  • DIY Terra Planter anyone can build || Making a Terraplanter in the style of a Dooa Terra Base.
    I have to wanting to build a terra planter and something similar to a terra base for long. I did not want to buy the expensive Dooa terra base or a terra planter for the project. Instead I wanted to do it as a DIY using a terracotta container. Finally after a long search found one suitable for the project in a local departmental store and picked it up the other day. The build is fairly simple. I wrapped a sheet of moss on the tumbler with the help of some sewing thread. I added a few pieces of driftwood to give a scaped look. (I just pushed in the driftwood pieces into the moss and the thread held it in place). Next I proceeded with planting. I used epiphytic aquatic plants for planting. Plants used are mini Bolbitis fern, Hydrocotyle Verticillata, Anubias nana and Selaginella for this project. I had a one gallon glass tank in which I placed a layer of ADA aqua gravel. I placed the terra planter on the gravel and filled it with reverse osmosis water. I added some duckweed to the planter and closed the tank with a sheet of acrylic that I had.

    Never heard of Dooa Terra before. Thanks for sharing the concept. I really like the outcome. I looked on line for the ' expensive Dooa terra base' and they seem to be more porous. Will the terracotta tumbler release the water fast enough? Does the moss break the terracotta or the Dooa Terra base down as it grows?

    • @TheUrbanNemophilist
      @TheUrbanNemophilist  2 роки тому +4

      Thanks. Yes it does and the wicking in the terracotta tumbler is very good. The moss will not break it rather use it as a substrate to grow.

    Very cool! Does this need to be inside a glass tank for the humidity? I wonder if it could just sit on a shelve if you keep the water topped off

    • @TheUrbanNemophilist
      @TheUrbanNemophilist  2 роки тому +7

      Thanks. It will depend on the atmospheric conditions I believe. If outside humidity is very high like in tropical regions it will thrive outside the tank. If the air is dry then this will need to be kept enclosed. The wicking from the terracotta wall may not be enough to keep the moss and plants hydrated.

    I've seen the DOOA terra on aquarium gardens website and have been sorely tempted to fork out the cash, but it is terrible expensive. Is this a regular terracotta vase/pot you are using? I really want to try making something similar with moss but also using orchids. Think how amazing that would look. This is truly beautiful btw, I love it!!
