  • I finally started the pool shed construction using excellent plans from the Jamaica Cottage Shop. I am trying to use as much of my salvaged lumber and other materials from our home build. This project needs to be completed by the end of November so that the pump and filter are protected throughout the winter and I can store the other pool related items and maintenance equipment.

Hi Tim! You did fine carpentry work! I see you’re still fond of hand tool like that drill brace ( I haven’t seen one of those used in a long time!) and the hand saw. On those loose anchors, you can install some news one next to them right through the wood with a hammer drill and masonry bit. I’ve had to do that on occasion. Thanks for sharing!

Hi Martin! Yes, the hand tools are all my grandfathers and it connects to him and my father when I use them. It makes me feel great to see them still useful. Thanks for the tip on the anchors, I did that method on my well house with Tapcon screws. Thanks for watching!

I think is awesome that you’re using your grandfather’s tool along side yours! Tapcons are great I have used a lot of them over the years.

Good job! I assume you had scrap 4x4s - more expensive than 2x4s, especially today. Have a good day.

Hey Misty Hollow! I didn't have any scrap 4x4s so I had to spend just under $100 for those. I should have everything else except for the pine door and trim lumber. I have lots of left-over 4x8 fiber cement panels from our home build for the walls, though, which are expensive. I think the lumber package from Jamaica Cottage Shop was about $4K. I hope to come in well under $400. Thanks for watching!

@@homesteadpilgrim Wow - that is a huge cost difference! Is the shed going to be large enough? I have learned that I never have enough storage space!

@Lodge At Misty Hollow, HaHa, the shed should be big enough for our needs. The left half is taken up by the pump and filter and the right will be the pool cleaning equip and supplies as well as any toys (deflated inflatables...). Once we start filling up the space, we will have to substract first before we add to the space! We are will not be hoarders unless we are talking about guns and ammo! LOL.
