  • A relaxed companionable dip into quilts and books about quilts, as Anne and I visit the current exhibition: "Kaffe Fassett: The Power of Pattern" (in Edinburgh).
We also visit the artbooks section in the great Christian Aid Book Sale (a fixture in Edinburgh) each May for over 50 years. There's an inspiring couple of libraries within the Central Library (a public library) and then we stroll to Dovecot Galleries for the Kaffe Fassett exhibition.
**For added delight, after you've viewed my short video, take a peek at quilter ‪@MaryFons‬ UA-cam video walkthrough the same exhibition as it appeared (6 months ago) in London.
    • Walk the Kaffe Fassett...
It's a larger exhibition (in London's Museum of Fashion and Textiles) and takes 1 hour 20 mins to walk round.
You'll see different angles on some of the standouts from our tour and, of course, additional thoughts. I enjoyed Mary's comment on seeing the multi-starred quilt: "Now that's a quilt!". As we also noted, it draws you in.**
Further 'reading' a great behind-the-scenes hang-out ‪@ScottFortunoff‬ with Kaffe, Brandon Mably and quilter Liza Lucy in her quilting studio, showing the quilts that began their company, with work in progress, including the part-pieced large star quilt (recorded 4 years ago) at:
    • FB LIVE - THIS IS THE ...
Kaffe's exhibition covers quilting, fabric pattern design and needlepoint cushions. Anne is wearing a Kaffe Fassett designed handknit top. An artist friend of ours couldn't visit the collection but bought the accompanying book and finds inspiration on every page.
Do check out Kaffe Fassett books to buy or at your local library. For quilters, there are seasonal releases of their new printed fabrics.

I'm delighted you enjoyed it. Exhibitions are such fleeting things, yet so much work goes into making them. It's good to have at least part of the experience recorded by video.

Wonderful video. Fond memories of when I use to work in the public library as a student

I'm delighted you enjoyed it! It's such a wonderful collection of separate reading spaces: the well-stocked general library, a funky little one for kids, the art library at the top and of course the huge reference library in between. I wonder if you had a favourite.

Those quilts are gorgeous! I genuinely gasped at some of them. What a lovely, peaceful vlog. I actually taught myself to quilt using Quilts, Quilts, Quilts!

I'm so pleased that you enjoyed the quilts and delighted at your comment on how you found the vlog. I do feel like vlogging an exhibition gives everyone a chance to see it in some form, for those of us not living nearby. I know I have so enjoyed art exhibitions put online by other people - ones thousands of miles away and in the past. You are way ahead of me on the actual quilting, I can't yet quilt but the urge is growing. I recommend the channel "Quilt Nerd" for jawdropping displays of quilts on UA-cam.

Wow those quilts are incredible. So much work and skill. The colours are stunning. I inherited a nearly finished patchwork quilt that my Great Grandmother was working on. It's just made from fabric scraps so it's rustic. I love the heritage and tradition of quilting. Lovely video seeing current artwork in this field.

I hope you'll be inspired to finish the quilt? The pattern on fabrics are usually very specific to that time period, so there is a whole history in it. Finished or unfinished, one to display (away from direct daylight which will fade it) and enjoy.

Amazing colour combinations, I’m really looking forward to the exhibition in Stockholm.

Fantastic! I'm sure it will be much larger. You'll find in my writeup that I watched a video of the same titled exhibition in London and that had FAR more content. It's worth looking at, too.

exactly! a surround experience. I think it was the same in the London show, which was bigger. You'll find some other vids recommended in the notes for this video:-)

That first quilt in the Kaffe Fassett exhibit, a modern take on NY Beauty using stripes...does it appear in any of Kaffe Fassett's books?

Aaaah. I went back to my footage and paused the video as I walked past the quilt description. The first quilt (which has my friend looking at it) is called "Sunburst" and was made by Karen Stone around 1987. It's a variation on "New York Beauty". I hope you can trace it from that.
