Lyrics:
Forgive me Father
For I have sinned
Find me guilty of the life I feel within
When I'm branded
This mark of shame
Should I look down disgraced
Or staright ahead
And know that you must blame
I am, I am the secret
I am, I am the sin
I am, I am the guilty
And I... I am the thorn within
Forgive me Father
For I have sinned
Find me guilty when true guilt is from within
So point your fingers
Point right at me
For I am shadows and will follow you
One and the same are we
I am, I am the secret
I am, I am the sin
I am, I am the guilty
And I... I am the thorn within
I do your time
I take your fall
I'm branded guilty
For us all
So point your fingers
Point right at me
For I am shadows and will follow
One and the same are we
I am, I am the secret
I am, I am the sin
I am, I am the guilty
And I... I am the thorn within
I am the thorn within...(x6)
One of Metallica's best albums. Fuck what anybody else says.
Darren Pope well that is a way to get people pissed XD. this album is good but what they have made before the load era is great as well.
+Darren Pope yeah
+ripa9 Yeah, and what's really interesting about it, is it's mostly heavy metal purists who are bitching and complaining about Metallica straying too far from their roots. Lol. And it's almost always a comment on said video explaining why the song sucks in their opinion.
When I first heard this album upon its release, I was caught off-guard expecting different, but this has become my favorite album of theirs.
hell yeah you said that shit right rock on
That little solo Hetfield does at 3:50 is fantastic, it fits the song so well!! Hetfield has a pretty bluesy lead style, it's great!
I didn’t kno Het played this solo! (I know he’s played a few..). Sweet.
That's not James' solo, it's Kirk's
@@nicholascraft1923 1- Not Kirk's tone
2- Is on the left side
3- Is James
I am shadows
love this album..helped me through a very dark difficult time in my life..
exactly
Should I look down disgraced? Or look *straight ahead*
Grande muy extraordinario..así es amigos!!
Nice powell peralta profile pic🛹
Me to dude
"Find me guilty when true guilt is from within"; beautifully said. Or sung.
both 😎
indeed 😎
I remember true guilt being from within being a plot point in a Red Dwarf episode. One that the episode revolved aroundm

0:45 that riff. THAT RIFF!!!!
stolen from all them witches "naked start naked"
All them witches was around at the time?
@@lamafietta3682 Danzig and Stone Temple Pilots also stole this riff
@@lamafietta3682 well fuck. thanks for ruining it.
@@pablorentani2179 no Danzig's version came first in 1990. Then STP ripped it off in 1993 then Metallica ripped it off in 1996.
Metallica should do a load and reload tour only...just to re live how great these songs were and I bet they must sound great live...I'd buy a ticket. ..
Albert Albert agreed!
Albert Albert Do 2 shows, Live and Relive
I would absolutely love to hear Metallica do a tour where they only play songs off Load and Reload. I always wanted to hear Prince Charming in its entirety. On the Cunning Stunts DVD Metallica played the very beginning of Prince Charming but not the whole song. From what I heard, the song sounded great live. There are so many super underrated songs by Metallica that would sound amazing live. The Metallica Camp need to make this happen!💪🏻🤘🏻
Absolutely I would see it
Me too!
I'm 15, and I'm going through all Metallica's albums, downloading the songs I like. I have all of them up to this song so far, Plus the ones I already had. After I'm done, I'm going through Megadeth's albums.
yeah, you go kid.
don't do megadeth kid, just dont. megadeth is bad kids.
@@REAPERX1349 He's 21 now. He's an adult. :/
Enjoy the jurney
Just curious Zack, are you still amongst the Metal ranks?
I'm wondering how far the iron road has taken you. I started with Metallica myself in the early 90s and they are still one of my favorites. Then I discovered bands that like us were also moved and inspired by Metallica and that inspiration lead them to form there on bands. Bands that for me have joined Metallica and became part of my very soul. Like Trivium,
Killswitch Engage and Volbeat. Just to name a few.
Its been 8 years since your comment, I hope your still throwing up the horns man!
And that you have made your own discoveries.
3:51 I love this solo so much. Can't stop replaying.
James writes the best solos ever.
Lars's Wig dumb ass
"Like" if you agree that Metallica should play this live.
