Really?! This is why I stopped collecting comics. In order to make things more shocking they go and revamp origins by making stuff up that's too coincidental. Snake Eye's origin for me is the Marvel Comics' one that Larry Hama originally wrote and that's it. I'm dreading to watch more of these GI Joe character videos to see what else these other writers have done to "spice up" their origins. I think someone told me that the Baroness who got burned pretty bad early on in Marvel Comics GI Joe wasn't really her. SMH.

I find it very interesting that Snake-Eyes' story is SO rich and voluminous that this in-depth profile still only scratches the surface. How his past intertwined with Wade Collins, Stalker, Storm Shadow, Firefly, Zartan, Cobra Commander, The Baroness, Hawk, Scarlett, Kamakura, Jinx, and Destro could comprise a Netflix series alone.
In the current comic series that IDW is doing Sean Collins no longer goes by the Kamakura code-name/call-sign he's the new, and current Snake-Eyes. Basically after the OG Snake-Eyes died sacrificing his life in order to kill a revived Serpentor in order to protect The Pit 3, Sean while out on a mission got injured, and while at the hospital Doc revealed that through either sheer coincidence, or fate the injuries Sean got were the exact same injuries his mentor received during the early 80s, complete with the same facial injuries, and the same severed vocal cords, Hawk then offered Sean the Snake-Eyes codename, and enhanced versions of Snake-Eyes' gear Sean accepted, however in order to complete his transformation from Kamakura into Snake-Eyes and at the same time protect his family Sean had to fake his death. Though a recent issue revealed that Sean's father Wade is starting to suspect that Sean is still alive and faked his death.

Out of every single toy, tv show, comic book or movie based on heros or super heros, Snake Eyes was my ABSOLUTE favorite character. Nothing came close. My mother searched high and low to find the original action figure which was damn near impossible to find. The Christmas I opened a present to see that it was the original toy was by far my favorite Christmas ever. That being said what they did to his back story in the live action movies crushed my heart. It was damn near blasphemy. I couldnt even watch them. My anger was almost to the point of rage. Sean is the son of Snake-Eyes old war buddy who followed in the exact footsteps of Snake's military career, was trained by the Arashikage, and his face was burned and vocal cords were damaged out on his first mission as a Joe. Dawn has the original Snake's memories implanted in her. Technically they both share the title Snake-Eyes but Sean was first and actually earned the title.

Nice round up JLS. As a kid from the 80s I loved Action Force (G.I. Joe) and thought Snake Eyes was about as good as it got for a childhood action hero. Seeing those old comic pages with Stalker and Scarlett sharing stories about Snake Eyes brought back good memories. Is there anywhere on the net that has those original comics scanned to view online?
Snake eyes and Flash with the jetpack and landing pad were my very first GI Joe's I loved the GI Joe's, with all the articulation over the Star Wars figures. Way more realistic. Snake Eyes is one of my favorite G.I.Joe characters from the G.I.Joe Lore! Snake Eyes is best known as the Silent Ninja from the G.I. Joe Marvel Comics and Cartoon. Snake Eyes never speaks in either the cartoon or Marvel comics from the 1980s! He is one of my G.I.Joe favorite characters!
The Red Mark on Snake Eyes represents the Arashikage Clan who he trained him in Ninjitsu Martial Arts with along with Storm Shadow. I liked his old look when G.I. Joe did the 5 Parts of the MASS Device he when he was obtaining the First Element to power the device the Radioactive Crystals he was caught in Radiation it’s also where he met his partner Timber he had his paw caught in a bear trap, a Blind old man treated his radiation sickness and helped him get back to G.I. I believe his sword fighting style is Katsujin-ken the life giving Sword fighting Style “One Sword keeps another in the sheath, sometimes the threat of violence alone is a deterrent, some times taking a life others can be preserved.” That’s the code the Samurai lived by. No, Snake Eyes is White, changing the character's ethnicity, sex and sexual orientation will be a disrespect to the character. That's just like making Wolverine Black, And Bruce Wayne/Batman Chinese, and Wonder Woman into an Hindu Indian chick. Bullshit!
You know all movies and tv shows are adaptations right ? Take the show Arrow and Flash for example. Im looking forward to the movie and idk much about his origin anway aside from this video. If they don't show it in the movie it won't be a big deal to me imo
@@Narutoanime16g I've seen the stunt men, and they're very good martial artist. The action will be good...not sure about the story Hollywood movies have sucked for a few years now, they're more concerned with propaganda then true artistic creations.
