I understand that with using all Shure equipment that everything is likely on a network switch. Does your MacBook Pro also plug directly into the switch to communicate with the receivers?
Thanks Steve for the great suggestion! Yes if using a MacBook with an Ethernet connection, you can connect directly to a white unit OR go through a switch. DCHP helps keep it simple. I’ll look into making a video that breaks this down!

Great video. I’m now going to implement the RF off changeover pack walk into my work flow now that I understand I can simply unlock one frequency and recalculate for a simple no fuss update of one or more frequencies. On a tour maybe two years ago my tech used to use an RF pad and a 100’ bnc on my IEM helical claiming that both of those helped lower the noise floor. Generally I know long BNC is frowned upon but it was of high quality and my IEMs were always rock solid the whole tour. Do you agree with this 100’ bnc cable ideology? Or do you think my IEMs were just good for the tour because of his coordination skills? I hear you mention the RF pads in the video but only on the receiving antennas... what are your views on using one for the IEMs? I heard you mention in a podcast appearance that you carry a couple band pass filters with you at all times but noticed the freq range of the band pass filters that you carry weren’t the widest... I was thinking of purchasing two of the pro wireless 470-698 range filters and admittedly have no prior use with bandpass filters so I’m curious what you think of that purchase. Thanks or the great questions! I'm glad some of this helped you! Reagrding the RF pad and long BNC on transmitting IEM side -- I've never used that technique. I would think if the goal was reducing the noise floor that the IEM receives, that would be best acomplished with padding the receiving side. The long BNC and padding on the transmit side I would err on the side that would negativly affect range, yet would have to test.Yet, open and curious to know the reasoning your tech's technique -- I'm always learning. As far as bandpass filters, for me I think they have a place in environments when using sub-par RF gear or situations where you see bleed from other high power sources. I have a question about RF priority. For example, i want to make my main vocal channels and star IEM assigned to the most prioritized and most stable RF freqs as possible. I've never figured out how to change the Stars or find a way to change priority in this way. Do you have any suggestions? Big fan by the way!!
Thanks for the comment and apologies for the delay responding. One way to do this is to drag the channels to your preferred order within then”assign and deploy” window. You need to then deploy the coordination to your networked devices. This new order will then be reflected in your coordination. I’ll try to whip up a video to show an example. I hope this helps you a bit!

Great question! The basics of coordination, as explain here, are the same. What you need to pay attention to is range due to longer distances as well as any additional wireless in the facility (wireless com, wirelss video, house emcee, etc..). Antenna placement, transmit power and coax length are all important. Check out resources from James Stoffo-- he's the guru!

I would deeply appreciate your suggestions/tips on managing RF onboard a cruise 🙏🏽 Also do you scan every time you're in a new location OR do you can devices everyday as a best practice sort of thing no matter where in the world you are?
Hi Liam! Thanks for your message. Congrats on your cruise ship adventure! Following best practices of daily scans, proper coordination and being aware of your RF environment I think will set you up for success. Don't ever assume "of it worked yesterday, it will today". Developing a simple practice of ensuring everything is playing nice I've found helps me develop skills and makes this prcess quite fast and intuitive. Good luck!
I think i understand what is happening between "calculate" and analyze". Let me know if this is correct. When you push "calculate" it is finding available frequency around all the exclusions that are put in as well as the main frequency of the device not overlapping with each other. When you push "analyze" it is checking the inter modulation spacing of all devices and is looking for overlap. So when you see "incompatible" you can start clicking off the Inter mod spacing one at a time to see if this helps? Do you start with 3T30 and work your way up? Is there ever a point that you would uncheck all the inter mod spacing? Thanks for the video.

@@BjorgenEatinger The purpose of pads with receiving antennas is to mitigate/lower the RF noise floor when faced with an environment of a high noise floor. Remember we are trying to get the highest signal to NOISE ratio. When looking at your scan data you will see a certain amount of steady noise. Your transmitters need to be above that noise by a fair amount. You can use pads to "push down" the noise (as well as your transmitters), BUT your 10mW transmitters are quite strong and will rise above the noise. Yet, using pads will push the noise further down, which in turn can improve your reception.

Since they are so close to your receivers, I assume they must be set to -6 or 0 gain (passive)? But let's say that the paddles are moved much further away, and you set the amp to +6 or +12db gain (active). How is the inline attenuation via the RF pads affected by the settings on the paddle? I know this diverts from the coordination tutorial, and I apologize for that, but hopefully, this is a relevant part of the coordination effort.
