Well, I did it! My 6-year old son Rennen was getting to the point where he was asking more than the Yamaha PW50 was able to give. At a recent trip to Pax Trax motorcross track here in Florida - which has an epic peewee track - Rennen told me "dad, the PW just can't clear the jumps and it's not fast enough". Ok, noted. So now what?
I'd been lusting after the Husqvarna EE5 since it was released but needed to know more about it's longevity and trust that the bike was not just a marketing tool to tout being the first to market. I joined a Facebook group to monitor the posts and see if anyone was having issues with theirs - which there were very few (if any) reports of problems - and asked a few questions to reassure myself the bike was reliable. Everything checked out and people were loving them, so the only thing holding me back was that $5400 price tag! That's a big pill to swallow for a kids bike!
I had a 2015 Cobra JR for Rennen for him to upgrade to when this time came, and he has ridden it a few times skillfully, but after reading the service manual, I was dreading the maintenance involved in ensuring that bike stayed running. Clutch fluid changes and clutch drive torque checks every two hours (basically after two practice sessions for us), air filter changes after every ride to be safe, the noise (they're LOUD), the heat, and the finicky nature of the high-strung two stroke with things like making sure you're getting air through the radiators, (making training "stop-n-coach" pit stops hurried) and the high-rpm needed to engage the clutch. What it comes down to is that the Cobra is a race bike, not a practice bike, and a practice bike is what we needed more than a race bike at 6-years old!
The KTM/Husky gas powered 50cc race bikes are not much better with maintenance and the aforementioned issues, so what do you do? I was left with two options:
1. Keep Rennen on a PW50 and CRF50 until he was big enough to ride a 65cc race bike, which are less finicky and more reliable. I was afraid this would stunt his growth and keep him from learning advanced techniques. I didn't want to be the reason he wasn't riding to his potential because "dad didn't want to deal with the cost or maintenance of the "next step up" bike"
2. Bite the bullet and get the EE5 electric bike, and get Rennen on the appropriate sized bike at the appropriate age. This would allow him to train more, gain more experience with a bike that can jump, and also a bike that can grow with him (literally) until he's ready for the jump to the 65cc (which is a major jump if they were to go from a PW50 straight to a 65!)
I think the choice was clear, and evident by this video what direction I went. I hope you enjoy this video and be prepared for A LOT MORE CONTENT with the EE5, cause from our time with it so far, IT IS AWESOME! - Авто та транспорт
omg, that first run over the tabletop. Kid's gonna be a pro!!!
Congrats family! Look forward to the content with that little beast!
TONS of content coming!
Sick!! Thanks for sharing!!
My daughter got a fuel powered one for her birthday and its definately not working,
we decided to swap it for an e cycle, Im currently doing the research, thank you for the upload, you helped me a lot, best reg from germany :)
I'm impressed! Great product!
It’s really impressive! Expensive, but one of those things you feel you’re getting your money’s worth out of
Dad of the year goes to.....John5XR! Cool little bike!
Haha, thanks man! This was a bit of a treat to myself because I wanted to avoid the maintenance of the 50cc gas race bikes.
Mega! Pozdrowionka z PL dla Adamczyków :)
These electric dirt bikes are getting cooler and cooler. Honda or Kawi needs to make like a crf110 or klx110L sized version with lots of power and battery longevity.
With the 110 bikes being as popular as they are currently, the "big 4" are being negligent by NOT producing one ASAP! I can't imagine how many they'd sell as most people on 110's are ripping backyard tracks like us. I'd buy one immediately. The KTM group was so smart by focusing their electric effort on the 50cc sized bikes as it's getting kids on their brand from the beginning. Also, I like this bike so much that I've become a fan of KTM/Husky now because of their initiative making this bike what it is. I hate to say it, but I'm afraid any of the big 4 won't be close to making a small electric bike this capable. Not to mention, none of them have a 50cc gas race bike now, only trail/play bikes. The suspension on this bike alone probably costs more than the entire CRF50, and for good reason, it's super legit! Wait till you see the future videos on it where he's getting some good airtime on jumps!
