A lot of fans have issues with the Jacob's. I'm not one of them. I'm glad this team is still family owned and not owned by a corporation. I don't agree with all of their decisions, but I wouldn't change anything with ownership.
Bullshit. Google Delaware North! For context, I have been watching the B's since the Orr/Espo days. When ownership's ONLY goal ever -- even in the post cap era -- is to JUST MAKE THE PLAYOFFS (for the additional Jacobs'-owned parking and concession revenue) rather than win the cup, FANS who want to see championships take issue. The horrid IRONY is that NOBODY knew this better than Neely and Sweeney, who, as players, labored on teams that were ALMOST good enough -- just a second scoring line away from competing with the Gretzky/Messier Oilers and the Lemieux/Jagr Penguins. But in the late 80s, early 90s PRE cap era, Jacobs would NEVER spend the extra money on a scorer or two to put them over the top. Why should he? He got the same money whether they won the cup or lost it (TWICE). Sure, in 2011 -- 39 years after the last cup, he took the win, smiled, and enjoyed it. But when your franchise's goal is NOT to win the cup, you don't win it. Welcome to the B's reality of the last 44 years. Jeremy Jacobs IS Monty Burns. Hockey's fine, but all Jacobs cares about is the bottom line. And the minute Neely and Sweeney miss the playoffs two years in a row, they'll be gone. So F the Jacobs' family.
The sons are just like their father; it is not really about winning Cups it is about making money off a loyal fan base and they are smart about obfuscating the truth that concession sales are paramount not titles. The season is classic Jacobs Family obfuscation - spend money on Swayman, Lindholm and Zadorv, and spin it as a Cup investment to keep fans coming to TD Bank and buying beers and hotdogs, Delaware North's core business, instead of allowing Sweeney to gut the team and acquire drafts picks to build a new core. Neely learned as a player that Jacobs put profits ahead of Cups when the father refused to spend money to bring in enough talent for Neely to win the 87 & 89 finals against the Oilers.
Any notion that the Bruins should be doing anything but at least trying some sort of re-tool is just ludicrous based on how this team has played for a calendar year now, how flawed their big club roster is and how truly terrible their prospect pool and farm system are This year’s Boston Bruins 8-14-1 vs playoff teams 3-6-1 in their last 10 games 24th in goal differential 22nd Penalty Killing 30th Powerplay 24th 5x5 scoring -One of the NHL’s worst Farm System for a decade -Farm System is currently ranked 30th to dead last and 32nd EVERYWHERE -Flawed big club roster that clearly lacks sufficient forward scoring talent while also having the lowest scoring D-Corps in the NHL -This year the Bruins have one of the worst 5x5 offenses and Power Plays in the NHL while they also have been basically .500 overall and well below .500 vs playoff teams -Last year from January to May the Bruins were one of the worst 5x5 offensive teams in the NHL, they have one of the worst power plays and 5x5 offenses in the league, the played .500 overall and well below .500 vs playoff teams That’s a full calendar year of the Bruins showing everyone exactly who they are. A team that is in desperate need of an influx of talent, whether that talent comes from the draft, via trades or free agency Once you get past Lysell, Merkulov and Dean Letourneau the Bruins don’t have a single forward that projects as a Top 6 player And not a single of those guys would hold much, if any, value to any other NHL GM. Instead, all three would just be thrown in players in a larger types of deals Their next group of prospects at forward such as Farinacci, Duran, Spicer, Locmelis, Kuntar, Harrison, Pelosi, Walsh,,, Each and every last one of those guys is a 3rd-7th round prospect that projects as low event, bottom 6 player, IF, they were to reach their ceilings and that’s a BIG IF At defense it’s even worse in terms of prospects for the Bruins as there is nothing in PVD that’s ready to contriture at the NHL level in a full time role And every single D- prospect the Bruins have in their minor league system is a late round, 4th-7th round draft pick that has a limited chance of even making it to the NHL based on historical NHL draft metrics Don Sweeney. Well, he’s drafted a gaggle of d-men in rounds 3-7 since he became GM in 2015. Do you know who the NHL games played leader is drafted by Don Sweeney in the 3rd-7th round since 2015? Um, NO ONE Not a single d-man Don Sweeney has ever drafted in the 3rd-7th rounds has played a single NHL shift Do you know who the games played leader at forward is drafted by Don Sweeney in rounds 3-7? It’s Jacob Lauko and his lousy 89 games with Boston before moving on to MIIN So based on Don Sweneey’s own draft results in rounds 3-7, over 10 YEARS, it sure seems like we shouldn’t expect much from any forward or d-an Sweeney drafts in rounds 3-7. At the big club level they still lack a 1C because all Elias Lindholm is a good 2C, not a 1C Brad