Hetfield's solo is short and simple but it has a lot of feeling. Love it!
One of the things I love about this song is that James plays the solo, as well as on The Outlaw Torn, he is so much more than a rhythm player
Charlie Wielowski James plays the second solo on Outlaw Torn
great underrated song.
GAMECUBE SUNSHINE like the whole Load album
This whole album is tbh.
Because some of the songs just have that *Bluesy* feel, and a couple of them even have sort of a *"Southern Rock"* "twang" as well.
Really awesome and diverse album to me.
IMO, I like it tbh.
@MrBusticador Danzig copied Floyd’s lucifer sam
i respect this album
i hate how people say they sold out
if your in a band you can do whatever you want with it
nobody runs your band but you
1996 aged 24 hated it
2022 aged 25 love it
They say everything gets better given time
This album is litterally the Alice Of Chains from Metallica 🤩
I used to play Mario Bros. in my Ds and listen to this AMAZING album! It was my thing! 🌟✌😂
I really love how James sings in this one! The load and reload albums have really grown on me lately! Fucking masterpieces! The thing I love about Metallica is how they have songs for all kind of moods! My alltime favorite band! I know there a lot of better bands than them, but damn tallica is just special in my heart! \m/
I think they are James best "singing" vocals, hands down, for sure. He was on his vocal game in the 90s. And all the 90s albums feature some incredible music. People get so bent out of shape because they changed their sound from trash metal. But as far as I'm concerned, as much as I LOVE their thrash albums, Justice being my fav. album of all time, I'm glad they moved on, I'm glad they experimented with some of the sounds that influenced THEIR sound (hard rock, classic metal, southern rock, etc.),
The 90s albums really round out their catalogue, and I personally and forever grateful they gave us some "lower key" albums, not simply their thrash material.
monamOneX There is no better band than them. They're badass, versatile, accurate to the point and fucking hard hitting, energetic as hell still mystic like fire, creative still earthy, and rockin' the shit outta anyone for almost fourty years now. No end being in sight they still got the energy like from day 1. They can touch every part of your body from your toes to your skin to your head heart and soul. There is no motherfucking band like them.
X Y Fuck yeah! Good call
I'm always in the mood for Metallica
No way man metallica is the fuckin greatest!!!!!!!🔥🔥💀
Who else just loves this song? I would rate it with Metallica's best, and would LOVE to hear it played live.
+Chishannicon Somos dois!
Fuckin great song, I like slither too
They never played that song live. Liar detected
metallica.com/songs/34670/thorn-within Say that to them.
LIVE PERFORMANCES
“Thorn Within” has never been performed live
Load is by far thier greatest output! Just fucking awesome, it just takes time to appreciate it
That's why his name is Load. It takes a while, but when it's loaded...
I'm an Architect I don't do import/export anymore.
it didn't take me long..
This is my favorite Metallica album by far. love all the different sounds and melodies.

Anyone who doesn't appreciate Load should be choked. So many unique and quality songs.
1st metallica album I bought in 95 or 96' the true gem of the load albums was thirn within and bleeding me
@@breestudios8575 Yes! 2 highly underrated songs.
BuT MetAlLiCa SoLd OuT. Man fuck those ppl. Metallica did what they wanted to and honestly, this is some if the best, and most heartfelt material they ever made
@@breestudios8575 outlaw torn is good too
Dude load and reload are underrated. I love them so much
Anyone else who would have wanted S&M to include this song?
As a musician and lyricist James Hetfield is undeniably brilliant. If people don't see that they are usually not really even looking. Once you study this bands approach to songwriting and the intricacies in their arrangements, you'll shut the fuck up and stop crying and become ONE with those of us that appreciate one of the most influential and remarkable bands to have ever existed.
This is one of my favorite Metallica song ever, and this is from a diehard fan.
James in 1996: I am the thorn within!
James in 1997: I am the snake!
James in 2011: I AM THE TABLE!
As a botchamania fan, I've always wanted to know which song the lyric comes from, because that's always one of my favorite memes of the video series, after wrestlers can't break the table :P
1991: I'm your life!

1991 - I'm Youuu
I wish the parts with minimal guitar, bass and drums would be longer because the vocals just make them so, so good.
