First time I saw you mention a Gravely. I have over 18 and when they had the gravely club event in Portland a few years ago I was going to stop by to see you. I had six or seven I displayed that year. One was a 1948 model with the wheel barrow attachment. That engine is a gravely engine first developed in 1937. A "T" head engine. My oldest is a 1938.
I was hauling a Scrub Cadet back to the shop for service. This beast had the bolt on rear wheel weights as part of a snow kit. I pulled away from the stoplight at 82nd & Allisonville in Indianapolis and she decided she was done with the ride and then physics happened and she deposited herself in the smack middle of the intersection during rush hour. In 1985, that was the busiest intersection in Indy so that was a fun day. My back still hurts thinking about it.
Before you took off, did you shake it good and say, “That ain’t going no where”? If it was going to happen, that had to be the spot! Thanks for the story!
I dropped an entire top box full of tools that way once getting on the highway. Needless to say I lost a few tools thanks to traffic and wanting to gtfo before the cops showed up.
That all wheel drive cadet is a beauty, that gravely snowplow is killer too, love how slippers likes to collect stuff, most people these days dont have hobbies anymore, gotta have a hobby, something you are passionate about.
Taryl you are so lucky to be able to go to these shows God bless you the slip dog and of course your son junior take care my friends PS great job on that four wheel tractor great craftsman ship
I used Gravely walk behinds back in the mid 60s. My father would bring one home from work for me to cut the grass around the house. It didn't have the electric start. Had the rope start where you wrapped a rope around the pully. It did have a sulky for riding. It was a beast. If I remember correctly, Gravely made their own engines up until the 60s. It was a single cylinder 4 stroke. Later they went to the Kohler or Onan.
I’ve got one of those beasts sitting in my barn, only it has a strap instead of a rope that you wind up and pull on. It has a magneto on it and thing loves to kick if you don’t watch yourself when trying to start it. Lol
I share your videos with my son . I shared this one saying in this episode the poor old thangs have went to an equipment show ! Ha. Love all the videos especially the skits involved . God Bless !!!
Back in the late 1970s my dad inherited from the next door neighbor, his old lawn tractor. It was front engine, front wheel drive, rear steer and had a 24" rotating blade. There was a friction wheel which dad remanufactured twice (because he was a child of the depression and took pride in making broken stuff work). Eventually however, he decided he needed new. That is when he bought the John Deere RX-75 that I am still using today. I never knew the brand name of that odd old lawn tractor, but that power reel mower may offer a clue (even though it looked quite different).
black and white photo's are so nice..color has its place but a well taken black and white photo's i think look better depending on what your going for 😎😎✌✌
Taryl been watching for some time love your stuff Try to buy but every time I get some money some thing comes Up keep up the great Work Thank you Robbie G
Brown tractor that Taryl was sitting on at end of video...David Bradley Suburban , circa 1959-61 or so....sold by Sears. Garden tractor with individual rear brakes controlled by pulling on handles. Attachments available were snowblower, mower deck, single bottom plow with manual 3 point hitch, cultivator, and a disc harrow, and more.
when you were showing the Kraft auction lots available .. one could discern, the sound of, an steam traction.. drawing hard thru the flues .. probably on an Baker Fan (old skool dyno ).. wouldn't hurt to show couple quick shots .. of the power that was made before internal combustion .. and even some early combustion ... ya know .. just a quick glance ..
I can see that reel mower taking out a few chihuahuas ! 🐶 Safety was 'not' a concern back in the day !! My Mom & Dad had one of those Gravely's, but it didn't have the duels. That thing was just too heavy.
That 4x4 cub cadet I believe I had previously seen on Facebook in a cub cadet collectors group a few years back when it was being done. It’s nice seeing it floating around on here, Agreed too it was well done! & those Gravely’s were always unique to come by, I had two that I got from a guy that picked them up from a local steel mill when they closed down (Bethlehem steel but the Baltimore Sparrows Pt location) probably 30 years ago before I was even born lol