It’s been a year since this video came out and I could only wish that the people who did the Snake Eyes movie had watched this first. Such lost opportunity. Now the general public will never know the true story.
Snake Eyes the action figure was based on Hasbro wanting to create a simple GI Joe to use remaining plastic & moldings. Early Snake Eyes used "Grunts" body but painted solid black. Snake Eyes became the most popular Joe. Out selling many other figures.
as a 9yr old in 1982- my Dad, me, and my brother saw those first GIJoe action figures in a store- my Dad, who grew up with the Large GIJoes, thought they were neat and Let us get 2 each- this was before the cartoon came out in our area, no backstory, no real history, just that GIJoes were a redone thing and were American Soldiers, competing with the Star Wars action figures at the time- this was the first series- no swivel arms, pretty basic, I took the Blond Bearded Machine Gunner (don't remember his code name) and this Really Cool Looking Black Clad "Commando" Snake Eyes (as seen in the Video at 2:55) - became one of my favorite toys of all time- made up my own backstories about him, he was always a bad- a ss when fighting my other toys --- Later on they came out with the Ninja version with the wolf and the sword that everyone Likes so much- still cool, but I always prefered the older style- just a mystery man with an UZI
Yeah, I always thought that too. Didn’t Cobra Commander learn who Snake Eyes was and wanted revenge for the death of his own family in the accident (or did I just dream this...)?
@@cowpuddles4851 believe so...firefly was the first one to be tasked with destroying snake but he comes from a clan that knew arashagi so he hired zartan...I think but this going back to 83...84...but yeah he wanted him dead and wanted to corrupt storm shadow further...me thinks...
A character that forever gave me a "Good Guys can wear Black, too" mindset for commando ninjas in the mid-80's. I hope we get a Snake-eyes movie tone wise for the character as on spot as Bumblebee was.
As far as time lines, the Sunbow cartoon and the Marvel comics (now being continued by Hama at IDW) are definitely similar... but different. I've always considered the Hasbro toys -- while closely related to the comics (at times) and to the cartoon (other times) -- to be a third, separate, continuity made up of all the media directly connected to the toy line, including the blister pack File Cards, boxed toy Blue Prints, and the assorted mail away brochures that feature various missions described in a good bit of detail for you to send the toys on. The backstory included in the commercials and package copy for some of the sublines like Tiger Force and Sky Patrol was not always identical to the comic book appearances. There are even toy characters like Overlord who never really appeared in any of the classic media. If you watch the original advertisements for the comic books (here on you tube) you will find that while each commercial references a key plot point from the comic (or more accurately "that would ultimately find it's way into whatever Hama happened to be doing with the comic at the time"), the comic book advertisements (at least the early ones) kind of form their own overarching story that isn't quite the same as the comic. Watch the ending of the advertisement for issue #1. Most of the advertisement closely resembles the published issue, but it ends with a shot of a mystery guy (who is MAYBE supposed to be Hawk?) in a white helmet with a silver jetpack attempting to rescue the Burkhart stand-in from a never seen again Cobra jet car of some kind racing down a desert highway. Other than the presence of a jetpack, this scenario bares no resemblance to anything in issues 1 or 2. so I consider the advertizment story line -- spotty though it is -- as kind of part of the 'real' cannon story of the toy continuity. Heck, throw Hasbro 'Toy & Cassette' stories like Brazil Mission in there too!
I haven't been keeping up with the most recent comics. Last issue I read was shortly after the introduction of Dawn and her being given Snake Eyes's memories by the Brainwave scanner. Sean Collins was Snake Eyes on the actual Joe team. So is Collins no longer Snake Eyes? Is Dr. Mindbender still being controlled by Dr. Venom? Zartan and the Dreadnoks still on the Joes' side? My comic shop picked a terrible time to go out of business
Very informative, I love the Snake Eyes character. But why are you talking so fast? I had to rewind twice because I didn’t catch things you said. I’m just offering some constructive criticism here, slow down. Besides, doesn’t UA-cam’s algorithm encourage videos that are 10+ mins?
