Sherlock called John family as Mycroft wanted to send him away. He has decided for John, who is the most important person to him in the world, and against Mycroft. His best friend and soulmate he stood above his own brother. There is nothing to add and speaks volumes. They are a family who raise a child together, and noone convince me otherwise.
