on pursuit and whatnot, how would we resolve situation as this one: The beast is on adjacent tile the the active player and has to move 2 spaces. But as it moves this 1 of 2 spaces, it encounters the inactive player which happens to be in between the beast and the active player. What happens? The beasts stops on the inactive player space or it stops and attack the inactive player or ignores the inactive player and proceeds to move 2 said spaces? We came across this today with my wife and we were puzzled what to do, since the manual and errata doesn't specify what to do in this type of situation. Please help.
Great video! 👍 super helpful. I know you didn't ask but I wanted to share some positive feedback about your videos 1) I appreciate how you don't bog down the viewer with too many words, very concise and clear 2) it's awesome how you set up examples to show how the actions or mechanics work. This is highly valuable. (I've always needed a diagram) 3) how organized the process is, and that when there are additional rules, you come back to it at a later time l. I find that helps keep the full process in mind without getting distracted by additional rules. 4) most how to play videos I have to set up my game and follow along, yours I don't even need to know the components before hand, I feel like I can grasp everything. So whatever your magical ingredients are its working! Thanks appreciate all your videos and hard work!
The Best and celar video on bloodborne board game thanks . 😉 i have a question : if i Draw a new firearm whats appening if i dont want it? Can i take anyway and switch when i want ? How many fire arm i can take ? I can have 2 active reward per time , but if i draw a 3º reward can i take and switch whit this when i want ?
Thanks so much for the feedback and for the questions. Both of your questions are covered in the rule book on page 17. For the first one if you gain a new firearm you may replace your previous one with it. Than place any unused ones to the side. Hunters will keep any collected firearms throughout the entire campaign and may only switch them out between missions. For your second question. If you would gain a 3rd one of either of these, they may immediately give any 1 to another player. if no player wants it or can't equip it, place it to the side. Reward cards are kept throughout the entire campaign and may be switched out between missions. Hope this helps and I will try to include this in the final play through video I will be releasing next week.
@@LearntoPlayGames thanks for the quick and clear answer 🔝 professional. Can I discard a card to go to the hunter's dream while I'm in a tile whit fog gate? Can the initial central lamp teleport me directly inside a tile whit fog gates and broker lamp ? Thanks again 😉
Those are colored clips that come with the game so you know what character you are controlling. They will match the player board your character card is on.
question: once enemies begin pursuing you, how does that work? Do they only get to move just that one space ONE time during enemy activation within the current round and then stop? Or do they get MULTIPLE moves within a single round as part of their pursuit, i.e. after every single hunter action (every time immediately after a hunter spends 1 of the 3 cards from their hunter deck)? I'm completely confused by how pursuit and enemy activation works. I don't know if activated pursuits in previous rounds continue as soon as a new round starts, and then it activates again in the activation phase....so it's like additive....or not. Please help, lol.
Thanks for the question and for watching. With pursuit it is all based on the active hunter and his/her proximity to monsters. Here is a link to a play through i did that might help clear it up so you can see things in action. ua-cam.com/video/Oav0NOEGEJY/v-deo.html
First, great vid it was really really informative, because I saw some reviews on it and when they explained some of the rules I didn't quite grasp them but this was in depth and enjoyable. Second, where can you buy this at? Just off of eBay or is there a better alternative?
Thanks so much for watching and the positive feedback. You can pick this game up on CMON's store here is the link for that: www.cmon.com/product/bloodborne-the-board-game/bloodborne-the-board-game
I’ve played a few times now and one question I have is when an item (like numbing mist) says “on attack” can you still use it even if you don’t declare an attack? Like as a way to mitigate damage when you have no cards left.
“On Attack” means that you must perform the ability during step 1 of Combat. An important thing to remember is that you always follow the same Combat steps regardless of if you as a Hunter used an action to start combat or an enemy attacks you. So the answer to your question is, yes you can use Numbing mist if you are attacked by an enemy, but only if you place a Stat card in one of your weapon slots (as this effectively is your attack).