Christopher Lacher He left out the part that that symbol is tattooed on his right forearm. Just like Storm Shadow. It’s only on his shoulder on that uniform
Missed? Well... Kwinn arc, Dr. Venom as his nemesis, The Brainwave scanner, George Strawhacker his twin sister Terri's fiancee' The Baroness seeking revenge on Snake Eyes, Wade Collins joining Cobra because of Snake Eyes' actions in Vietnam, Sean Collins joining the Joes (he wrote the letter to Snake in issue 155) and also becoming Snake Eyes. G.I.Joe resolute and G.I.Joe renegades too. Although in actuality, to be fair, the entire Hama run both Marvel and IDW, Snake Eyes is the central character and most events are tied to him it would be difficult to tell the entire history in one video.
barkingfridge thanks for watching and leaving a comment! So you actually just touched on something that is a struggle of mine, I want to include as much of the biggest points/events as I can while keeping the actual video length to a “watchable” time. Because of that, things inevitably get left in the cutting room floor. That’s why I look to you and the viewers to flesh out the rest of the time line.
You left out the part about Snake Eyes' twin sister, Terri. You also left out the part about Snake Eyes meeting Storm Shadow and Stalker in the US Army Rangers. You also left out the part where Larry Hama based Snake Eyes on a real person named Robert Light of the US Army 101st Airborne Division. You also left out the part where Snake Eyes is a blonde white American in the comics, yet the Snake Eyes movie is casing a British-Malaysian actor to play him.
Scrolled down for this. If I recall correctly, Hama had Snake-Eyes, Storm Shadow and Stalker serving in Vietnam (and covertly in Cambodia or Laos) as part of a LRRP. It was on one of their missions when their transport huey comes under heavy fire and that is when Snake-Eyes is maimed.
@@CB-ke7eq Partially correct. Snake Eyes wasn't maimed, he was shot and wounded in the shoulder and Storm Shadow saves him and gets him to the Medevac chopper. Then later, at the hospital, Storm Shadow visits Snake Eyes and gives him the photo of his sister, Terri, which fell out of his pocket when he was shot, and which has a bullet hole in it. So the photo that Snake Eyes' sister gave him for good luck actually did bring him luck, in a way.
Larry Hama once said that snake eyes was based on a soldier he met while I. Viet name. Hama thought his name sounded like Ariel he later found out that his first name was Robert (R-L) Robert was a quiet but intense focused soldier, like snake eyes. Hama will not tell us the last name but we know that snake eyes first name is Robert.
@@jimdavis6519 hello Jim no Larry Hama based snake eyes on a soldier that was a door Gunner in Viet Nam,. Whose initials were R L Hama thought his name was Ariel but later stated that his first name was Robert. PS I have the tan grunt and regular grunt also. Thanks
if you really look back snake-eyes is really the first joe and it was a grenade that blew up on snake-eyes when he was saving storm shadow in the veitnaw war
I still have a snake eyes action figure from 30 years ago....not a collector's item...just my favorite toy, and I guess my strongest, all the other Joe's lost their legs but snake eyes held up!
Snake-eyes was recruited into G.I. Joe by Stalker, Hawk went along to meet Snake-eyes and confirm he'd join, who served with Snake-eyes and Stormshadow in 'Nam.
Nice- leading off with the back image of the 1989 Snake-Eyes! This remains my absolute fave version of SE's outfits- and this cameoed first on the cover of Marvel's G. I. Joe #91, before 'debuting' in G. I. Joe #95, Part II of the Snake -Eyes Trilogy. Liked SE, but I feel Larry Hama overplayed the ninja element. I much prefer him as a Commando. Its a shame that the 1980s G. I. Joe cartoon was never as remotely serious as Robotech, Batman: The Animated Series or Thunderbirds 2086- and its also a shame it was kiddified, ignoring Snake-Eyes' ties to Scarlett & Storm-Shadow, while thinking that Joe fans would buy the malarkey that the likes of Spirit or (worse) Quick Kick could take on, much less, defeat Storm-Shadow.
I vote Snake Eye’s “real” name should be Stanley Hama. Stanley after the original creator of G I Joe that pitches it to Hasbro. And do I really need to explain Hama? Yeah, Larry Hama.
Snake Eyes real name should be Robert Light, since that's who Larry Hama based him on, a guy named Robert Light of the US Army 101st Airborne Division.
