Building a New Fish Pond Series: • Building a NEW FISH PO...
Lyndon offers both fish stock for ponds of any sort as well as stocked pond fishing, fly fishing, and fishing of any sort for kids to adults. You can book corporate events, or a day with the kids. Lyndon will show you how to clean the fish and even rent you a rod and real. Just show up and fish! www.lyndonfishhatcheries.com.
The fastest way to dig a big pond is to use the help of a qualified excavator. This excavator normally digs out house foundations and the operator has years of experience digging giant holes in the ground and removing mountains of material.
In the previous episode we had Clarke from Lyndon Trout Ponds and Fish Hatchery measure water quality of our fish pond for oxygen and water temperature. This pond was also monitored year round to see if it holds enough water and has the depth the fish need to stay cold. Rainbow trout need good to excellent water quality and plenty of oxygen. Water flow is an asset to help fish spawn. We discovered that the water in our pond is filled continuously with the help of ground water and is very cold, even in the summer. Trout will die if water gets above 25 degrees Celsius. Shade also helps keep water cool and our pond is sheltered for a good part of the day with trees.
You will need to find out what kind of soil you are working with. Is it clay, clay-loam and sandy loam are best for holding water. You will want to avoid limestone, shale, sand and gravel-they leak. Except in our case since the gravel is actually part of the ground water, which is ideal. You can ask around to find out if your pond will leak or will hold water year round. You don't want your pond to dry up in the middle of the summer.
Our plan to excavate the remainder of the pond, pushing the size out to about a half acre in size and a water depth of around 8 feet. 15 feet is more ideal, but our base is shale and therefore can not be dug any deeper.
A trout pond is very difficult to establish, but it is very possible to do correctly if you know what the fish need.
Aeration of the pond is something we will be exploring as we see how the season develops. We are hopeful that water remains cool so dissolved oxygen in the water remains high.
After we dig the pond, we will let is sit for a few weeks before putting our fish in the pond. Ideally you will let the pond sit for a full year, but we are not patient enough for this.

Back in college I knew a loose Lois. She was popular.
😆I’d go visit her😆
Plot twist: she was tight
I knew Lois also!! Small world!!
I think you guys need a third opinion. Hold my beer, I’m going in😆
Wow! Over 100 trout in that pond! You're gonna have to give us regular updates Chris!
Will do!
Deff need updates my buddy had that manny in a bigger pond and still couldn’t keep up with feeding them and with natural food ….. prolly half will die but that’s prolly why he bought so many
Beautiful fish guys! I can't wait to see how the season goes and if Lois and Clark can restock the pond on their own! I'd love to see a family fishing day with the kids 😊 ✌️💚🐖💨
Oh and I also Lmaooooo when Lois smacked the camera as if to say, "Get that thing outta my face and put me back in the water!"
Amazing how far this channel has grown. When I was here this channel wasn't even verified or even have 1 mill subs. Favorite videos was the first survival challenge with Jeremy. The one where they did nothing but suffer.
Looking good Chris. Can't wait to see them thrive in that pristine pond. Good job guys. Peace from England.
Love the adventure with you big kids . You guys are the best of Canadians.
Wow some big trout pond looks great 👍
Jeremy needs to come down for a catch & cook .
Thank You for sharing your video and bringing us along .
Hey, I've really liked following along with the fish pond build, the amount of work it was to build it (And film it all) is wild. It looks great ! Congrats !

Love these pond videos!! Keep em coming!!
Awesome show thank you. Awesome looking trout. Have a great day. Full stop 🛑
That fish sanctuary is wicked cool. Pond’s looking rad. Hopefully the big fish adapt well to the new environment. I don’t hear as much about large fish being introduced. Usually it’s fry. Awesome experiment 🐸🍺🔪🔥
Heck yeah, I've been waiting to see fish in the new pond. Can't wait to see the catch and cooks out of this! Especially the underwater footage!