How does teleporting work? Is the hunter able to teleport back and forth from any lamp or is it only from the one on the central tile? Does this require using Interact? Also, are you allowed to teleport on to a broken lamp or do you have to go in through the fog gates?
It is all based on the hunt board you start by activating all the yellow enemies(in my video that was the scourged beasts) . Within that group only the enemies that are on your tile or a connected tile will activate and than it is up to you the order of those activations. Once you are done with all yellow enemies than activate all red and finally purple.
If you get additional enemies that aren't included (via Insight Missions) and/or bosses, they are added to the right of the board, with the resolve order from left to right as long as cards remain to resolve.
@@acrazyjewlover turn order is 1. Hunter activate 2. Enemy turn. Then next hunter goes. Then enemy activates. Until all hunters take their turn. Then the round ends.
Board 2 Often is correct enemies only attack the active player unless the enemy has an attack that targets hunters in its space like the Huntsman's Minion special overhead slam attack.
Am I forced to spend the last card of my stat deck to go to the hunters dream or am I forced to go to the hunters dream after spending my last stat card to pick up consumables?
No, there are only two ways you can go to the hunters dream. The first is if you lose all your hit points. The other way is if you choose to take an action to go there.
Thanks for watching and for the question so each hunter's turn has two parts the hunter activation and an enemy activation. So 1 Hunter, Enemies, 1 Hunter, Enemies until all players have gone. I did a play through video as well for Bloodborne you might want to check it out so you can see how it plays.
This was an outstanding teaching video. Right level of detail, very clear visuals, the best! I had one question. At time 41:00, when you move one of the hunters across 2 spaces. Can she move to the second space? I don't see a connection between the right tile and the space she moved into on the left tile. Anyways, thanks again!
Thanks so much, it is great hearing the video is helpful. Thanks for the question as well. There is a connection to the tiles under the fog gates which you can move into but once you are in there you can't move out until the fog gates are removed.
Just played the first 2 chapters of the long hunt yesterday with a friend and it was awesome, I do have 2 questions though 1. Does going to the Hunters dream count as ending your turn? for example, in our game we had read that both ending your turn and going to the hunters dream progressed the hunt track meaning that if we went to the hunters dream the dial would move 2 spaces. 2. Does the hunt dial move one space per hunter that enters the dream? This one confused is the most as if that were the case then 4 players would cause the dial to move 4 spaces, possibly 5 depending on the answer to question 1, so a third of the hunt dials progress has been used to enter the hunters dream. I'm not sure if you still answer these questions but thanks for the tutorial, it helped us to navigate this game a lot easier than we would have been able to otherwise.
In the combat at 22 minutes, you played it wrong. The hunter mob moved before your attack, before you could attack them, and they took no damage. A running theme I seem to be encountering as I try to figure out why everyone likes the game is that nobody is actually playing combat properly, and is winning a lot of combat they should be losing *badly*.
I went back and watched the section you reference and I am not seeing what you are talking about. I watched from 20 to 27min and in that section I am going over how an attack action works. The mob played their special which is a speed 1, 4 damage attack with stun. There is no movement involved with that attack so I don't see how they would have moved. I did a teaching video for this game and 3 play through videos and with over 20 thousand views across the videos no one has ever stated I am playing combat wrong all the time. Please give me the exact time in the video you are seeing this so I can see what you are referring to. Thanks for watching and for the question;)

Thanks!
It would be nice if you played the Long Hunt since it works like a tutorial campaign
That was the one that had the most votes in the poll I did so hopefully I will have the first video soon;)
(When I was learning, I turned the card sideways as a reminder of what I did but just to remember the card is not there anymore)
Any upgrade cards that were discarded should be shuffled back into their deck."

I know you didn't ask but I wanted to share some positive feedback about your videos
1) I appreciate how you don't bog down the viewer with too many words, very concise and clear
2) it's awesome how you set up examples to show how the actions or mechanics work. This is highly valuable. (I've always needed a diagram)
3) how organized the process is, and that when there are additional rules, you come back to it at a later time l.
