- Special Vehicle Team, also known as SVT, is an arm of Ford Motor Company responsible for the development of the company's highest-performance vehicles. SVT is the successor to the SVO division. The current SVT Director is Hermann Salenbauch. SVT was previously led by Hau Thai-Tang (2004-2007) and John Coletti (199X-2004).
The group mainly produces specially tuned versions of Ford production vehicles such as the 2010 F-150 SVT Raptor which is based on the F-150 pickup, and the Shelby GT500, which was based on the Mustang. However, they do occasionally develop models independently of the rest of the company, namely the GT supercar (developed in conjunction with Saleen).
They brought Carroll Shelby to Dearborn to meet the press and talk about the rebirth of the Shelby Mustang.

Not only great looking my 08 gt500 ran a 9.77 at 144mph and that makes the car very fast.

Could you imagine all of the race legends and car people who've passed before sitting talking cars and Mr Shelby enters the room. Porsche, Ferrari, Ford etc. you know the room would silence in respect. Then the stories and memories and ideas you'd hear.

BACK IN 07 WHEN THIS CAR CAME OUT LOL DEALERSHIPS WERE MARKING THEM UP AT LEAST 20 GRAND AND AS MUCH AS 30GRAND OVER STICKER AND I WANTED A 07 GT500 BUT I COULDNT AFFORD ONE BUT MANY YEARS LATER LOL I HAVE A 08 GT500 ALONG WITH 2 SUPER SNAKES AND MY 07 SHELBY GT.
Legands Never Die. RIP Carrol Shelby your legacy lives on. I just wish he could drive the new GT500 and the new GT350R. He would be so proud.

I own a 2012 SHELBY GT-500 & not only, sadly enough, he passed in 2014, he did not get to Sign my Dashboard. But, I am Way More than happy to own it & yes, it’s my main car, drive it daily, is Well taken care of, modified & Never driven in the rain ‼️🤠✔️🏎…💥💯🇺🇸

MY 07 427 EDITION CONVERTABLE SUPER SNAKE HAS HIS SIGNATURE AND MY 08 GT500 HAS HIS SIGNATURE TWICE LOL I AM VERY LUCKY TO HAVE HIS SIGNATURE AT ALL AND ACCORDING TO SHELBY AMERICAN HIS SIGNATURE ADDS ANYWHERE FROM 3 TOO 5 THOUSAND DOLLARS TOO THE VALUE OF THE SHELBY LOL I HAVE 4 SHELBYS IN MY COLLECTION AND AT LEAST I HAVE HIS SIGNATURE ON 2 OF MY 4 SHELBYS.

They made well over 500 horsepower when they came out 😎
They were rated 500 they dyno 420-470 depends on the dyno weather it's stingy or a happy dyno and what the temp is since it's forced induction. They easily met their performance goals which is why they restricted this car so much. They gain 100-150+ rwhp easily with simple bolt ons and just an intake and tune gives them 80 rwhp. This was so they could easily "upgrade" it in later years giving them more power making the later ones seem "better" which is exactly what they did. Fbo vs fbo 07-12 make the exact same power and when they have the same blower and supporting mods they make comparable power to even 13-14. They kept doing minor stuff to the intake and tune to give them more power in later years then people would see fbo 2012s making the same power as fbo 2007s and people said why they start out 50 hp ahead? I mean the older ones are just more restricted and gain more from mods and end up in the same place in the end. They held the early ones back because they over shot their power goals even with it being restricted this enabled those easy "upgrades" in later years.
After having 3 Saleen mustangs, I traded in my Dodge Challenger srt8 6.4 for this exact car. Same color 07 year license was SNNNAKE only had 750 miles on it when someone traded it in for a ZR1. Car was beautiful . Later I bought a Z06 to go with this. Had to sell them both because I went broke due to poor money handling. I miss my GT 500. Only had 23,000 miles on it when I sold it to Car Max. This Shelby was beautiful Red with white stripes. No comparison to the Saleen Mustangs. This was a classy and fast car. I also had 2 Ford lightnings.

@@coryboy345 it is it's solid but these cars came with a tr6060 which was the next generation of t56 essentially.

If this is the 2007 Shelby GT500, I wonder when they changed the Hood Heat Extractors, which looks similar to the 03/04 Hood Heat Extractors, to the smaller ones you mostly see on the S197 07-09 Shelby GT500's!...R.I.P. Shelby and God Bless!
This was a pre production car it was prob changed sometime after this design was never on production cars far as I know.

0:57 so strange to hear him announce it as a Shelby “Cobra” GT500. Cobra is not in the name at all. Did they intend to use the Cobra name or was this a mistake on his part?
Its basically the cobra since 2010ish..whenever they stopped making mustang cobras and went with the shelby gt500/350 name. But these new Shelbys are way over saturated vs the very low production of the original shelby mustangs.

In late 1967 Ford bought the rights to use the name "cobra" from Shelby, and in 1968 the Shelby mustang were called Shelby cobra GT 350 and GT 500.
It was supposed to be the new svt cobra...everyone was waiting for it....then they got carroll on board and used the shelby gt500 name instead but it was basically a 2007 svt cobra so it could have been a mistake or he could have just said that to kinda let ppl know it was like a next generation svt cobra with a different name because at the time everyone was waiting for the new cobra to come since the last svt cobra in 2004. Not sure honestly.
FOR A MODERN DAY MUSTANG THERE REALLY ISN'T AS MANY AS YOU THINK.I HAVE A 07 427 EDITION CONVERTABLE SUPERSNAKE AND IT'S ONE OF 7 BUILT IN TORCH RED AND IT WAS 0NE OF 91 CONVERTABLES BUILT WITH SILVER STRIPES SO AS A 427 EDITION SUPERSNAKE IT'S RARE.THEN MY 10 GRABBER BLUE SUPERSNAKE WAS 1 OF 10 SUPERSNAKES BUILT IN GRABBER BLUE. LOL EVEN MY 07 SHELBY GT IS A RARE CAR.

I said the same but im thinking maybe some of this stuff wasnt ironed out yet when this was filmed. Im not 100% sure but the wheels kinda do look like they have slightly lower profile tires than you normally see on these so its possible those could have been 19 inch versions of the same stype wheel and they later changed and went with 18s. They also may have chosen the tr6060 later as that was the trans they were using in the fr500c race cars of the mid 2000s...at this time it was real early on because they didnt even have the exact hp specs figured out yet. This is all maybes im not 100%on any of this just a thought.