I just worked on my Grandpas 1963 International Cub Cadet 70 (7hp Kohler) looked similar to that 4wd except it was all original. It had been sitting for many years, but took minimal work to get going and running perfectly. Rode it for miles immediately after, a very fine machine.
I have that Cub Cadet ( first year with plow) Would Love 4WD! We converted it to pull start engines because we hate batteries and rope start, the shaft turns the opposite way so Jack shaft or pully on the other side. Thanks for showing that. 👍
Hey Taryl my nabor has one of those scrub cadet mowers just like the first one in this video minus the 4 wheel drive. Knowing him he's probably got a few of them, he's also a collector of vintage mowers and he builds pulling mowers. That looked like a great show.
It's a Gravely engine. I used to work on these. You had to keep the shut off pressed until the engine came to a complete stop or it would kick back throwing the crankshaft out of alinement wallering out the oil seal causing it to leak. The crank was 2 discs bolted together by the crank pin. We replaced the shut off button with a toggle switch to prevent this.
I bought a old Gravely walk behind from a neighbor and he told me that the motor was built by Studebaker. It revved higher than any Gravely we ever owned. Had a belt to a cooling fan in the rear.. Hand controls were backwards and I kept running into stuff. That
My uncle has a Massey Ferguson lawn tractor with a ten HP Tecumseh cast iron motor. It has a starter/ generator. He has the deck, it is frozen up but complete and he wants to sell it. Whatever goes on the engine shaft is missing, I don't know if it's a clutch or a pulley.
Studebaker made those early Gravely. I use to fill the 2 gal. tank in the morning, come in from lunch at 11:30, fill the tank back up and mow till 5:00 pm. $1.25 cents an hour and I thought I was in Heaven.
Hell I didn’t know yall was Hoosiers been watchin u off and on for a long time never knew u was from northern Indiana i live north of Kokomo but anywho Have u guys ever been to the tri state gas engine show in Portland Indiana it would be a drive for u but is worth it huge swap meet tractor show oil field engines steam tractor old construction equipment all kinds of stuff
Approx 1970 our neighbors, in Jackson MI, had that rear steer Yardman (JacksonMI) with a rotary deck rather than reel. Theirs was badged Yardman not Montgomery Wards.
Taryl, i have a J.C Penny 26 inch rear bagger that was made in 76. Complete less bag with a 8 hp Briggs. It has a 5 speed transmission with reverse.please post when this show is next year
Yeah, with how insane parents are with their kids these days hes just asking for trouble, you look at a kid these days the wrong way and you might get the death penalty not to mention flipping those little carts over.
Would you believe there are hundreds of millions of Americans who lived in cities their entire lives who never saw a tractor in real life. I only saw one farm tractor when I visited a rural house when I was about 12 years old, back in the 1960's. That was the only time I got close to a real farm tractor. I even drove it. When the power went out during Hurricane Katrina, was the only time I ever saw a truly dark moonless sky, with the ground so black I couldn't see it. I was like floating out in space, but with gravity. Living in a big city is an artificial environment. They don't work without electricity.
It is a cub cadet original rearend.... I had a diy home built low boy built from a cub cadet original and the. Widened the axle and I came across this build via part number searches on forums. The front axle is from a kabota
seen all of them at one time or another, now, find a Springfield tractor, or a Henderson riding mower, ( made in Indy Indiana) then you get my attention.
There used to be a guys house I’d drive by every day that would restore or recondition old cub cadet lawn tractors. That looks like I may have seen one kings like that, 4wd. Not sure though.
Seems like people are so $ hungry these days. Just remember from a 51 (in November) old Boy Scout. From a friend. 'It's the journey not the destination', and Friendships!
The front wheel drive came from the rear of a tracker then it was put on the front . Now I need one too put back on the rear of my tracker can you help me Taryl .

