Big thanks to Port Lowdown for their positive view of the island of Bimini! It's fantastic to see them recognizing the importance of using a local guide like Max from Bimini Island Tours. Truly adds depth and authenticity to their content. Keep up the great work!
great video, I was pretty much sold on renting a golf cart but having a private tour guide that is actually from the island is very appealing, I love to explore the history of everywhere I go and being able to just listen to a local reflect on their life their is about as good as it gets
Totally agree! The only bummer was that the Dolphin House was closed since the artist was away on a trip. I would have loved to hear his stories! Really wish I could have spent time at Radio Beach...so cool there. We did a video on golf cart rental at Grand Turk if you're going there; I imagine that rental experience is similar to other places.
Great video. I just went last week. We did an eight hour day on a cruise. This island is so perfect for that. We rented a golf cart ($120 - didn't have reverse) and stayed to the right away from resorts. We snorkeled around the point and the ship wreck. It's the clearest water I've ever seen on earth. Later I also rented a jet ski (well worth it). If I could throw in one thing. Have lunch or a meal at the big game dock. The food was really good and there's big bull sharks swimming around on the dock. I counted at least four along with some nurse sharks and other big fish. I think someone feeds them from the dock so they are kind of residence. This is one Island I can't wait to go back to! Truly the perfect day. Enjoyed the video. Thank you!
We were scheduled for this port on 11/5/24, but Carnival could not dock due to the weather. Great video. Can't wait til I have this on my itinerary again.
It was a pretty cool port. The captain said he had the hardest time docking at this port due to choppy seas. I find that often in Caribbean ports, since many docks are directly facing the ocean and not protected by a larger pier or other barrier. In fact, we've had a few ports canceled for the same reason. It's a bummer when that happens, but better safe. Hope you find your way here!
Thank you for the absolutely provide video… Thank you for holding the camera still🤣😂 I am glad you profiled Bimini because I truly believe it is a diamond in the rough underappreciated little island. Absolutely new subscriber thank you.
Yep! It left a great impression on me even if I only passed through this time. It would be perfect for me to get a golf cart, go there and veg all day.
Hmmm, I can't say really. I would take the usual precautions you would do back home. I didn't get the impression of the place being safe or unsafe. Definitely more poverty of course
Thank for the info. This the first trip we are taking our children on. And we can not really afford the expensive cruise excursions. I figured we could rent a taxi or small vehicle just to take them to a beach that’s close by.
That's sounds like a plan. Radio Beach is lovely. The trick is getting wheels. Golf carts are VERY big here, just be careful with the vendor. There's mixed reports on some. I think Max from our video can refer you to someone trusted. Or hire him as a taxi driver.
Right. Our guide drove past it before dropping us off at the shuttle stop by the casino. Apparently, Virgin owns it and keeps it "on standby" for its guests. From a distance it looked super clean and spiffy
You can refer to our description for Max's contact, as he is also a taxi driver. As far as the ferry, you'll need to reach the south end of the North section, then cross. Here is some info I found that could get you started (3 years old but most likely still current): Frequent scheduled ferry service is available between North and South Bimini from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. The fare is $2 each way. Here are a few contacts: ATL BUS/ WATER TAXI SERVICES- (242) 225-4568, GLENRICK'S WATER TAXI SERVICES- (242) 553-9025, and SCUBA BIMINI FERRY- (242) 464-5062 Best to you!
flying is best for us ,boat one time , found secret places we love .. the resort is declining tho . roach in the lobster wasn't pleasant , trashy ,,island life
Places like this I would not like to visit on a cruise. I think I would like to take a flight and head straight there because as exciting and fun as cruises are, they can give your mind a false impression of vacation locations and make it look too small to spend a week long vacation. A vacation is supposed to be a time to kick back and relax your mind and body, not a time to do as much as possible in a limited time, which is the mind frame you get into when you port at places while on a cruise. On a cruise you really don't have the time to absorb all the location has to offer you, because you're on a specific pace that is not set by you, and you have to get moving with the crowd, and be back on ship with everyone. Really not what your well earned vacation should be. The Caribbean is a paradise that GOD has given us, and it's big enough for us all. Let's slow down, and ease our minds, and take it all in slowly. It's good for our health 🙂
Thanks for your perspective. We use cruising as a "sampler" of a particular place. For many cruisers, it's the convenience and cost efficiency of having one place of lodging (the ship) and access to various destinations on one trip. We agree it's not ideal from a slow travel perspective. Spending more time in a place is preferable, in fact that's my biggest problem with cruises. There's never enough time for me at port! 🫤 But its not always possible for everyone to have the time to do so. Cruising provides a compromise between time and access. On our channel, we're attempting to focus on a travel centric experience instead of simply vacationing. It's a challenge to be sure, but what matters is the value one places on the time they have. We offer a suggested alternative - go local instead of corporate, seek hidden treasures rather than ship planned excursions. We'll keep striving for that and, hopefully, draw meaningful experiences regardless of time limits.
@@ThePortLowdown thanks for what you do, I forgot to mention, and the reply. Watching this video does put me in the mood for a real good Caribbean vacation. Hello from London-Ontario, Canada 🙂
Hope you find your sunny spot! We just got back from Grand Turk and we really enjoyed it. We have lots of videos backed up, but will get this together soon!
I went to Cozumel on a trip that wasn't a cruise and went there when there were no ships in port and it was really quite the experience, one of nights there was an evening mass that was incredible. People who live there, when the tourists are away, still very much practice their cultures traditions and customers and it was amazing to get to be a part of it

