Homestead Pilgrim
United States
Приєднався 27 гру 2015
This is my pilgrimage to explore and discover old and new ways to self-sufficiency on my homestead. This channel is also a gift to my family and future progeny to be able to see how I walked and talked and hear my life lessons and hopefully will be inspired to do their best, work hard, study hard, and play hard. As I age into my late 50's, I am now at a point in my life where I have the resources to do more of what I want to do. I remain a very busy professional at work and the homestead is my sanctuary and hopefully a destination for my family and friends. Peace and happiness to you all!

I picked up an aerator on Amazon and wanted to show you the assembly and usage. Perfect time to aerate the lawn since we had tropical storm Ophelia just pass by and dumped a lot of rain. We have a huge addition to the shop in the form of a Delta 10" table saw and the start of a big shop project to go along with the table saw, an outfeed table (thanks DIY Tyler!). I also have a big announcement that will greatly impact the need for the table saw going forward. I've been wanting to build this for a while so that I can haul many items around the homestead: Grass, limbs, logs, garden supplies, you name it. This utility trailer seems to be very robust and I hope it lasts for many years of hard work. You can bust it several times then take a rear tine tiller and work it up we do it every year
Thanks!
5:18 I had one bite me at work for several days until I finally looked up at the light above my desk and saw that SOB laughing at me. I hate those damn things. Next time I will look up after the first bite.
Sorry to disappoint you guys but home natural gas is a failer. The government has cut off natural gas to any state where power is out.
Propane all the way
Do you recommend someone that lives in a big city to buy one? Im interested and live in a suburb outside Dallas TX
We lived in a suburb from 2001 to 2018 and didn’t have any power outages, so I personally would not recommend a generator in the suburbs unless you have experienced repeated power outages
@@homesteadpilgrim Thank you
Tim it was great to see and visit with you this past weekend you and brother Dave are very special to me. love ya UNCLE GARY..
We have to get together more often!
Nice to see you!
Hey friend! Nice to see you too!
I love you, Pilgrim.
Love back!
Time to sharpen that chainsaw chain or replace it.
Done and done
Great video, nice work
Thank you very much!
Just got one of these Brinlys. Your video was extremely helpful. Thank you for the info!
Glad it was helpful!
In the uk many bramble stems are too well rooted to pull by hand. I use a weed killer in a sponge applicator and I paint the leaves. It's slow work but I only put it exactly where it's needed, so I use very little.
It’s a constant struggle
I just posted a video titled the Blackberry Bramble Wars lol I'm glad someone else has my sense of humor!
Hello, thank you for your video. I have a C3030 and I would like to know the outside diameter of the connector located at the end of the suction pipe that enters the drain hole. Thank you very much!
I've got this exact same running gear recently. I've assembled the running gear, but haven't put on the decking or rails yet. I'm stealing all of your build design and dimensions other than using the 2 X 4's on the outside of the decking. I'll use all 5/4's straight across, as I want to use this as a wagon to pull my nieces and nephews around the trails on our property, and want the deck to be flat for them. Thanks for making this video!
Awesome idea and application! I have a 1.5 year old grandson and a granddaughter on the way. I plan to plant a pumpkin patch and I could pull them up to the pasture to pick them up
Just FYI, those "boxes" go bad all the time.
Thanks
Hey I’m having trouble fitting the spacers they seem to be to big for the gap there meant to space
Good luck
@@homesteadpilgrim great advice lol
Excellent video, excellent job. I have a gravel drive about 1/4 mile long. I have an EA land plane that does a great job, also a few box blades with rippers. Two tractors, Kubota B2601 and MU5660. I need a scraper blade to reditch the sides. I have spent enough $$$, and have been looking at those County Line scrapers from TS. Just am not convinced my B2601 won't tear one up. They all say "medium duty", which means "will break if used". Thoughts?
My Landpride is sturdy after several years of maintaining my driveway. eA is the best if that is your requirement, but my requirements are mid-grade
Looks great! Did you consider putting some noise insulating foam within it to reduce noise when the pump is on?
Actually, I’ve never heard any noise at all. I assume because the pump is so deep in the well?
I'd be curious to see the contents of the trap once it's been emptied; to what degree is the setup effective against biting [black/horse/deer] flies vs ordinary flies (which are being lured via the smelly "trap 'n toss" bait)? I'm thinking about building a trap similar to yours, though I'm not sure to what degree I should get a lighter colour fly screen [so that the biting flies focus on the ball & then go straight up VS attempt to attack the trap from the outside due to the black mesh]. In either case, this is a great concept; those other "pro" $400/unit variants are way too costly, especially when you need multiple units. 😮💨 Keep up the good work my friend! 👍
Thanks, Tommy. The trapntoss at the top is filled up by the end of the season. The biting black flies are noticeably absent around our home since I started placing the trap by early June through October. That is the only hard evidence I can collect, other than the filled trap. Your other ideas are interesting and worth trying, maybe build one with black screen and another with lighter color?
Middle-aged white woman alert! 😅. Lots of good info. In this video. Thanks!
You are welcome, I think?
Signing For A Kohler System Next Week. Good Information In This Video. Thank You.
Good luck, sir! U won’t regret it
I like the way you understand that a driveway needs a crown. Some people drag it flat and call it good. Every driveway I build here in eastern NC has a crown. Great video sir!
Thanks 👍
What brand of rear blade. Video is 3 years old. Would love to see driveway today and see how it held up. Thanks for video.
Land Pride scraper blade. Each year I must groom the driveway due to rain and our cars.
