My INDIGO dye experiments last summer result in many new craft projects! At least 4!

  • I was well on my way to making yards and yards of beautiful indigo dyed fabric last summer and then I got ill! I ended up in hospital, my kids took over the channel for a little while and I slowly got back to some sort of health. (though not yet completely)
The project I had hoped to offer to you all in October last year had to be shelved and now offered in a restricted way. But here it is none the less!
I loved re-editing this video for you and seeing the garden in all it's summer splendour!
The kits I made are now available in the shop, plus some scrap packs and you'll find them here.
    www.thelasthom...
The DOG, the Stained Glass Effect Panel and the Pojagi Style Panel, are all the things I made with the fabric. You can make whatever you like with yours!
The quilt I made over on Patreon is the Courthouse Steps block and I dyed all the fabric for that from the deepest blue to very pale indeed. It was a huge amount of fun! It is available to watch straight away at the $20 tier, as are all of last year's Alongs and will be part of the 'reposting' series for the $10 tier a little later in the year.
Check all of that out here
    / thelasthomelyhouse
Also - the March Catchup has just gone live for the $5 tier ... something for everyone over on Patreon!
I have created an Indigo Craft Playlist with all the examples of the things I made here
    • Indigo Craft
Not all of these projects are indigo dyed fabric, but the items can be made with the kits on sale in the shop.
    Thank you for watching.
    Take care
    Love
    Kate

One of my favorite things about any project you share with us is that you explain that "this is the way I do it" or "this is what works for me" which leaves the impression of: just because everyone's way may be different, it doesn't mean it's wrong! I love that!

    • @wendywilson1736

I agree!! There are so many folks out there who think their way is the only way, or "this is the way I learned it, so it must be The way to do it"
There is more than one way to do just about every craft, and other things. Plus, many folks are afraid to experiment, and try different ways to do something. They expect specific instructions to do something, and think those instructions is the Only way to do something!

At our Creative Fibre group we have regular Dye Days and have an indigo bath for everyone to bring anything to be dyed. There are tshirts, aprons, fabric and wool and it’s so exciting to see the dye develop from green to indigo. The items get paler and paler as the dye bath exhausts.

“Having a go” at something different and interesting would make life better for so many people who stick to only what they already know. Imagine the first people to dye with indigo. If they never tried something different we wouldn’t have indigo dyes.

The poem…The Gingham Dog and the Calico Cat…inspired a dog pillow and kitty made by my grandmother for my older sister and we all played with them..only the Gingham Dog has survived. Not bad considering we are all in our late 60’s and early 70’s. The Gingham Dog was green gingham with a black button eye!

I never realized they would come out green, then turn blue! I love to sew, and use hand dyed, and batik fabrics. But, I will leave the dying to others.😏 I have a sensitive respiratory system, and I probably have enough going on just being close to the fabric, thread bits, and whatever dust comes from quilting. They are beautiful, though!!