Snake eyes did not first appear in issue 21. Issue no. 2 was the first issue of g.i. joe I got my hands.on in 1982. He was in that issue first for me and probably issue 1 even as an introduction.
Hi Matt! Thanks for the comment. Yes, I definitely misspoke when I said that, I pinned a comment the other day regarding that. 21 is Stormshadow's 1st. Snake Eyes first appearance is actually in Issue 1, we get to see him with the other Joes on a computer screen for the first time. I believe of the shots I used in this video are from that issue :)
I find snake eyes scary and cool like if you're on the other team and fighting snake eyes you don't know him at all,he doesn't talk, and you won't be able to find or win in a fight aginst him and if you survive you won't be able to trace him then it'll be too late for you
So on the IMDb website it states "Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins" is targeted for release around October 22nd of this year, with everything going on in the world I hope it isn't pushed back further but if it's needed for the sake of the movie I'm pretty sure people wouldn't mind
I vaguely remember when I use to collect comics that there was an issue in which Snake Eyes had plastic surgery to repair his face but then shortly afterwards a hot pan of coal was flung onto his face , scarring him once more. Also, he has blonde hair.
Only way I would even watch the movie outside of the 1.99 bin is if they would finally show what Snake-Eyes carried in his boot that was against the Geneva Convention, and if they would show his collection of Spike-Knuckled Trench Knives. Oh, and if they would redo the character away from what they've planned back to his original form...
Dawn Mareno is not the new Snake Eyes, she has his memories and skills (Brain Wave scanner effect), but other injured Joe, also trained by Snake Eyes took over the mantel, G.E. Joe will always have a Snake Eyes.
Thanks for watching everyone! Clearing something up quickly from the video: Snake Eyes’ first appearance is ARAH #1, Storm Shadow’s is issue 21 - the famous Silent Issue - I misspoke in the video, sorry!

I have a feeling they'll mess up Snake Eyes the movie, heard a little bit about the story line, didn't sound anything like the true origin.
of course its going to have a Woke aspect
@@snakeeyes007 You mean hollywood movies in general or specific ones ? and I hope the story is good I mean I like japanese culture
I wanna start reading comics or paperbacks on the character, anything I should look for?
SNAKE -EYES AND STORM-SHADOW . ARE MY TWO FAVORITE GI-JOE 12" ACTION FIGURES that I'm glad to have.
Snake eyes gave me inspiration for one of my characters i even want his action figure with genji so i can do a genji snake eyes team up
as a 9yr old in 1982- my Dad, me, and my brother saw those first GIJoe action figures in a store- my Dad, who grew up with the Large GIJoes, thought they were neat and Let us get 2 each- this was before the cartoon came out in our area, no backstory, no real history, just that GIJoes were a redone thing and were American Soldiers, competing with the Star Wars action figures at the time- this was the first series- no swivel arms, pretty basic, I took the Blond Bearded Machine Gunner (don't remember his code name) and this Really Cool Looking Black Clad "Commando" Snake Eyes (as seen in the Video at 2:55) - became one of my favorite toys of all time- made up my own backstories about him, he was always a bad- a ss when fighting my other toys --- Later on they came out with the Ninja version with the wolf and the sword that everyone Likes so much- still cool, but I always prefered the older style- just a mystery man with an UZI
This is one of my top 5 dudes!!
In the crash that left SE 's family dead the other car was connected with Cobra Commander...good video...nostalgic...
Darth Mual was snake Eyes?..awsome!!

Definitely one of my favorite.
A character that forever gave me a "Good Guys can wear Black, too" mindset for commando ninjas in the mid-80's. I hope we get a Snake-eyes movie tone wise for the character as on spot as Bumblebee was.
Can you increase the volume on these videos? I have it turned all the way up and still sounds like you are whispering.
@Andrew, You're right the volume is low.
Maybe if I lived in a cave it would be loud.🙂
Snake-Eyes premiered he was a Commando not a ninja he was made a ninja after the fact
Snake Eyes is dead?! Nope. I had to look into that one right away. Seems Hasbro deemed that story line non-canonical. Thankfully
Even if he isn't how badass can he be in his 60's-70's?
@@roguelead72 u do know comics don’t use time like we do
@@toren2099yeah I know, most of the original X-Men would be pushing 70 if they did.
