Its the Vertical audio. Absolute shit in this game. You can't tell if they are above or below or in the same level. I've done the same, waiting for enemy to come through the door and all of a sudden they come from below and kill you. The Audio in BR games should be of the highest quality because sound is by far most important part especially when in buildings.
When you hear that amount of footsteps and no one infront of you, they ain't coming from that direction homie. Always clear sign of them coing from below in a two story house. Is how I think anyhow due to the fact that when you are in a two story house in terms of directions it sounds like they are on the second and first at the same time BUT if you dont see anyone and a lot of footsteeps that is a dead giveaway
Just another reason I also think "dead silence" should be removed from the game as well. 99% of the time I'm killed is from someone using "dead silence." It's an RnG drop. So basically I was killed by someone having better luck than me.
Im not saying its well designed generally, but to me it clearly sounds like its coming from his bottom left and a little bit forward , then to his right. Precisely how the enemy took that path in the killcam

Doc was just being dumb. If he heard the guy he must come through the stairs because you would've seen him on the roof while approaching the building. And there isnt a jump spot there unless there was a car which would've shown on minimap.
Going from playing Apex to playing this is a night and day difference in audio. I can hear somebody breathing a mile away in Apex but can’t tell if somebody’s on a roof or stomping below me in COD

i told my squad to play apex cause i usually play solo after we run warzone and they were gushing over the fact that you can hear basically everything even from a midrange radius with solid headphones. It was like taking your little cousins to the carnival.
So I replayed this a bunch of times and here's what I found: 1. You hear far away steps (doc crouches) 2. Helli goes over, footsteps are cut off (doc looks towards the roof area) 3. You hear 3 steps and FFAR insta kills (doc dies by 2 people sprinting below him)
DOC just misinterpreted the footsteps. first time I heard it I was wondering why he wasnt preaiming stairs. It obviously wasn't above due to the different flooring and sound. doc messed that up.

You could hear them coming from the bottom right of him in this clip. BUT, when you're in game sometimes it's really hard to locate. Enemies sound like they are coming from both directions at times.
I heard the first set of footsteps with no audio direction at all. I could definitely hear 2 or 3 different sounding footsteps to the right on the stairs. Still can’t tell if it’s 2 players or 4 players.

I definitely feel the pain, many times i've died to no audio (without deady), but on their kill-cam they are clearly stomping around like elephants on parade. The vertical/3d audio of this game is awful. SOOO many times since recent season start that i've heard footsteps clearly sound like someone is within 5 feet of me same floor, and they are actually lazily looting above/below me making me look like a crazy person staring at nothing. When I put on my headset to listen to this though, I was sad to see the 2-time no look and pre-aim the stairs.
not sure about what was that headset that Doc is using but I don't have such problems with Razer Nari Ultimate with THX Competetive sound mode which is supported by Cod.
Yesterday I went up an elevator, heard footsteps and someone open the door. Took the elevator back down. Turned out the audio came from 30 floors beneath me...like wtf.
I get the same issues... sounds like there underneath or above and then boom you're dead... I feel his pain... I use sony headphones and I think sonys are the best tried them in multiple games the sound is just crisp clear... its either the game or something to do with windows settings... 😔

Vertical audio issue is definitely a concern but it was still very clear that someone was on the right side and the only way to come up is through the stairs. Doc missed that. I watched the video twice and my headsets caught the foot audio on the right easily.

The secret is to swap your headphones so that right is left and left is right. Then turn them upside down so the band is under your chin. Now, flip the ear cups inside out. Also, turn all sound in game and Windows to MONO. Your welcome.
I’m telling you doc really needs to have his hearing checked and I don’t mean that in a mean way I’m serious. I had mine checked 2 years ago and I lost hearing in my right ear from where I’m on heart failure an it affected my hearing hopefully I’ll get a heart transplant soon and I’ll be back to normal. I really couldn’t tell until I was in game about my hearing and i really noticed it big time. Now I have my astros or my hypers I use on different settings and no more issues also had to fix in game sound as well. Hope something works out fast for him. I recommend it in his chat and I got banned when I was just putting up a suggestion. Everyone gets old and change that’s life. God bless everyone and happy Father’s Day.
Footstep audio is so inconsistent because of all the random audio that is in the game. Example: you’re fighting a team and a random precision air strike passes close to you, between that and the shooting footstep audio literally disappears. Also add the “enemy uav” audio and the rest……. If they take those random and useless things and fix by having zero audio than you’ll have a very much better audio.
Jumping fucks audio up. Sometimes is disguises footsteps for a little bit, and because you aren't getting the consistent beat of normal footsteps it can disorient the other player even more. Use this knowledge to your advantage the chosen select few.
The thing about this garbage game is you can’t tell if their upstairs or downstairs and you literally won’t hear a person sneak up on you even if you heard them run in the house
Thing it works both ways. If your sat camping it's hard to tell where they are so it's not great. But if your pushing it works in your favour. So not too bad really

The audio bytes for certain things are amazing but when it comes to directional specifically vertical audio, it’s terrible.

It's the audio in warzone. In terms of footsteps, they only coded those sounds on a X, Y and failed to code in the third one.