Great album
+Vinnie Stevens load and black album are the two best
+alex82 Agreed.
this is so fucking good holy shit! Cures every psychological problem and its possible to cure cancer too
love this album like those: ride the lightning, master of puppets, kill em all, and justice, reload, the black album, death magnetic, st. anger, garage inc. ... in general...
LOVE METALLICA!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)
and garage days
What about lulu
St anger hmmmmmmmm
I could care less if close minded people sit and cry foul at Metallica branching out. They've always said they hate being defined and confined by anything other than simply being "Metallica". This is a beautiful and moving piece of music. If you don't like it, at least respect it. For me, it's damn good.
Load is one of thee best Metallica albums. A culmination of Metallic's true journey. When I was 16 listening to Load I was like what the hell is this its not Master of the Puppets! 17 years later.. I see the error of my ways. And appreciate the album that much more.
Thorn Within is such a great song that deserves more love. Truly underrated.
Strong lyrics from James' emotional side. Some could find relatable.
Overall groovy riffs that is a bit heavy in some parts, a nice mix.
Lars laid down a great drum track, keeping the momentum of the song 'till the end. Great fills and tom work. His composition on this track is great as well, something he doesn't get enough credit for.
Jason has a nice bass line through out the song, following some riffs for more punch and giving atmosphere to the quieter clean parts. His bass sounds a bit buried which is weird for this album as his bass is mostly prominent.
Kirk's clean riffs are simple but add to the clean guitar parts filling in the silence with something distant. A touch of wah on the distortion helps give this track more feeling and groove.
James' with a simple yet emotional feeling solo. It's short sweet and bridges the gap between the two surrounding chorus.
The lead at the end is awesome. With Kirk's heavier variation punching through the right and the groovy lead from James, it makes the end feel very full and energy filled. A last bang before the track is out.
this is so underrated
Lazilly written? If you watch the documentary, they actually put a lot of time into the album. It was kind of amazing that given their situation they even managed to put the record together at all.
I love this song. Such underrated magic.
the highlights of metallica's creativity was load...
I think that Load/ReLoad are the depths of James' soul and feelings. He said that these albums are his most personal.
Those albums were the peak of their lyric writing
Man, you seriously need to listen ...And Justice For All to say that.
Lars was lowkey banging on these two albums \m/
@@infectedvoice4670 I've been listening to AFA and their old stuff for more than 25 years, and really really love it, but in terms of creativity, overall, Load, is the highest peak of their career. Just my humble opinion!
FUCK YEAH JAMES bring back the raw emotion that I miss and love. Nothing compares!
This was my first cd....and one of my favorites....metallica rocks!!!
Load really doesn't get enough credit. I can honestly say it's my favourite Metallica album, Master of Puppets a very close second
Another masterpiece from the greatest band in the world
0:45 that riff is nasty af
i love how james pulls of the last sense with power.
i am the thorn wiTHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNnnnnn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Those guitar tones (both rhythm and lead), still as beautiful as the first time I listened to it.
this albums has so many gems and this is one of them.
love james' vocals in this one ❤... load and reload james vocals are better
James sounds a bit more misfit and experimental in Reload.
nothing like James voice to impersonate a teenager girl... and a fetus
Such incredible rock. This is what rock is all about.
This is METAL I hate when people call metal rock
@@tincan8461 you do realize Metal is just another sub-genre of Rock, right?
I cant understand it...this what is Metallica doing is not human...they are sent by the God -->Some of their songs are so full of energy when i hear em i wanna run a maraton...and others are so nice and peaceful..almost make me cry
fucking super incredible this song
Entirely!
One of my favorite songs off this album! Sounds similar to here comes revenge from hardwired to self destruct
Older bands that are still being listened to now are the ones that were really good. Ten years from now, only the good bands from now will still be listened to.
When this first came out I hated it because it wasn't what I was expecting after the black album but now I think it's probably their best album funny how time changes ones perspective
I listen to, and love almost all of metallica's stuff, their early thrash and speed metal work, their blues metal work, their garage metal metal work, and now deatth magnetic. ANd even though i've said all this, i kno i'll still be flamed for sayin this is my favorite metallica album. It just hooks me in. I like ALL the songs in this album, and personally its my favorite album period....
This album and more likely this song are underrated af
Wow probably one of my favorite songs of this album with bleeding me and until it sleeps !!!
