This sounds like someone decided to superimpose new age teachings onto the ancient Tathagatagarbha tradition. There is no obsession with the present moment in any Sutra.
All we have is the present moment - in all schools of Buddhism. Most of us spend our lives thinking about the past or dreaming about the future. The past is gone, the future hasn't arrived so the only thing that actually exists IS the present moment. If you aren't fully present with what is happening in this moment, you're missing your whole life.

Buddhism is about liberation from life.

A being capable of creating the universe would not be so petty to want humans to follow a silly set of rules and punish people to eternity in hell for not following them. The whole idea of heaven & hell is absurd. What about people who died before Christ was born? Do they go to hell by default? Ridiculous