Marchand is a good player. At 37 he’s not a real NHL 1LW anymore Neither Brazeau nor Geekie are Top 6 players and they both are playing wing in their Top 6 regularly Zacha is wing on his best day as he’s done nothing but fail as a Top 6 center Charlie Coyle is a good, defense first 3C that has no business being a Top 6 anything and his 4 lousy assist on the year and his career playoff stats more than prove that The rest of the big club roster at forward is nothing but a bunch of bottom 6 players, some of which are adequate in their roles, others not so much and not one of them, a reliable scorer The Bruins still have a decent core and most of their defense is locked up and under contract for the most part for the next several years as is Jeremy Swayman If they could make a few decent hockey trades to add some assets at this year’s deadline, free up some Cap Space for next year and do well this upcoming off season, the Bruins could easily be Cup competitive again fairly quickly However, if the Jacobs actually let Don Sweeney piss away even more of this team’s future chasing what will clearly be yet another round playoff exit this Spring….. He should be sued for malpractice by this entire team’s fanbase Sweeeny has had 10 years as GM and here are his accomplishments -8 of 9 years failed to win more than 1 playoff round & you know this year it’s going to be 9 of 10 years -ONE, lousy 2nd round series win in 10 years as GM, ONE!!! And that single one was back in 2019 -One of the NHL’s worst farm systems for a decade where it’s currently ranked 30th to 32nd and dead last in the league EVERYWHERE!!! -Cap Jail -Flawed big club roster that he spent $160M in free agent dollars on last off-season -Flawed big club roster that since January of 2024 (a calendar year now) has played .500 overall, well below .500 vs playoff teams while also having one of the NHL’s worst 5x5 offenses and power plays as well There is nothing about this year’s Bruins team that says they should “add” at the deadline Instead, the Bruins should be selling off some of their pieces in an effort to at least take a shot at a short-term re-tool but if they don’t do it now… That short-term re-tool is likely to turn into a 5-7+ year rebuild because this team needs an injection of talent desperately and they lack the resources internally to do much about it right now Letting Don Sweeney piss away even more of their assets this year won’t lead to a Cup this Spring. Instead, all that will do is empty the cupboard more and ensure that the Bruins are even that much further away from their next Stanley Cup
Congratulations on 50 years, a tremendous milestone and accomplishment! With the utmost respect, as respectable as our management is there needs to be a rock solid road map for the future handful of seasons. Push the players harder if a change in management isn't the golden ticket, because paying out 8+ mil/yr for players like cheeks isn't it! Make the tough decisions, don't hold back, and bite the bit because right now that's what the team leadership and diehard fans are doing, and it's starting to grind the teeth. Again, Congratulations on 50 years! I hope 50 more are to come! Black 🖤 and Gold 💛 til I'm dead and cold 🧊 !
It’s unsettling that this team hasn’t had a CUP winning team since 2011. As a B’s fan of over 40 years, that’s not acceptable. The Bruins in current state are not cup contenders. Why???
@@jacobjones8542They failed for the 38 years before that, when the brainwashable Boston fans canonized players who would be 4th liners on better teams. Nobody is spoiled in Bruins nation, that’s for sure.

id like to believe them but their "trade picks to sniff 4 games of the playoffs" policy has spoken more, if the jacobs allowed the team to miss the playoffs a couple of seasons for a retool theres a good chance that we're in a better spot right now. Instead the jacobs need the extra money of the two playoff home games more than they care about actually winning the whole thing. If the solution is "in the room" it must be really good at staying hidden
What you are seeing with the bruins is a team running on empty becsuse of YEARS of bad drafts, bad free agent signings, and a core that is no more. Their biggest weakness last year was scoring goals...so they go into the offseason with a ton of cap space and blow it on, wait for it, guys that can't score goals. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD WILL THEY PLEASE FIRE CAM AND HIS MINI ME SWEENEY. The Swayman bungle or the Lindholm signing alone should be grounds for relief of duty.
Trying to be competitive every year has held the team back. Since the salary cap was introduced, the only team to win the cup without a top-4 draft selection was the 2008 Red Wings. Finishing in the middle of the standings and losing in the first two rounds of the playoffs does nothing for Championships except sell a couple more home games.
50 years under Jacobs. One title. That's a FACT. Those are the results. What are we celebrating here?
It's a pleasure to listen to Bob Sweeney talk, with his calm, yet substantial manner.