This was so nice and really made my day. Thanks so much for your feedback and taking the time to post this;)
Loved the video, great work. 😁
Awesome, thank you!
This is a brilliant tutorial I discovered I was doing a couple of things wrong.
Happy to help, Thanks for watching and for posting. I hope you have a great time with the game;)
@@LearntoPlayGames it seems to have the perfect match between simple mechanics and complex strategy.
amazing, i dont even have the game but love your videos
Thanks it means a lot to hear you enjoy the videos even when you don't have the games;)
What are those little colored things on the bottom of the player models?
Those are colored clips that come with the game so you know what character you are controlling. They will match the player board your character card is on.
@@LearntoPlayGames Thanks! They're called clips then? Looking to buy some extras for the character expansions
This was very helpful, thanks!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching and posting;)
I may be a little late to this, but for movement do you discard any stat card to move 2 or a specific one.
Also with discarding to attack do you just move it to that attack you are doing?
Any and you move 1 or 2 as you see fit.
You don't discard to attack you place in slots.@@elixrspace5927
question: once enemies begin pursuing you, how does that work?
So 3 player cards will be refresh only on the first round? And i cannot refresh it during mu turn?
First, great vid it was really really informative, because I saw some reviews on it and when they explained some of the rules I didn't quite grasp them but this was in depth and enjoyable. Second, where can you buy this at? Just off of eBay or is there a better alternative?
Thanks so much for watching and the positive feedback. You can pick this game up on CMON's store here is the link for that: www.cmon.com/product/bloodborne-the-board-game/bloodborne-the-board-game
@@LearntoPlayGames awesome thank you so much!
Thank you Lance, good job… Very helpful
You are welcome! Thanks for watching and posting. I will have my play through campaign coming soon as well;)
Can I attack a monster that is attacking a friend of mine
How does teleporting work? Is the hunter able to teleport back and forth from any lamp or is it only from the one on the central tile? Does this require using Interact? Also, are you allowed to teleport on to a broken lamp or do you have to go in through the fog gates?
I believe you can teleport to any active lamp (not broken) from the Hunter's Dream. You can't teleport from one lamp to another.
Excellent as always. Thanks for making this.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching and posting;)
What is the activation order for enemies? By type? Or closer to farther from active hunter? What about bosses vs other enemies?
It is all based on the hunt board you start by activating all the yellow enemies(in my video that was the scourged beasts) . Within that group only the enemies that are on your tile or a connected tile will activate and than it is up to you the order of those activations. Once you are done with all yellow enemies than activate all red and finally purple.
If you get additional enemies that aren't included (via Insight Missions) and/or bosses, they are added to the right of the board, with the resolve order from left to right as long as cards remain to resolve.
Also, don't you (the hunter) have to declare the attack before the enemies?
You do, that is step one where you are selecting your card and placement on your hunter trick weapon.
who does the enemy attack if there are two hunters sharing a space?
I believe it attacks active player first but I could be wrong
@@board2often277 right but what if we all activated?
Do all players take there hunter turn, then the enemies activate or is it: 1 Hunter, Enemies, 1 hunter, Enemies. ETC?
Thanks for watching and for the question so each hunter's turn has two parts the hunter activation and an enemy activation. So 1 Hunter, Enemies, 1 Hunter, Enemies until all players have gone. I did a play through video as well for Bloodborne you might want to check it out so you can see how it plays.
play the long hunt campain
Thanks, hoping to start this soon;)
This was an outstanding teaching video. Right level of detail, very clear visuals, the best!
I had one question. At time 41:00, when you move one of the hunters across 2 spaces. Can she move to the second space? I don't see a connection between the right tile and the space she moved into on the left tile.
Anyways, thanks again!
Thanks so much, it is great hearing the video is helpful. Thanks for the question as well. There is a connection to the tiles under the fog gates which you can move into but once you are in there you can't move out until the fog gates are removed.
Just played the first 2 chapters of the long hunt yesterday with a friend and it was awesome, I do have 2 questions though
Can players backstab in this game?
No at least not in the base game this is completely cooperative.
