I live in Northern Wisconsin “ Musky capital of the US. I would love to fish with him I am sure he has forgotten more about Muskys than I ever knew. Really wasn’t try to insult him, just wanted to see sum fish hits , fights and landings.you a lucky fella to get to fish with a master like that. It truly is amazing how those types of fisherman can catch fish almost at will.
Can't express how much I respect what he was saying about taking care of fish. As an avid fishermen I always try to hook up before a gut hook and always release the large fish. Many people dont understand fishing and how fish impact the ecosystem. This was a very informative video for those of you. Kudos
I’ve caught a 44” musky with no hooks. Hardest thing was being patient while they swallow the sucker. Then you follow them until very close to boat and pull up firmly and have the net ready. Felt great after cutting the double loop leader and letting the fish go unharmed and fed!
Haven't done any muskie fishing, but I'm from MN. Great fishing state. I heard West Battle lake is great for muskie and large pike. Love your videos. Sending love from Minnesota!
You gotta give him a minute then when time is up set that hook. Every musky man knows that. Me and my fishing partner caught 21 muskies last Sept 2020 on a Wisconsin river. Biggest on was 52 inches under 5 mins with sucker in the water.. We caught at least 50 suckers all week by a near creek. We saved at least 600 dollars on catching our own suckers. The best size from my experience Muskie suckers is 12 to 14 inches.
Awesome video and that rig is called bridling your bait. You can even use this rig for flatheads using bluegills. As always happy fishing and tight lines.
I wish I could tell you what episode it was. But! Larry Dhalberg did a segment about "no hook" musky fishing on his show (Hunt for big fish). Several years ago.
I fished with a balloon off the southern coast of Crete Island, the wind mostly blows so that the balloon goes away from the shore and out to sea. That way I could get my bait far out. The problem is....if the balloon gets lost, the environment loses. So one has to be careful.
Up here in Maine I fish topwater all summer long and just slay the smallmouth but over the last 5 years the northern pike have been taking over. They have almost taken over a lot of our southern lake and rivers.
How is the hookless method safe for the fish? If they swallow a live sucker, wouldn't you be essentially pulling on their stomach lining/esophagus to get them in?
I never caught a Muskie and this is a great vid for tips. But I’ve caught plenty of pike and they seem more aggressive then what you described them. Maybe it’s just where I live idk
My buddy Billy Davis (Melton Hill Bill) fished with Larry Dahlberg and was featured in some of his videos (Hunt for Big Fish, 2012 being one). They caught some nice fish too!
Panfish I live in tn as well, if you can find the right little creeks you can walk them with cast net and catch all the suckers you want, not all creeks have them but the creeks with sustained 3 to 8 ft of water usually do around my area
If memory serves me right...I don't think we turned on the gas motor. We had the trolling motor on the entire time. I'm not from the area so I really can't give you a definite answer.
No gas motors on any of the inner city lakes. Only trolling motors with a certain amount of thrust. It sucks, but then again it allows you to enjoy fishing. On some of the other lakes where gas motors are allowed it can get crowded with the recreational and pleasure boaters.
Ill always run A live sucker under the boat while casting for at least 2-3 hours. If i dont draw any hungry fish to the boat w moving lures at least i can say i tried :-D I def need to invest in a decent line counter reel! I watched a 46" hit a 8" sucker under the boat after following a shadzilla + hawg collar. We fought it all the way to the net only to realize the ski was never hooked lol
This video says FISHING for muskie with 15" sucker minnows under a balloon. Not CATCHING muskies on 15" sucker minnows under a balloon. Lol. I at least learned a new balloon trick instead of wasting money on bobbers..if I decide to try it. Plus some good muskie info. Gotta try to show some love for the fellow Mn fisherman vids.
No hook fighting the fish with its internal organs as the anchor point? that doesnt sound better for the fish at all especially with that fiberglass line cutting it up inside.
I'd rather see him out on the boat and only one fish caught in 12 minutes than watch youtubers who talk for 6 minutes before they even get on the water.
MN Fish Guy, I agree 100% with the big single being a fish killer. However we were using Circle Hooks on the rubber bands. I have used this rig for BIG pike up around Park Rapids MN and never had a deep hook. I pulls out of gullet and gets the corner of the mouth every time on the pike, so I would think that it will do the same on Muskies. I do run Rigs when the water is cold too but the water was so warm that I didn't want to risk a fish getting to aggressive and getting a treble deep.
Jonah Winter sorry if that came off rude, I can definitely tell you know your stuff! If you have high release rates that’s all that matters! The rest of the video was really informative like I mentioned
So this is when you delete the video and try again. Can't prove your point if you don't catch anything... I mean, unless it's meant to be a theory video and peeps already know that before clicking on it. I'm sorry but this time I must agree with those who disliked.
Please post the video with a catch its nice to c and hear how you fish and all but no catch change the title to trying to catch muskie on big live bait lol
Please DO NOT use this method the single hook is a musky killer. Use a quick strike rig better hooking percentage and u don't risk killing fish. No true musky fishermen would do it this way it's absolutely stupid
This guy probably should be a teacher or talk show boast. He talks way too much and seems to enjoy the sound of his own voice. Good rule for him to follow would be no fish ; no talk. He would have far less videos and the ones he does have would be watch worthy.
if u are goint to use live bait dont buy them from a shop or catch them in another water.. it could contaminate the fish in the lake ur fishing in... best u catch ur own live bait in the same water or atleast not far from where ur going to fish at.
Muskie ends today! Jonah is full of knowledge, always fun to fish with him.
Very informative!
Set the hook

