Ukulele cheers people up! I’m Russian and when the war started I was completely shocked and devastated. At the beginning I read a lot of news about it and then understood that I could lose my mind and stopped. I’m a bookworm, but I couldn’t read or watch anything, but listen to music. Music really cures. I started to play the ukulele and it still makes me happy and relaxed. This World needs peace and an ukulele for everyone!

I didn’t pick up the ukulele until I was 69 and looking for a COVID hobby. Small, innocuous, lightweight, only 4 strings…. How hard it could be? About 3 years and 6 ukes later, still learning, smiling, enjoying and playing on a daily basis when at home.

I’ll add my comment on taking up ukulele. After playing guitar for close to 40 years (mostly acoustic, and not anything great by any means), I took up ukulele in the Summer of 2020 to have a simpler and easy-to-bring-with-me instrument to visit my Mom, who was in the final stage of Alzheimer’s. I would play while we would do simple puzzles together in the visiting areas available to us under then-existing nursing care COVID policies. That September & October, I would play my brand new KoAloha tenor (which I received the day she went to the emergency room to start her final journey), while with her in hospice care at her apartment in the nursing facility. Some of the last cogent words she said to me was “that’s nice” as I played (which was actually “Hotel California” - so, she could still appreciate cool). These memories will always be part of my love of ukulele playing.

at the start of the pandemic my kids bought an ukulele kit for me. I built it and then learned to play. I'm on my 28th ukulele build now and just like other folks, it makes me happy!

I retired in 2013 and soon after my twin grandsons were born. I took up ukulele shortly after their arrival and taught myself a few nursery rhymes to play for the boys....and I was hooked for life! 10 years later I have a collection of ukuleles in a variety of sizes and a banjolele! I play every day and have had great fun playing for others too.

I love this style so much. Andreas is a great musician. I have seen him play before, but didn’t know he was so accomplished in this style.

Ukulele just makes me smile. I wish I had more time to devote to it. It’s small and I can easily take it with me when I travel. Even though I’m not much of a player my wife says it’s soothing to her.

Django to Brahms! That’s how versatile the ukulele is - plus funk and and bluegrass and Pooh and wonderful Hawaiian songs - in the hands of talented players. Just cool. Thanks so much for this. Loved every minute. You all are the best.

    Ukulele reconciled me with music.
Lot of year with regrets about stop music academy(piano) when I was young…
Now as an adult , father, and short day with all stuff work, etc…
I didn’t imagine have « enough time » to learn an instrument.
    But ukulele have this !
At beginning progression is fast, learning is easy.
    And that’s really motivating !
More of that now, I can grab my ukulele, breathe and have a great calm and peaceful time.
I play a lot in front of my daughters and they've seen all these steps, this ongoing learning process for 4 years now. My little daughters said to me « you are not bored with all that things? That’s beautiful (sometimes) but all that time… »
And I discover at that moment all that things was never a chore… sometimes a challenge and always a great time.

Hello Andrew, Corey, Kalei and escpecially Andreas, 🌺 got a cup of Coffee and have a look at this breathtaking and fascinating Podcast for a second time. I am blown away from the way, how Andreas is demonstrating and explaining the difference between playing Gypsy-Jazz and Bluegrass Style! @Andreas, your Skills are mindblowing. Had to laugh at this passage at about 15:09 when you are saying that playing it this way is "bullshit" 😊 You Guys together is always a great pleasure and so much fun. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and the wonderful Music! Love the Song "A Swingin Safari" from Herb Alpert - brings so much positive vibes! Mahalo Nui, stay safe and be blessed from Germany, Bettina

Awesome one as always, Andreas thanks for droppin' tunes and knowledge! It's harder to actually tell the tone on those Kala contour with Aquila strings on them and sometimes less than preferred quality of sound samples out there. I feel like when you play Aquila you're hearing more of the string than the instrument compared to other string types--but what do I know :Þ I'm honestly curious how they would sound on a fretted up 2x4--I bet not too bad! I appreciate you all and you're knowledge and expertise in guiding us--yall are legit players and just lovers of music and the instrument and the craft, mahalo au iā ʻoe!
Uke has been there as a loyal friend to me the past few years. I picked it up during the pandemic and it helped me during that trying time and through some depression. At the time, I did not feel creative or like an artist at all and I felt like none of my hobbies were "creative." Playing uke has given me such an awesome creative outlet. My uke has stayed loyal to me--even if I did ignore it for a month or so here and there. It has helped me find and connect to my voice better than my own voice can--who knew such a thing was possible? And it has further connected me to fine community I would not otherwise know. My dear younger sibling in law died the very morning of the Maui fires. Their death was not connected, but the ukulele community was grieving as I also grieved and I felt deep connection in that. I feel like my uku has been a dear friend for me
