Oh my goodness!!! Thank you so much for sharing this with me! It’s encouraging to know that it’s empowering others 🤗 thank you so much for watching & commenting! 💖
I am also a teacher homeschooling my children. I MIL is also a huge help. She does their lit, science and social studies and my husband and I teach the math and writing. We do work as a tribe!
Yes, and they are very legitimate concerns for sure! And they were such barriers for me initially but my goodness let me tell you it’s just amazing how it’s become such a great lifestyle for our family! Sometimes I wish I could go back in time and tell younger myself that we were capable of homeschooling 🤗
Full time working, nurse.. we are in our third year homeschooling. Definitely both parents need to be a team. But it definitely can be done . Thanks so much for your advice! It is supportive knowing that there’s more family that work and homeschool.
Hi there! 💯 it’s so essential! What grades are you child/children in? Thanks for commenting! It always gets me so excited when I hear of other fellow working homeschooling parents!
How??? I am a nurse and I want to homeschool but my husband doesn’t think we can do it and we don’t have the family support to help us either. Pray for me!
I liked all the tips! Definitely going to utilize the tips. Structure, partnership - strengths, homeschool on our schedule… I was able to homeschool last year (1st time) because I got a swing-shift schedule. I decided to enroll them in public school this year due to my own health reasons. I still want to homeschool in the future but the main reason I’m not sure if I can is that my husband and I work full-time and my job is no longer doing the swing-swift schedule so I’ll be a 9-5pm. I have 5 kids currently age 7 and under. I have up to a full year to figure this out! I’m gonna let the kids finish public school this year.
It’s definitely a challenge! I definitely think that we can do different options during different seasons of our lives. We had our son in traditional school k-3 and I felt like that time really helped us determine our purpose and figure how we were gonna make it work. The great thing is you were able to test it out last year and have a feel of how you guys can implement things when you begin again 🤗
I'm always discouraged when people say it takes a tribe. We don't have any family near us. We never have. I really want to get our kids out of the public school system. We will be moving soon and we need to both be working full time. I want to home school them too. I have trust issues too with folks watching my kids. I have a dream of what I want to do i hope I can male it happen within the next 2 years. I also hope my husband gets on board and has a more local job so that he can be home more.
Please don't be discouraged! Having our family near is a blessing to us and I know that is definitely not the case for everybody. I do know of families who don't have family near, and they are just creative with it. In some cases one of them works from home, others have alternating shifts or alternating work days. Also if one has a job that is flexible with the hours, the one parent can just work around the other parent's work schedule. In this way they can share the responsibilities. I hope your hubby is able to get a job nearer to home 🙂
Try to get working from home job . I don’t have family also, we live on rent, 3 kids, old car, simple life to make possible stay at home and homeschool, and the most important we trust God as our ultimate provider.
I am considering homeschooling my daughter. She is in 6th grade. I do work for 1030 to 5 Monday-Thursday. I am thinking working with her a bit in the morning and then a bit in the evening. Fridays I can work with her anytime all day. She would have to do more of a self led online curriculum during the day while I am at work. I know it's hard to say but do you think this sounds somewhat possible? I was thinking about trying it over Christmas break and seeing if works for us and if so pulling her after break.
I love that you are already thinking of how you are going to make it work and have a plan to test things out! That’s definitely how we did it before going all in. That is definitely doable! Having her work with any direct instruction with you in the morning and evening is an excellent idea, and the fact that you have Friday off is perfect. You could also use a little bit of the week d if you think that might work good. That’s the beauty of homeschool, it’s so flexible. Honestly, Homeschool doesn’t take the time that a typical traditional school day would. Once she is done with something she can just move onto the next thing. That’s one of the things my 6th grader loves, the fact that he can just move along and doesn’t have to worry about waiting on others. Once you guys find a rhythm that works for you guys it’ll be great! 🤗 keep me posted!
@@JoyfulYessi hi! We decided just to go for it! She left public school at the end of 1st quarter. Currently we work together about 2 hours in the morning and then anything she needs help with or graded in the evening. I think it's going pretty well. She definitely loves our Fridays together and always says she wishes we could always homeschool together. It breaks my heart, but she still prefers our homeschool situation 110% over public school.
@Plants_and_chickens Hi there! I’m so glad to hear that you have found a way to make it work for your family and that your daughter is loving it! The fact that she is enjoying schooling with you is so wonderful! I love the flexibility of homeschooling. The weekends offer also some opportunities as well. Thanks for the update 🤗 I wish you and your family a wonderful Thanksgiving!
At the very beginning when my daughter was in k4 that’s how we had started. However, now our schedule includes my husband homeschooling in the morning as well. I’m sharing with you this blogpost in my website that give a better picture of what our typical homeschooling schedule looks like 🤗 ➡️ joyfulyessi.com/a-homeschool-schedule-is-essential-to-a-working-parent/
I think the biggest challenge to a homeschooling, working parent isn't how to educate the children, it's what to do with the children while working. Yessi has free childcare in the form of grandparents, which is great. Unfortunately, that's not an option for us. I'm looking at hiring nannies to watch the kids so I can have some focus time at work. There will also be time when I'm working (from home) when the kids will have to manage and occupy themselves. I, very luckily, have the option of starting my work day at 6:30am, so I'll be able to get a chunk of work done before my kiddos even wake up. I'm going to keep them enrolled in their after school martial arts school, so that will give me another ~2 hours to get work done as needed (and hopefully some quiet time to myself). This is my plan. We are going to start with one child after the Christmas break, then the other after the school year. I'd love to hear any feedback and recommendations. Thanks!
You’re doing an amazing job planning this out! Homeschooling while working from home is definitely a juggling act, but I think you’re setting yourself up for success! Starting your day early to get work done before the kids wake up and keeping the kids enrolled in martial arts is a great plan! Something that I learned from when I was working from home during the covid days, I’ve found that having a few special, “just for work time” activities can really help. Another idea is introducing a daily “quiet time” even 30 minutes where everyone does something calm and independent can help too I love that you’re easing into it with one child after the holidays. That’s such a smart way to figure out what works before fully diving in. That's how we began with our youngest one first, we just tested things out. I’d love to hear how it goes for you 🤗 please keep me posted! You’ve got this, and I’m cheering you on! 💖 Yessi
Do you or have you use, used book material? if so how did you go about it? My husband and I are planning to homeschooling our k5, 2nd and 3rd grade for this 2024-2025 school year.
Yes, We use the Abeka curriculum and we absolutely love it! We use the Abeka academy because it comes with video lessons. We have done k4, k5, 4th and 5th and the upcoming year we are doing 1st & 6th. I take everything and organize it all into quarters for the entire year before the school year begins and then I put all the things into one binder quarterly. This keeps everything all in one place and efficient (I also have some videos here showing the process of organizing the curriculum 🤗) My husband usually has to work closely with the kiddos along the math class, and language. I work with them both with reading and I use the curriculum and the reading teacher manual that comes with it. The rest they follow along with the video lessons that come in the curriculum. I hope this answered your question 🤗
Our kids are done with the majority of their work 9am-12pm. Then I do about 30 minutes of reading. I actually have a blog post on my website Joyfulyessi.con called “Creating a homeschool schedule…” where I go more in depth about how our schedule looks like that will give you a better break down 🤗 Let me know if you found it helpful 🙂
Never! Absolutely not. My husband and in laws are with our children when I’m at work. I did explain this in the video. My husband and I collaborate on teaching our children. 🙂