I still hope to catch my first musky one of these days, lol.
Haven't done any muskie fishing, but I'm from MN. Great fishing state. I heard West Battle lake is great for muskie and large pike. Love your videos. Sending love from Minnesota!
Thanks, Dalton!
Try Lake Miltona.
I'm moving from Fairbanks AK to grand rapids MN on sunday can't wait for the fishing
Cool. Good luck!
Why? Tangle lakes Pike, Paxon lake trout, salcha and goodpastor grayling....prepare to be disappointed with fishing in the lower 48!
Hahaha thats why everyone from Michigan comes to northern ontario to fish, because theyve over fished there own lakes.
You gotta give him a minute then when time is up set that hook. Every musky man knows that. Me and my fishing partner caught 21 muskies last Sept 2020 on a Wisconsin river. Kinda wish you would tell us you didnt catch one from the beginning
Even though you guys didn't have any luck catching a Muskie I think the video was very informative and still a lot of fun to watch
Thanks for watching!
yep that's why it's called fishing. if it was easy and we got fish all the time it'd be called catching.
Thank you, such a novel idea . Musky fishing with no hook
Awesome video and that rig is called bridling your bait. You can even use this rig for flatheads using bluegills. As always happy fishing and tight lines.
Thanks for watching!
I wish I could tell you what episode it was. But! Larry Dhalberg did a segment about "no hook" musky fishing on his show (Hunt for big fish). Several years ago.
I've done the "no-hook" method. I still go with a quick-strike rig. This single circle hook stuff is garbage.
1:43 “lets that circle hook sick on the *minnows* head.”
What size minnows do you have
I fished with a balloon off the southern coast of Crete Island, the wind mostly blows so that the balloon goes away from the shore and out to sea. That way I could get my bait far out. The problem is....if the balloon gets lost, the environment loses. So one has to be careful.

Wow!
William these folks wouldn’t enjoy the take our game wardens have on the pike up this way...some say kill em all..
Northern pike are great eating. You should feel blessed.
great vid, very good technique, called bridling the bait,, anglers do it florida for sailfish and marlin
Cool! Thanks for watching!
bent rodguy
Small world huh!
What about a 20+ inch sucker will you stay away from the pike more and get musky more often or still get pike with giant suckers
Just depends on the day I guess
How is the hookless method safe for the fish? If they swallow a live sucker, wouldn't you be essentially pulling on their stomach lining/esophagus to get them in?
I never caught a Muskie and this is a great vid for tips. But I’ve caught plenty of pike and they seem more aggressive then what you described them. Maybe it’s just where I live idk
Pike are aggressive. I caught some nice ones up in Canada one summer.
Beautiful landscape & I agree, take care of the fish
Minnesota your in right? Great place for fishing tho!
Yep Minnesota.
Awesome video! Ive pulled a few from underneath them sailboats!
Awesome!
Well that's 12 minutes of my life I'll never get back!
Travis Hopkins 😥
Where you get them., oh wait our river in llano has them, we use round back , good for flathead catfish
I love catching flatheads!
Fish of a thousand casts. They say...But every predater has its weak moment. Right place right time...and a decent, even half decent presentation
Hoping to get my first muskie soon!
I like his take on releasing the biggest, smartest fish... may God reward him.
Jonah is a good guys and awesome fish guide.
Look at that beautiful calm water. That’s glassy.
Wish I could find a good source of suckers here in Tennessee! Great video as always! I learned something new on the video with that cool rig.
My buddy Billy Davis (Melton Hill Bill) fished with Larry Dahlberg and was featured in some of his videos (Hunt for Big Fish, 2012 being one). They caught some nice fish too!
Thanks, Billy!
Panfish I live in tn as well, if you can find the right little creeks you can walk them with cast net and catch all the suckers you want, not all creeks have them but the creeks with sustained 3 to 8 ft of water usually do around my area
Try pieces of night crawler on ultra light tackle with a 64th split shot in warmer moving creek waters.
What's your rod and reel for musky
I can't remember. This wasn't my tackle.
Is that lake Calhoun?
Lake Harriet
@@ChattCats ohhhh that’s right, I used to live up there and my buddy and I used to fish the surrounding lakes
Lake Harriet allows gas motors?
If memory serves me right...I don't think we turned on the gas motor. We had the trolling motor on the entire time. I'm not from the area so I really can't give you a definite answer.
No gas motors on any of the inner city lakes. Only trolling motors with a certain amount of thrust. It sucks, but then again it allows you to enjoy fishing. On some of the other lakes where gas motors are allowed it can get crowded with the recreational and pleasure boaters.
Tuned in!!!💯💪👊LET'S GO!!! Keep up the Awesome vids
Thanks man! Tight lines!
Where do you buy those minnows?
I don't know. I'm not from the area. I assume a bait/tackle shop in the Minnesota area.
Ill always run A live sucker under the boat while casting for at least 2-3 hours.
If i dont draw any hungry fish to the boat w moving lures at least i can say i tried :-D