Wow, thank you so much! We try to stay true to our experience while promoting local whenever possible. Thank you!

On 29 i go to bimini. Excited 😊😊
Awesome! Wish we were there!

Thanks for the kind words! Those all sound like great ideas for the island, I'll make note. Best to you, and so glad you had a great time!

We paid $140 for a golf cart and had a blast running up and down and went to 3 different beaches. Good times and conch is pretty tasty
Awesome! Next time, that's what we'll do. The beaches are beautiful!
Love local tours, thanks for sharing!
Us too! We prefer to support the local economy whenever possible. Plus, we have a more authentic experience.
Now I have to book this twice once to go left and the other to go right lol
Lol! It's beautiful enough to do a bunch of times. I'd just hang all day at Radio Beach, but that's just me.🙂
I think I’m going to love Bimini
Radio Beach left a lasting impression. Have an awesome time!

Thanks so much! I keep a steady hand. 😄 I hope more people discover and appreciate this place.
Although I cruise frequently, this will be my very first time traveling to Bimini! This is a great video, thank you for posting!
You're quite welcome. Have a great time, the beaches are a beauty.
I fell in love with Bimini...🇧🇸
Me too. The beaches are amazing and the people friendly. Just wanna hang back there all day!
You said you wanted to return to that fabulous beach. Was that Radio beach you’re speaking of? Thanks
Yep! It left a great impression on me even if I only passed through this time. It would be perfect for me to get a golf cart, go there and veg all day.
LOVE this! THANK YOU! I am going to use your recommendations when we're in Bimini next month!!!
Excellent! Thank you so much! And have an awesome time!
It's interesting
We liked it! Small but inviting.
While relaxing in the pool or beach, do you have to worry about your beach bag, left at your seat?
Hmmm, I can't say really. I would take the usual precautions you would do back home. I didn't get the impression of the place being safe or unsafe. Definitely more poverty of course
Thank you

We have some links in our description to get you started.
Thank you for the review on Bimini
How
Much are golf carts for 2 ppl?
We didn't rent a cart there, so I couldn't tell you. Sorry.
I go there every year with Virgin Cruise. They own the beach there that’s unbelievable. It’s to the left of the pair.
Right. Our guide drove past it before dropping us off at the shuttle stop by the casino. Apparently, Virgin owns it and keeps it "on standby" for its guests. From a distance it looked super clean and spiffy
How much was the tour ?
170 US for the two of us.
Can you give us an idea of the price of a tour with Max?
170 US for the two of us. Max is great!
There's a link in our description if you want to contact him directly.
Id like his email@@ThePortLowdown
How do I get t6o South Bimini? I used to have property there.
You can refer to our description for Max's contact, as he is also a taxi driver. As far as the ferry, you'll need to reach the south end of the North section, then cross. Here is some info I found that could get you started (3 years old but most likely still current):