What a day! Been waiting to see the fish go in the pond for a bit! Hope some spawning goods on!
Awesome to see everything coming together for you guys!
Put some minows to breed ther too, so you create a full habitat!!! Hugs from Brazil!!!

Kool video
Good video, nice fish!
That fishing pond is SPECTACULAR! What a great place to fish. We don't have anything like that around here.
Great place to fish???? lol it’s a stocked pond lol
Pond looks great, almost a night and day difference from last year to now.
Lets just say:
that you is Busy for today.
Pretty, please keep up The Great Work.
Oh man this is awesome!!!! I cant wait for updates!
Looks awesome appreciate y'all 😀
Nice video sharing 😊😊😊
Wow! That was neat!
Great adventures ahead
Oh so good
Full stop, great vid chris!! 👌
Loving the series on the pond! One day I'll build my own! lol
Been waiting for this video. Great stuff Chris
Good morning from Syracuse NY USA brother and everyone else
Awesome series. Hope they do well. Those 2 were huge. There is an endangered cousin of trout named Hucho hucho that gets to 1.5m and 50kg.
ive been watching the , guess re watching the Texes , chalenge love the turtel one
Those are some pretty big trout, they remind me of the redfish here in Florida..lol 😂😅 Hoping that the pond does great for ya'll, get the fish pellets ready! Love what ya'll are doing ❤
i wanna jump on that pond and steal some lol looking awesome, hopefully they soon grown in numbers
How awesome is that!!!
They are some beautiful fish they be good eating 👍🙏🏻
Gorgeous fish! Full Stop
awesome
theres a few fish feeders on twitch thats popular, its fun to watch them eat and knowing you helped, have a look into it if you can get some internet in the ponds vicinity xxx
Finally, no click bait.
Ayoooo pond stocked
You should put crawfish in there for the fish too eat 👍
Drink, or take a bong hit every time he says the fishes names... 😂
I use the Texas hunter feeder 70lb and it’s 100% worth the cash. You absolutely need one if you want your fish to be top notch. You don’t need anything bigger than the 70lb unless you plan on being away from the residence for more than a month
I love watching your videos, where's your son?
Trout Pond!
Yes.
I would be doing some smoking of a few nice trout. Apple wood.
Great stuff as always man, what ever happened with the hide tanning course you and jeremy did? I still think a cool project for you to try next time you catch a beaver or raccoon or hare is to show your complete journey into making a hat or gloves
All the trials/mistakes/learning curves?
Greetings all the way from the UK
lot of fish
Amazing how red the meat it. Is it because of what they feed them?
Remove the guts and cook the fish in tin foil and oil in the oven at 350 for 30 minutes and turn over for 20 minutes and serve hot( remember to Rinse) serve with lemon juice
I thunk you can throw a shoelace in that water and catch supper lol
That's the idea!
Awesome! Please for the luv of gawd, stop using the superman names for the fish. ;) Can't wait to see how this pond progresses.
With the 100+ fish, are you going to do any kind of maggot feeder or automatic feeder this season? and Full Stop!
That's the plan!
Processing a trouth like that looks easy. But following the spine with your knife is way harder then it looks. I still make a mess everytime i try it.
Yes a new videoooooo
I would figure a way to get running water for them
If the pond is constantly being supplied by underground strings, is there a small rivulet runoff?
Yes, 2 underground springs.
@@TheWoodedBeardsman oh that take the excess away? so it doesn't overflow?
Neat.
@@benives254 Correct. It will become seasonally low in mid-summer, then refill as ground water replenishes in fall, spring and winter.
Should of called this fish lois lake no loose lois lol
Hows Lois and Clark doing Chris?
So far, so good!
@@TheWoodedBeardsman good to know
Was fish number 95 a golden?
Nope, all rainbow. But they do have some color variations.
3 pounds the max
Why not keep them over the winter?