Perfect demo. Ill scroll but how longs the battery last on setting 3 and whats the charge time thanks
That is one cool looking bike! And your son is an awesome rider! Well done training him
Thank you, I appreciate that!
Ol
That's my dream
Hate to tell you this, but it goes faster you know it has mowed three but guess what hate to tell you this pick the seat up like take the seat off turn it upside down and there’s more like two more levels. Yeah cause there’s a there’s a 3+ one there’s a plate 3+2 and it’s called pro like the KTM’s like it’s flip over the seat. It goes even faster so you fought three was fast, it goes even faster
What song at 7:15ish?
mode 3 it did look snappy enough :D
It’s pretty good when he gets out to our bigger track, I’ll be putting tons more videos up showing it. What I like is mode 3 is a little faster than his PW50 and Honda on top speed, with much more torque to pull out of turns. It’s perfect for his transition to a race bike
@@John5XR not hard to see that your son always going to have a bike :) for how long can you ride on it before you need to charge it up again
So far on mode 3 it’ll do 45-minutes to an hour, which is riding pretty aggressively on a track too. For trails, I’d say it would last a bit longer. On the faster modes I believe it’s designed to last about the length of a race, 20-30 minutes
@@John5XR not bad at all
With the lanyard on the left, how are you supposed to pull a tear off?
Good point! Most people just tie the lanyard around the handlebars so the kids don't rip it off accidentally. Defeats the purpose, but without a gas engine or anything to really worry about going out of control, I'm not convinced the kill switch is necessary, but I'm sure KTM had to build it for a safety feature
Is it strong enough for an adult? Asking for a friend..
The sound is all part of the experience though. That would be the hard part to get passed.
Agreed. He'll have plenty of two-stroke goodness when he moves to 65's, but this is the ultimate backyard track bike for us during this "fix-it fast 50's" stage.
Hey I’m in central Florida too! Looking to get my 3yr old into a Stacyc husqvarna 12. Do you think the shop you went to in this video carries those?
Cool! I’m at central Florida Powersports often and have never seen the Husqvarna Stacyc there. They’ll order one for you though, or I know you can get them on Rocky Mountain ATV fairly easily if they’re in stock
Thanks yeah he’s been riding his little strider around and a normal bike with training wheels but I know he would do great on a stacyc. Anywhere in Orlando for young kids to ride? I’ve got a few trails in lake Nona where I live but always looking
Or Kissimmee, St. Cloud area
Stacyc races at motocross tracks are becoming more popular and are usually attached to race weekends as sidebar racing after the days races. As far as any places that are public, the only thing I can think of that would be fun is the pump track and mountain bike park in Orlando. Down by us in St Cloud/Nona there’s nothing I know of, but again don’t really look because we have our backyard setup for it. I’d like to know more about the trails you have around Nona though!
Yeah when I get home I’ll try and get a map of the trails but it’s mostly bike trails On compressed Sea Shells ground that go around Laureate Park. I’ve seen ATVs using them but I know the neighborhood tried to stop that by putting in polls at the entrance. But I’ve also heard there’s some great hiking/biking trails in moss park so they might allow other vehicles too. I got an Super73 RX ebike on its way since that seems like a good fit for my area
Hey what electric atv did you buy for your 4 year old son that lasted 3 years. Let me know! I need to buy one for my 4 year old!
I’d suggest the Razor brand 4-wheelers. They’re basically indestructible and can carry an adult, so it won’t be useless when the kids move onto the next thing
What is the sold?
That’s when we bought it
2022
Looks are deceiving.
I was thinking that wasn't going to be as fast as I thought when going from mode 1 to mode 3.
Yeah, mode 1 is like a fast walk next to it speed, 2 like a jog, 3 is 34mph! Lol
Buying a bike for your kid is cool... making him wear a muzzle... not so much.
Education is a rare commodity huh bro?
@@m747hvy6 Making children wear masks for a fictitious virus is child abuse. If you are too dim to figure out that germ theory is a fraud and the air isn't going to kill you then maybe just focus on yourself rather enforce your feeble thibking onto your kids. And get a petrol bike.