I've enjoyed outdoor power equipment since I was a kid.
Taryl you are so lucky to be able to go to these shows God bless you the slip dog and of course your son junior take care my friends PS great job on that four wheel tractor great craftsman ship
That Wheelie Horse is a hoot. Thanks for sharing it with us.
I'm happy to brag about my 1967 IH Cub Cadet model 72. I keep her running, she can still cut grass, and has the original creeper gear.

I was told those early engines were Studebaker manufactured.
Very cool photos Junior. The polaroids were awesome, especially the B&W's.
I used to cut grass as a kid on a reel mower exactly like the one you are showing. Did great reverse wheelies!
Thanks for sharing that my friends awesome

4 WD! now that's useful! Looks nicely done too👍
Gravely made their own engines in the first walk behinds and later added Koehler to them. It’s a gravely 7.6 hp engine in it.
Neat old lawn tractors,Great video!

I work at a International Harvester Dealership back in the seventies and I worked on cub cadets and I never seen a four wheel drive one .
I remember that Tonka toy with the camper trailer that Slippers had. A friend of mine had one as a kid.
that rear steer real mower remind me of a combine/ also some nice wheel horses there
I bought a old Gravely walk behind from a neighbor and he told me that the motor was built by Studebaker. It revved higher than any Gravely we ever owned.
Had a belt to a cooling fan in the rear..
Hand controls were backwards and I kept running into stuff.

Approx 1970 our neighbors, in Jackson MI, had that rear steer Yardman (JacksonMI) with a rotary deck rather than reel. Theirs was badged Yardman not Montgomery Wards.
The 4x4 Cub('61-'63) is definitely homemade, the transmission is from the Farmall Cub/Lowboy tractors.
Thanks for sharing 👍
See any Frazer Rototillers?
Taryl, i have a J.C Penny 26 inch rear bagger that was made in 76. Complete less bag with a 8 hp Briggs. It has a 5 speed transmission with reverse.please post when this show is next year
Rick Beem from Waunakee, WI built the 4 wheel drive Cub Cadet.
That guy towing those kiddies around quickly on a slope I was expecting one of those kiddie cars to flip over!
Those kiddie cars were made out of old fifty five gallon drums, they probably roll right over and land on their feet! Lol
I wonder if that's the same one I seen the guy building in the shorts section
That IH is NICE . !
Jacobsen!
I am surprised you don't have more gravely content . They were mostly up north and east. They have all kinds of attachments for them.
Has slippers seen the documentary on netflix about the Pez pirate. Very interesting. Since he likes toys, he may like it
just curious what is a mustang mower like the one you showed there worth roughly? thanks love your videos
Gravely I believe made their own T head engine. What was the John Deere at 8.55 in the background, huffing and chuffing please?
Got a scrub 147, needs a little work. 👍
That dude pulling the train of kids isn't being gentle lol
Yeah, with how insane parents are with their kids these days hes just asking for trouble, you look at a kid these days the wrong way and you might get the death penalty not to mention flipping those little carts over.
They made these at international harvester in memphis.i worked there
Slippers probably remember when those lawnmowers were new
Tartlet could you show me how to connect ignition wiring on craftsman YT300 to a b& s 17 hp motor?
hey taryl whats a good budget mower tractor that has solid trans and axles that can really pull stuff.

Elk Skins got a nice Dunlap goin on😅
Back in the beginning gravley had a Indian motorcycle engine on them.
How did that Mustang drive those tiny wheels?
It is a cub cadet original rearend.... I had a diy home built low boy built from a cub cadet original and the. Widened the axle and I came across this build via part number searches on forums. The front axle is from a kabota
Hmm thought that 4X4 might have been Dan Hoeflers but his used all custom built parts for the transfer and front axle.
Yanmar builds tillers similar to that Gravely walkbehind for use in Korean rice paddies.
What is that background noise while showing the gravely?
Wow whaaaat
Any Snappers?
No late 60s Hahn tractors?
I’m in Md. lots of Panzers poppin round here. We be next to Pennsylvania! Yup! 🇺🇸
Gravely had their own engines back in the day.

I met a gut with one of those early cub cadets and it was serial number 69
