- DIY Terra Planter anyone can build || Making a Terraplanter in the style of a Dooa Terra Base.
I have to wanting to build a terra planter and something similar to a terra base for long. I did not want to buy the expensive Dooa terra base or a terra planter for the project. Instead I wanted to do it as a DIY using a terracotta container. Finally after a long search found one suitable for the project in a local departmental store and picked it up the other day. The build is fairly simple. I wrapped a sheet of moss on the tumbler with the help of some sewing thread. I added a few pieces of driftwood to give a scaped look. (I just pushed in the driftwood pieces into the moss and the thread held it in place). Next I proceeded with planting. I used epiphytic aquatic plants for planting. Plants used are mini Bolbitis fern, Hydrocotyle Verticillata, Anubias nana and Selaginella for this project. I had a one gallon glass tank in which I placed a layer of ADA aqua gravel. I placed the terra planter on the gravel and filled it with reverse osmosis water. I added some duckweed to the planter and closed the tank with a sheet of acrylic that I had.

bEAUTIFUL!!
Thanks
Wow
Never heard of Dooa Terra before. Thanks for sharing the concept. I really like the outcome. I looked on line for the ' expensive Dooa terra base' and they seem to be more porous. Will the terracotta tumbler release the water fast enough? Does the moss break the terracotta or the Dooa Terra base down as it grows?
Thanks. Yes it does and the wicking in the terracotta tumbler is very good. The moss will not break it rather use it as a substrate to grow.
Very cool! Does this need to be inside a glass tank for the humidity? I wonder if it could just sit on a shelve if you keep the water topped off
Thanks. It will depend on the atmospheric conditions I believe. If outside humidity is very high like in tropical regions it will thrive outside the tank. If the air is dry then this will need to be kept enclosed. The wicking from the terracotta wall may not be enough to keep the moss and plants hydrated.
I've seen the DOOA terra on aquarium gardens website and have been sorely tempted to fork out the cash, but it is terrible expensive. Is this a regular terracotta vase/pot you are using? I really want to try making something similar with moss but also using orchids. Think how amazing that would look. This is truly beautiful btw, I love it!!
Yes its an ordinary terracotta tumbler. Thank you
beautiful...could you please let me know which moss is it..
Fissidens. Thanks
Did anyone else see the quite tiny spider? 6:37
Glad you spotted him/her. This fellow provided me company throughout the build 😀
Congratulation, I loved this video! Do you use some fertiliser into the water?
Thanks. Yes i will be using liquid ferts used in aquariums.
@@TheUrbanNemophilist thank you!
I have to try 🙂

Loved it!
Who is the artist playing guitar? What’s the name of the song?
Thanks. The piece is from UA-cam audio library. Details in description. Minor with cricket by Audionautix
Hi ,i really love your content ,and this piece was amazing.i jad a few questions .i live in delhi and in winters there is alot of moss hrre but all of it dies in summers how to keep h italive also it sometimes turn brown
Thanks. You will need maintain temp between 18-30 deg and using my propagation box method. Do bear in mind that all species of moss do not thrive in enclosed spaces.
@@TheUrbanNemophilist but then how can i know which species i have and if that can thrive in closed spaces. Pls recommend some forum where i can know more
@@ghaintsardarvlogs4471 try hypnum, sphagnum, fissidens or any aquatic moss like java, christmas, spiky
I am watching it again
You can use liquid ferts for plant growth.
@@TheUrbanNemophilist of course, stupid me. Thank you!!
Hi, I went through the video twice and read the comments. Still asking, if it is java moss all around or some other moss
Hypnum
Do we need to spray on the moss every third day
Not needed it kept enclosed
How do you keep wet and growing well?
Its kept enclosed like a terrarium
What kind of light do you use for these projects?
Just some white led light bars. Sometimes ring lights too
@@TheUrbanNemophilist thanks for info
Hello, what is name of the moss?Thank you.
Fissidens
Hello sir where can I find moss ??
In the forest, hilly mountains, aquascaping stores, your backyard. But always source ethically
Which moss is used
Fissidens
What is the moss used in the build?
Fissidens
@@TheUrbanNemophilist That is a slow growing moss, how did you managed to create a moss sheet?
Do the plants have to be misted daily or does the enclosure provide enough humidity to keep them hydrated?
Daily misting is not needed. The enclosure will provide the humidity.
for what is the duck weed

Love the craft, but man was that music annoying.
Thanks. I like finger-style guitar music. But yes the mixing and mastering could have been better.