We like to skate on the pond, and we can't keep the aerators going or it weakens the ice too much.
I caught a cricket the other day that I thought was pretty huge. 😒
why do you keep stocking this pond when the fish usually die each time?
Consult the playlist. ua-cam.com/play/PLDg2Qmw9pKidyb4i41XtKUhop40BUcL8_.html
I'm surprised any of these fish will make it after the way you handle them on the release
They are rainbow trout, they love that. You should see Clarke toss them in.
Literally sounds like some bad porno names lol
bahaha
Fish... I mean first!
🤣🤣🤣🤣 That is soooooooo funny! All be it kind of like cheating. LOL Truthfully, I have never understood the concept of being "first" to comment. Anyway Congrats Kevin! 🐟
Greetings from the other side of this gem
Sooo will she have time to drop eggs before hunting her down, that would be proof positive that you two were right ( not that naysayers will amid)
She will make eggs, but stocked fish are notorious for not spawning on their own.
There is Christmas stocking, and there is pond stocking
If you want to increase the survivability of your fish, don't keep them out of the water for more than 10 seconds. The less time in the air, the greater their chances.
I wouldn't be surprised if Lois and the other large fish eat a few of their smaller neighbours.
Surprisingly rainbow trout aren't that into other fish. They will though, but not as much as they love to eat bugs, worms, and other smaller critters.
pellet pigggsss
CLARK REALLY BUTCHERED THAT TROUT.
Audio beeping is terrible
Seems you guys need to rent a scuba suit and just sit down on the bottom and film those fish
It's so cold, I'll need a wet suit lol!
That was the most complex trout fileting I have ever seen. There is no need to go thru that whole process🙄🤷♂️
Are you going to post an owl to scare off the birds of prey? Don't take my advice. I'm just guessing.
I haven't noticed any yet, but that's an option. I picked up a blue heron, but then we haven't seen it hanging around this year yet.
Ummm double triple prong barbed hooks?? These fish don't have a chance. Even of you decided not to keep them, they are still dead. Not very sportsman like...just saying
No catch and release permitted at the trout pond. You catch, you keep. Grown for consumption not sport.
On a trout farm you had to use a double treble hook?? That’s really really poor sportsmanship in a lake like that!!!!
Those fish are gonna die
You guys are living my dream tho
They didn't even die last year until a sheet of ice formed over top and the aerator stopped working. We got 2x aeration now from Koenders so we're looking a lot better. And the water is a lot clearer too.
Not even close to 15 lbs.
how many dumb times is he going to say those fishes name? If you turned this into a drinking game and took a shot every time he said those 2 not clever names, halfway through the video, you would have alcohol poisoning. I hope for future video's he might just say the initials or even better, call them the male and female breeder trout like normal people would
Not having the greatest day, are you?
@@TheWoodedBeardsman day's fine thanks for your concern. My concern is what might be wrong with you and if you may have had a previous head injury that causes you to repeat things such as names as much as you do? Saying the name of your livestock as much as you did in this video is a warning sign for dementia, it's due to a disruption of shirt term memory loss. If you have had previous head injuries in your life, you may want to consult a physician. Early detection is the most successful way to battle off dementia. Good luck on your journey and I hope for a smooth transition in your new stage of life.
@@TheWoodedBeardsman SMH Don't waste your time Chris! Some people seem to have difficulty grasping even the simplest of concepts. EVERYONE knows that repetition is the key to success when training new "pets" to respond to their names. Be patient, Clark and Lois will get it eventually. Have a Blessed day!
We got clickbaiting
your hard to watch
😂
You guys really don't know how to treat fish that you want to live dude what the f*** are you doing
Omg I've never seen a trout that big , I didn't even know they could , down here in Oklahoma im buzzing when I get a 3-5 pounder 😅
You'll have to try lake trout fishing sometime in Canada, they can get over well over 50 lbs!
In Utah good luck catching a rainbow over 5 lbs