How wide is the blade?
5 feet
Bet the neighbors appreciate that dog racket😢
We are in the middle of 24 acres , wooded. Our neighbors have a kennel of dogs that out bark ours, lol. Never had complaints on either side
Great work. Makes me wonder if my 3 x Great-Grandfather might have engineered the train your 2 x Great-Grandfather was on. ua-cam.com/video/rAlLICZmUyw/v-deo.html
It looks like you need a zero turn lawn mower for all that grass you have there, i love that lawnmower. I'm definitely getting one, but if i had your property, I would be using a zero turn
I do have a zero turn mower. Kubota Z411. See my videos on it.
Looks like it would be best to paint these parts John Deere green and yellow before assembly rather than after.
But the parts aren’t plastic like a JD, lol
it would be alot easier to get pipe on the t fiting if he screwed it in first
Thanks for the tip
What dimension Is building? What about roof pitch 5/12?
The footprint is 4 feet by 12 feet. I recommend purchasing the plans from Jamaica Cottage Shop for details
@@homesteadpilgrim Thank you, turned out good. I’m currently building a 5x12 pool enclosure. Thanks for the video.
Growing up, we raised about 500 acres of tobacco. I was never old enough to work the fields, but I always loved making teepees out of the stalks and sticks while my family was stripping and bailing the final product for market. Love this video. It takes me back. I just bought a few starts for my garden and I was telling my wife my grandparents would roll in their graves if they knew how much I spent on 6 plants at the local suburban nursery.
Great memories
Don't see anything in it?
Rest assured it captures flies
Nice home first of all. Second foam knee pad for gardening it’s a life changer for men are age!
Totally agree! I now use a foam pad to protect my knees every time
I don't think you had suction (sufficient). When you sucked liquid through the tube you created a gravity feed which allowed the liquid to flow into and through the Venturi. ua-cam.com/video/WP1OpRTRGoI/v-deo.html
Thanks for the note
Awesome! This answered my question. I have one of these and love it but only used it with a high pressure system. I have had to prime it before like you did. Was looking to use one with low pressure system. I'll give it a go.
Crossing my fingers!
Very nice build Pilgrim. Thank you for sharing your idea. Gonna do the same.
Thanks, Michael. Good luck and have fun.
Love the box blade process on driveway work!
Thanks 👍
I just bought the same model. Didn't figure that I needed a battery which is the top of the line model. This model is the 2nd to the top of line and will meet my needs just fine. Just an FYI but after this year Honda is no longer making lawn mowers. They will the parts, but no longer the mowers. So if you are on the fence about getting one you'd better get one !! Good video, thanks !!
Thanks for the feedback. I just prepped my mower for spring and it runs like new. Sad to hear Honda is getting out of the mower business.
@stevemauch4133 they are still manufacturing mowers, just not for the North American market. Thank your politicians for that.
60” or 72” land plane?
Mine is 60 GS1560
I should own the Z412 KW 48 in a few days, I used to operate a 54" Everide Hornet, when i first got going i almost hit the corner of my shed in a similar panic mode, I was told if i ever get in that situation again just LET GO of the handles, yep it just stops,You are gunna have a few of these moments before you get pro and it works.
Thanks for the encouragement. These machines are amazing but require careful piloting. Thanks for watching and good luck with your new machine
I am about to order this one. I need to get this clay soil I have l less compact. I plan on seeding some Bahia in the field I have (of clay and weeds) and in the inside of my fence continue the rye fescue. I have some leveling I will be doing with a harrow I bought so going to order some sand soil mix for that. nice vid take it easy with those cinder blocks lol
Good luck!
An open back cutter would solve the bogging problem. I cut twice that high with a Mahindra 1626 shuttle.
Yeah the HST loses some giddyapp so I just cut it before it gets too high
thats awesome knife and sheath, isnt that jaw sharp
The jaw is somewhat sharp but is comfortable if held just right
Waugh! That sheath truly shines.
Thanks!
Only thing that sucks about the ditch work is contamination of the stone dang pine needles fall on my driveway and make it almost impossible to groom a road without mucking up my road
Agreed but my challenge is leaves. Leaves are less of an issue than pine needles, so my grooming works well, I just have to stop every so often and clear the leaves from the land plane
Get a nice battery powered blower before grooming.
I bought a 1874 sharps from pedersoli 8 years ago in 4570
Awesome
I've never seen somebody paint or stain stairs working from the bottom-up. kinda scratching my head
We have 3 dogs that can only get to the back yard by the stairs so they had to be done and dry first
Wish you had a parts list I could just reference 😂
So sorry
Huhhh, Really? Did you not see the video? The very beginning shows all the parts needed and he vey clearly explains the sizes and uses for each item. Take a screen shot and watch & listen to the vid. There’s your list. C’mon man, use your head. Concerned: if you didn’t know to do that, I’m concerned about you handling a firearm…seriously!
I have the same setup (L2501 and RCR1260) and I'm thinking of adding Pat's quick hitch system. Because Pat's quick hitch adds 4'' of distance, I wonder do you need to use a PTO extender or replace the rotatory cutter's PTO shaft with a longer one? How much PTO shaft overlap is there in your setup? Thanks.
I have Pat's Quick attach on my tractor and I didn't need a PTO extender, however, I did need a longer top link which I posted a video about that purchase and install. I now use the longer top link for all my implements except for my middle buster that requires the stock top link.
Great to know. Thanks for the reply!@@homesteadpilgrim
I heard just the opposite. They never start when they are suppose to.
Ours has always started up when we had power outages.
