There’s absolutely no reason to do this manually with each material. That’s what the “texture manager” is for in C4D. When in the material view, click texture, then open texture manager, select all the missing textures, and then click edit, relink textures. Then just select the folder where you saved all the textures to re-link them in a single pass. Depending on your version of C4D later versions call this the project asset inspector and it’s found in one of the top level menus. I can’t remember the menu off the top of my head at the moment though. As a third alternative if your dead set on doing it the tedious manual way shown in this video you can drag and drop textures from a folder to the path field in the texture editor without having to type or copy/paste the directory.
@@rgx0015 save a “tex” folder wherever your c4d file is located, move your textures to that folder. Next in the project asset inspector just paste the full directory of the tex folder in front of each of the the file names of your textures that have a red X. If the file directory is correct after pasting the X will turn into a green check mark. You should be golden. I use this technique all the time to texture imports that sometime have hundreds of textures…
wait so they have no name? or you just don't know where the textures are, if you downloaded the model from like turbo squid or something it should come in a zip folder with a folder titled "tex" or "textures" the textures will be there, if it doesn't have that folder basically you just got a crappy model that they didn't upload the textures for.
@@alleyestutorials9822 Nah I think he means theres an obj file and a mtl file with the textures. But the mtl file doesnt have all the texures laid out as jpegs in documents. At least thats whats happened with mine
Best narration on a tutorial I've ever heard lol. You're right, other tutorials on this subject don't exist or they make it sound so simple and like everything just works and it doesnt so thank you!
my man,...youre right, nobody addressed this issue and i was losing my mind but glad to see you made a video about it. havent quite got it to work for me yet but def a step in the right direction at the very least
As someone new to Blender, I have to say it’s a little crazy that it has to be this hard to import the materials. At most, you should have to do it just for one, then it should find all the others in the same folder. Sheesh!
Hey, when I connect the textures to my model, they show up propertly. However the model, when rendered is still a semitranslucent ghost (without the textures that show up in my perspective view). Any ideas what's happening here?
Dude, love you. It's so simple, but really no one explains about it. Only thing is that it is a lot of work to reconnect all the textures if the model has a lot of them (like my one with over 50 textures to reconnect) haha
if you dont have the material files and is using glb format, try to open the glb file in microsoft 3d builder and export it as obj.. it will separate all the materials.
The problem I'm having is importing the obj into an existing scene. What ends up happening is that the obj opens but closes the previous scene where my lights are setup.
I keep having this issue where when I import obj files, everything becomes one solid object with a single material and with (from my knowledge) no way to separate parts unless I do it by hand. help?
yep I can help you with that when you click merge project or open an obj, a menu comes up, on that menu, there is on the option titled 'splitting' go to its drop down menu, you should see 5 options, it can depend on the file which one is going to work best for you and it depends on why you are wanting them split up. usually splitting by material is your best bet, if that doesn't split it the way you want to try the others. and if none of them work then the model you have downloaded is a crappy model, which happens often, that's the big L of downloading free models. Hopefully that helps! Did I earn a subscribe? (:
when i added it to its own project it looked good and worked but when i added it to an existing scene (ctrl+shift+o) it doesnt show up even when i put in the material :( pls help i am a beginner

Shhhhhhhhh! Let them relink textures one by one! Let them think C4D is problematic! Hahahahahha
oh man I love U u saved a lot of my time & my sleep :D..... i got some time until i understood how he do it then bam! took them all in