Heck, throw Hasbro 'Toy & Cassette' stories like Brazil Mission in there too!
dawn has snake eyes memories but sean the son of snake eyes stalker and storm shadows LRRP friend and former Fred crimsion gurdsman
You left out the most important part: Stalker, Snake Eyes, and Storm Shadow served in the Vietnam War together. They were best friends.
Snake eyes was like the Boba Fett of GI Joe.
Think you so much from all of your friends at cobra
Snake eyes was my very first GI Joe action figure in 1982
Mine was ugly ass Grunt, then Flash. Man, those were the days...
Like the bit about thw symbol. Did not know that information. Interesting.
Christopher Lacher He left out the part that that symbol is tattooed on his right forearm. Just like Storm Shadow. It’s only on his shoulder on that uniform
Cannot wait for this movie to come out in 2020. Almost reminds me of Xmen origins Wolverine.
Nice. My favorite character is snake eyes and Scarlet then they are engaged. Hehe 😁
Favourite Joe: Snake Eyes
Favourite Cobra: Cobra Commander
Excellent video!
Missed?
Snakes always my fav , yo joe
The I-Ching Hexagram that Snake Eyes, Storm Shadow & the Arashikage Clan wear is the 63rd, not the 65th. 🤨
They’re coming out with a movie now!
Grunt s name was Robert. Robert graves that is who u described
Thanks

if you really look back snake-eyes is really the first joe and it was a grenade that blew up on snake-eyes when he was saving storm shadow in the veitnaw war
do u plan to make one on storm shadow?
I still have a snake eyes action figure from 30 years ago....not a collector's item...just my favorite toy, and I guess my strongest, all the other Joe's lost their legs but snake eyes held up!
Can you do a video about why snake eyes varies in different countries and can be with cobra in different countries??
When Gi joe was fist introduced to me I only had eye on shake 🐍👁 and as the years went by I eventually Grew to love 😍 him He's the Best 👍🏻
Jalen Ikezeue he is awesome that’s for sure! I have more GI Joe videos on the way so stay tuned 😎
Can you please do one on The Dreadnoks? Thanks 4 your great content as well ☝️
Snake-eyes was recruited into G.I. Joe by Stalker, Hawk went along to meet Snake-eyes and confirm he'd join, who served with Snake-eyes and Stormshadow in 'Nam.
My favorite g.i joe
This should be the snake eyes origin movie
Man this is older than i thought
The 89 version of Snake Eyes is just as cool as the iconic 85 version. 🐍👀
Snake Eyes first appeared in issue #1 of GI Joe though...
I vote Snake Eye’s “real” name should be Stanley Hama. Stanley after the original creator of G I Joe that pitches it to Hasbro.
And do I really need to explain Hama? Yeah, Larry Hama.
Snake Eyes real name should be Robert Light, since that's who Larry Hama based him on, a guy named Robert Light of the US Army 101st Airborne Division.
can you do a review of captain grid iron?
Snake eyes did not first appear in issue 21. Issue no. 2 was the first issue of g.i. joe I got my hands.on in 1982. He was in that issue first for me and probably issue 1 even as an introduction.
Hi Matt! Thanks for the comment. Yes, I definitely misspoke when I said that, I pinned a comment the other day regarding that. 21 is Stormshadow's 1st. Snake Eyes first appearance is actually in Issue 1, we get to see him with the other Joes on a computer screen for the first time. I believe of the shots I used in this video are from that issue :)
@@JLSComics I wasn't trying to be a jerk. Just trying to keep continuity.
@@mattbarnes3467 No worries, man. I didnt take it that way at all
I find snake eyes scary and cool like if you're on the other team and fighting snake eyes you don't know him at all,he doesn't talk, and you won't be able to find or win in a fight aginst him and if you survive you won't be able to trace him then it'll be too late for you
MY FAVORITE G.I. JOE CHARACTER!😇😇😎😎😎😎😎
So on the IMDb website it states "Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins" is targeted for release around October 22nd of this year, with everything going on in the world I hope it isn't pushed back further but if it's needed for the sake of the movie I'm pretty sure people wouldn't mind
I hope they still end up doing the Snake Eyes movie it sounds really interesting
It wasn't 😢😢
Snake eyes is an excellent ninja on the good side. 😀👍
a solo Snake Eyes film would rock but no chance in hell there will ever be one
Good job bro 💪