Soooooooooo Insanely under-rated :(
Why doesn’t this have over 2 mill views? It’s only just almost at 1 mill. Real underrated song this is. The album too. This song is killer. Love the riff. Hell fuckin yeah. I’m a guitarist. I know a lot of shit been playing for a long time. This song, is so fuckin fun to play. The riff is a blast
Daniel Treadwell My favorite songs on this album are.... Until it sleeps, house that jack built, 2x4, thorn within, the outlaw. I love until it sleeps. That’s my favorite on it this album. It’s super easy and Fun to play on guitar also
James played the solo on this and it's one of Metallica's best IMHO. It's not the most fast or technical, but it fits the song beautifully.
I remember buying this album and Celine Dion's album " falling into you". What a great year for music.
i love the way james sings that one part, it just so melodic!
The most overlooked song on the album, from me anyways who had this on cassette, its like the hidden gem of load
That riff on the F#. 2nd fret on the Low E. DAT RIFF. Heavy as fuck.
Honey, you really have a point, but as a person who lived almost the same experiences and sufferences that James did, i can tell you this album, ALL Metallica albums, every song, every line of thme worth MILLIONS.
The motto of my life is "justice for all, but you have to consider the fact that James and the band lifted uo to another level of life, of age, of wisdom.
Anyway, thanks for visiting my profile.
Have a gorgeous night.
Just an amazing song. I loved that song back then, still love it today.
this is my favorite album of them, i listened to it a lot in my teenage years
This song has one of the coolest riffs! cha cha cha na na naaa!
Awesome song
BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!
I still can't believe that Metallica has never played this song live. To me this is another one of their underrated songs
These guys will never be outdated
this is just marvelous...pure magic and metal
one of my favorite things about the song is that little chug during the riff it adds some depth to the song and its just awesome this song kicks EVERYBODYS ASS!!!! METALLICA RULES ALL!!!!!!
Ain't my bitch, 2x4, The House Jack Built, Until it Sleeps, King Nothing, Bleeding Me, Wasting my Hate, Mama Said, Thorn Within, Ronnie, Outlaw Torn. All these songs are great and some of them are masterpieces, like Until It Sleeps, Bleeding Me and Outlaw Torn.
Load is quite possibly Metallica's best album. It is absolutely their creatively best album. 11 great songs in an album and at least three masterpieces. Mama Said also can be considered a masterpiece.
Load is their most creative album for sure.
As I get older I learn to appreciate Load and Reload more and more. Haven't heard this song in about a decade. Back then I didn't think much of it, now it fucking rocks!
every album Metallica comes out with is badd ass !!! Rock on
Oh and I started appreciating this song. I used to overlook it and now that I am listening to it I have NO IDEA why or how I managed to do that. It's so good it's chilling.
Metallica + alice in chains= thorn within
im only 17, so i wasn't around during the early years of metallica, but i already love them, and there hasn't been a day in 5 weeks so far that i haven't listen to at least 4 different metallica songs, and most of them replayed multiple times :D
Heavy Epicnesss
I love the oldskool metallica rifts in this song
Your right this is great music I hope more young people can appreciate this.
Awesome
The principal special thing with metallica is that every song , every album are different from each other
As a fan up to & including Justice I've never to this day been comfortable with the Black album. But Load: loved it straight away. Music is weird like that!
one of their most underated songs imo.
great song
i like this song. its so heavy. it packs a punch
Load/Reload had some of the best intros in the business
My favorite on Load, I love the solo in it
Yes, this song is really good.

One of the most underrated songs...The solo is short but amazing
Every Album is great!
best song from load
BEST SONG ON LOAD!!!
Sick memories to this song ! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
original and interesting, I love it
Kirk's guitar was plugged to his heart, so much passion and emotions in that solo!
That solo is actually played by James (left side speaker).
@@lanmetal Both James and Kirk soloed on Thorn Within. The first solo with volume swell is James, second solo with bottleneck is Kirk, third outro solo is James.
@@anahowana 3 solos?? I only hear 1 (main) solo; the one played during the break at the middle section. That's James. Unless you're also counting licks, fills and other stuff. Otherwise, yeah, there's only one (again, main) solo throughout the song.
