Hi. Thank you for your video. I just started homeschooling my son. I'm using Time4learning platform. Can I list the website for the main subjects on the IHIP form?
I would try to list a few topics for each subject area that NY requires. For example Math: adding & subtracting 2 digit numbers, telling time to the half-hour, identifying dollar bills & coins, etc. Science: force, motion, gravity, Newton’s Laws, etc I feel like most districts want to see at least a little bit of info. And then on your quarterly reports you can go more in-depth as to what was covered. I hope that helps!
@@shotxgunxsinners7632 It depends on the age of the child. “Children must attend school or comply with the homeschool laws starting in the school year in which they turn 6 on or before December 1.” hslda.org/post/compulsory-school-age-in-new-york
We are only doing pre k currently but wow. This is a very consice straight forward video, thank you!! How did you figure out WHAT to teach your first grader? Like exactly what topics?
Good question, but I need a little more info: are you wondering what subjects New York requires or what topics under a subject….for instance, what topics under Math? Like double digit addition, patterns, oral counting to 100, etc?
Hey I have a question my child was behind his grade level in reading so I pulled him out of public school and I’m having him work at his own pace in language arts do I have to put his actual grade level in the IHIP? What should I do ?
Great question! I think there are a few things to think about. 1) if he were to ever go back into public school for any reason, what grade would you want him in? 2) what grade level are the majority of his subjects? 3) if you continue homeschooling until he graduates, would you want him to stay on track with where he currently is or wait another year? I know it’s very common to be at different levels for different subjects and that’s completely okay! That’s the beauty of homeschooling; that it is tailored to the needs of the child. Lastly, I pulled my oldest from public school in 4th and he was lacking in writing/language arts skills. I decided to keep him on track with his “grade level,” but then used a curriculum that was geared towards addressing his weaknesses and strengthening his skills (which was at a lower grade level to begin with). I hope this answers your question!
@@beyondthebookshomeschool yes! And yes it’s just the reading he’s in 5th grade and I am letting him move at his own pace in that subject til he gets on grade level so I’ll just put 5th ☺️
@@NanaCherokeeGoddess The same thing was going on with my kids when I pulled them out of public school. Try All about spelling and all about reading this will help alot. Also reading one book per week. This has worked great for us.
This is a good question because in NY state we have to put the child’s grade on the IHIP. To give you an idea: one of my girls will be 7 this Dec and we are doing 1st grade. I have another daughter turning 5 in Jan and we are doing pre-k. It’s flexible for you because you can start wherever you think he is ready. Many curriculum websites have placement tests that will help you determine a level that would be suitable for your kiddo. I might try one of those and start there! Quick question- I just submitted my Ohio for the first time on 8/15 and I was wondering do they normally respond back to you saying they approve it? Or do you just send it and you are good to go? Thanks so much 🫶
@@BellaDonna0912 It really depends on the school district. For instance my district usually just sends me an email that says “received your IHIPs.” And that’s it. Just keep sending in your paperwork on time. Are you sending it via email or snail mail?

You’re welcome! Will the program cover all subjects or the subjects that will be required for your child’s grade level? You could put a statement such as “My child _______ will be using the following online homeschool program (name of program) and it will cover these subject areas: (list areas covered). Wanted to ask are you required to submit birth certificate , ID, and copy of lease. I just sent my letter of intent and they are askingbme for these along with the Ihip. But they didnt send me the IHip package.
No, not at all! You ONLY have to give them information that I spoke about in the IHIP and then ONLY “attendance records” if they request them. Just send in your IHIP within 4 weeks of the letter of intent, and ignore their other requests.
