An amazingly simple piece of kit - rather like a motorcycle's sequential system, only you don't need to let off the throttle between shifts. Very interesting - I've never seen the insides of one of these before. Cheers!
Although I am a Toyota guy I still love all these mean Escorts.... I would love to build my 87 Celica GtFour to full GrpA specs.... Lol dreams are free 🤣🤣🤣
Great explanation in layman’s language. Part of the reason you drive this car so well, apart from obvious talent, is you also know every nut and bolt and modification
That is a very cool gearbox design, the cassette feature nd easily accessable drop gear arrangement is neat! However, that support (sandwich) plate appears to be a slip fit and there's some clear fretting marks inside the case where it has obviously been moving - perhaps a redesign of the case and support plate that would have it slip between a couple of supports, machined into the casing, that could then be cross-bolted to the housing, using external bolts, to add rigidity? Even without the cross-bolts, it would be better oriented for the side loading on the gear cluster?
Frank is that set up sort of the similar idea to the quickshift system on a motorbike although a motorbike gearbox looks like the inside of a watch in comparison to yours Thers a lot more to baby blue than meets the eye thanks for sharing your gear bag info
See to many people treating these kinds of box gently, they are not made for it. That bearing surface on the lay shaft is not worth putting back together with either. ;)
That's an amazing bit of kit 😍😍

Your knowledge of the engineering of every bit of your car is amazing.

"don't ask her for the gear, tell her she's getting it" gotta love Frank's no nonsense, layman's terms. Legend.

Wow, that deserves to be in a show case, what an amazing thing......
How much BHP can handle this box

Good info

Yea, most sequential gearbox’s are similar to a motorbike only bigger.
Brilliant
sweet bit of kit , the hole package
its like a bike gearbox
What final ratio do you use in the back axel when you have the dropp option in the incoming on the gearbox ?
Currently running a 4.6 CWP with over drive drop gear.
nice
Can't believe no one has asked how much a gear box like this costs ? :)
What make is the box please?
Samsonas

You're not just a pretty face Frank........
Frank, not ‘clear as mud at all’ - second career as a teacher if you wanted. Thanks.
