Of ALL the watch and clockmakers on YT. I like your style the most; learned talking and explaining all the way through. Thank You

I love this kind of content. There is just something fascinating about clocks, so it is great to have stumbled upon this channel. These kinds of skills are being lost. Thank you for uploading this stuff.

@@jamesmartin5370 I wish I had taken the time to learn how to fix these myself when I was younger. We have a 1910 Gilbert mantel clock that someone in the family bought many years ago. It has never worked. I opened it up to see if I could figure it out, but quickly found that the movement was too complex for me to even know where to start.

@@theviledelinquent3920 Some people just send the movement, easier to pack and less chance of breakage of the case.

It would be nice to have more lights. And super magnification. You could probably do it with a couple more magnifying glasses. But you have to change camera angles or get another camera

What a total mess of a watch! If I were doing it, I'd have already thrown it in the parts bin. I'm very interested to see what you do next.

      Thanks,
      Understood.
I receive many that have been condemned.
This watch is a family heirloom, has a lot of value to the family.
I treat each one with respect and in the end they end up being loyal time keepers again for the owners.

@@jamesmartin5370 Spoken like a true craftsman- a man doesn't create for money or doesn't throw away and give up to save a little time. Restoration is an art form that originates from a man's soul. Of course even an artist has to eat and a financial reward at the end of the journey certainly doesn't hurt :)

Thank you for sharing this one James. Interesting combination of missing and broken parts. Would you find a donor movement to get the jewels? I'm looking forward to seeing the Waltham rebuild as well.

I have a few jewels around here, would look through what I have first.
Most doner movements could end up needing less work to get ticking than this one.
Its a toss up when one in this condition comes across the bench.

@@jamesmartin5370 I expected that you also have a parts cache. I will wait patiently for the owner to decide how he would like you to proceed.
I have several Elgins and other brands in similar condition. Your clock and watch videos always give me inspiration to tackle one more project. Thank you.

In other words, he needs a new movement.

Well, it can be fixed. There's a lot this movement needs.
Someone who worked on it in the past abused it.
The other one, the Waltham, I have that one running, will post a video of the rebuild process in a couple of days.

I have managed to filter most of them it out in recent videos.
I always run the customers movements for a while before returning them.
It comes with having it done all in a small shop.
