Audio crossovers are a type of electronic filter circuitry used in a range of audio applications, to split up an audio signal into two or more frequency ranges, so that the signals can be sent to drivers that are designed for different frequency ranges. Crossovers are used in loudspeaker cabinets, power amplifiers in consumer electronics (hi-fi, home cinema sound and car audio) and professional audio and music amplifier products. For the latter, crossovers are used in bass amplifiers, keyboard amplifiers, bass and keyboard speaker enclosures and sound reinforcement system equipment (PA speakers, monitor speakers, subwoofer systems, etc.). Crossovers are used because most individual loudspeaker drivers are incapable of covering the entire audio spectrum from low frequencies to high frequencies with acceptable relative volume and absence of distortion. Most hi-fi speaker systems and sound reinforcement system speaker cabinets use a combination of multiple loudspeaker drivers, each catering to a different frequency band. A standard simple example is in hi-fi and PA system cabinets that contain a woofer for low and mid frequencies and a tweeter for high frequencies. Since a sound signal source, be it recorded music from a CD player or a live band's mix from an audio console has all of the low, mid and high frequencies combined, a crossover circuit is used to split the audio signal into separate frequency bands that can be separately routed to loudspeakers, tweeters or horns optimized for those frequency bands. Active crossovers are distinguished from passive crossovers in that whereas passive crossovers split up an amplified signal coming from one power amplifier so that it can be sent to two or more drivers (e.g., a woofer and a very low frequency subwoofer, or a woofer and a tweeter), an active crossover splits up audio signal prior to amplification, so that it can be sent to two or more power amplifiers, each of which is connected to a separate driver type. Home cinema 5.1 surround sound audio systems use a crossover which separates out the low-frequency signal, so that it can be sent to a subwoofer, and then sends the mid- and high-range frequencies to five speakers which are placed around the listener; in a typical application, the signals sent to the surround speaker cabinets are further split up with a passive crossover into a low/mid-range woofer and a high range tweeter. Active crossovers come in both digital and analog varieties. Digital active crossovers often include additional signal processing, such as limiting, delay, and equalization. Signal crossovers allow the audio signal to be split into bands that are processed separately before they are mixed together again.

Initially, video did not mean much. But as it went on winding, things started impressing in mind so easily n effectively.
I read a comment that urs is theoretical one. Can he show anyone in india, who can explain so simply n impressively? May be internet is full of such material. But can he present it on his own without expertise in subject? Simply commenting is non sense. Though it is true that the things be shown practically, but it has its own costs. This hardship should not deter any genius from sharing his knowledge, though theoretically.
U need not bother for such absurd, impractical and irrelevant comments. Plz go on producing such videos on audio spectrum.

I am going to make a 6 amplifier 3 way active crossover stereo.(3speaker in one box x 2 )I am planning to use 100 watts x2 for woofers .I am not able to decide the amplifier wattage for the 2xmid range and 2x tweeters. Kindly suggest.

I have two 10W 42 mm (1.5inch) 4 Ohm subwoofer. LVpin838 has an amplifier. So the point to make is that if you add a 20 RMS (200 watt PMPO) watt amplifier to a 10 watt speaker, will it sound good? Or can I play it in a lower voice? Please guide

One doubt sir. If I have an 5.1 or 7.2 channel av receiver, then maximum time we use 2 way or 3 way passive crossover for every speaker unit. Like center channel front left and right channel Surround left and right channel and also atmos. Then how can I use a active crossover in this situation. Can you please explain this?
Hello sir crossover is not a channel it is only frequency divider.your sorrund system has already inbuilted all of this.

Thank you for this valuable information. I have a small query, the crossover inside of the speakers is it not good specially for home Audio system. For example: for my two way bookshelf speakers it is written in owners manual "Intricate seven element crossover - Deep Spheroid custom wave guide". If I am not wrong active crossovers are possible in commercial installations where multiple amps can be used to drive different speakers ans speakers that do not have their individual crossovers. In home audio what I have seen and this is also rare because of cost involved is Bi-amping like for woofer separate amp and for mid-range and tweeter a separate amp. Many ppl also bi-wiring taking connection from same amp but that i find totally ineffective. Try to answer my query asked in this comment.
If you choose appropriate wattage amplifier , then bi or tri amping is actully cheaper. with only TDA2030 ic you can make very good triamp amplifier. Of course it is slightly complicated. Also for home use we can get good effect by using proper passive crossover. I will make one video on how to make passive crossover at home.

@@WhatIThink Thanks. It is said that the quest for good audio is never ending and it is a field where there are no limits. I will keep watching ur videos and taking relevant points from those but it is very unlikely that I will make any changes in my present amp or speaker setup. Over the years I have spent a very good amount on building these.
@@WhatIThink Just want to put this over here. It is my observation that exclusive speaker brands (specially European, American etc ) do a lot of R&D on making custom crossovers that they put in their speaker boxes. Usually the higher the price the better the quality of crossover and drivers. Many brands just assemble taking parts from other suppliers and doing mix & match, seen with many indian brands. Their speakers do not sound that good and precise. Hope I am right in that.

Nice Video! I have some doubts regarding Active Crossover:-
1) If I use this crossover, then can we need separate tone control (bass-treble) circuits ?
2) If i build a tree way stereo speaker system then we need total 6 nos of power amplifies for each frequency & each channel? If yes then also power requirements are also needed huge.
3) In simple words its a band pass circuit i think, and more suitable for 2.1 channel system rather than 2.0 stereo.
Yes you can use tone control if you want otherwise not required
6 amplifiers are required but mid will be half power of bass and high will be half power of mid. Therefore even with 6 amplifiers very heavy power supply is not required.
These circuits are used in stereo as well as 2.1 both. You have to modify circuit as per your requirement.

Sir 4192 II only 50 watts per channel hoti hai...Aapne bahut jyada load de diye. Max 50 watts ka woofer lagaiye.aur tweeter par 4.7uf ka capacitor series me lagaiye.