does Jonah have a fishing channel
Not sure...
awesome Video !
Thanks, Scott!
Caught a 3 ft muskie today with a balloon and a 6" yellow perch. Balloons are great
That's great!
Very nice
Thanks, Ralph!
What did you call the city? Lol
Lol.
In Missouri from September 15 to January 15 sucker is the number 1 fish we eat it’s probably my favorite fish to eat
Only in Minneapolis Minnesota love this state born and raised
FISH ON!!
What’s Minnenapolis? lol
Irrational Kid I heard that too, was like huh?
great video very cool rig.
Thanks, Matt!
Nice video but wrong time of the year for that type of fishing especially that lake. I wouldn't have even fished there on a day like that.
This video says FISHING for muskie with 15" sucker minnows under a balloon. Not CATCHING muskies on 15" sucker minnows under a balloon. Lol. @@ChattCats You got it bud!! Happy Holidays!!

I live around that lake
Cool! It's a nice area.
You can use two rods in lake superior in mn
So boring hate when they don't catch anything and just talk for 20 minutes. Waste of my life
I thought it was very informational.
ADD?
I'd rather see him out on the boat and only one fish caught in 12 minutes than watch youtubers who talk for 6 minutes before they even get on the water.
nice tips, like
Thanks for watching!
We use 20 inch for 46-50+
cool vid i learned alot
I learned a lot too! Very informative.
don't listen to all this hate that was a dope vid
It's all good. That's muskie fishing.
nice dear
Why so many dislikes good vid
Probably because no muskie were caught, haha. That's muskie fishing though.
Thanks for watching!
Wow
Melton hill in back yard has some trophy
Totally agree! I have seen some monsters there and caught some too!
Quick strike rigs, a single hook is a Fish killer, otherwise this guy was very informative.
Thanks for watching!

You're a good dude.
Just hearin this guy talking like he knows everything
He knows a lot.
Ugh, I have to read the comments to see you didn't catch anything before I waste time watching guys sit around talking to each other!!
I fished that same method and caught a 54 niche Muskie
Awesome catch!
Minnesota muskie at it's best cheers from Minnesota
Thanks for watching, Brian!
Brian Conroy ..........NORTH IDAHO HAS SOME OF THE BIGGEST MUSKY ILL CHALLENGE ANYONE ON A FISH OFF
A muskie video without a muskie caught. I wasted my time watching this.
Muskie fishing is tough. Sometimes it's not just about catching fish but learning new things along the way...
So this is when you delete the video and try again. Can't prove your point if you don't catch anything... I mean, unless it's meant to be a theory video and peeps already know that before clicking on it. I'm sorry but this time I must agree with those who disliked.
Lol that’s musky fishing sweetheart. Finally a video where real shit happens and not a 3 day show acting like one
i learned a few things from this video. you dont need to see a catch to learn something
You call live bait on a balloon fishing?
It works!
Wait? Larry dalburg like whopper plopper Larry dalburg??
I think so.
Please post the video with a catch its nice to c and hear how you fish and all but no catch change the title to trying to catch muskie on big live bait lol
We did get one pike.
My personal thoughts,is the baits are just to huge. Most of this fish would rather hit a 6 inch bait, than a 15 inch bait. But that's just my thoughts.
Not true. Studies have shown that large size suckers are eaten less often, however make up the largest percentage of their nutrition.
54 inches is the new minimum in Minnesota. FYI
Hey thats my lake
Cool. Lots of nice fish in there.
Stay glassy northeastern United States.
too hot to use suckers wait til fall
Thanks for the tip!
That rubber band thing, dont do that it probably wont pass well lol
minneapolis chain, man u coulda went to a better spot like say minnetonka, white bear for metro area, rookie move
srsly!
Big lake big bait fish big fish

dont think you want to be on a boat with a guy named Jonah, just saying.
Lol.
No fish. Just education.
Miny napolis HAHAHAH
Lol.
15”.....ha!
Wasted 12 minutes of my life
Was informative though
If they used british methods, and tackle, they would empty that lake.

Hi Tom! Jonah is an experienced angler and full of great knowledge. Musky fishing requires a lot of patience. I had a great time and learned a lot!
No fish, no like. 😉
That's muskie fishing for ya, lol.
No fish !!!! Onto Next video
Catch your own bait.
You should not use suckers as bait you should use Cisco I caught a 64 inch Muskie on a cisco
Get rid of those clips lol
Fish more , talk less
Lame
Fishing is not always about catching fish but learning some new things along the way.
Literally didn’t catch anything why put out a video
Sometimes it's jut not about catching fish but learning new things along the way...
Horror
Kind of stupid using suckers big
Muskies hit big baits!
Live baiting is cheating
I call them natural swimbaits ;-)
