I share the sentiment that adding a bunch more mounts would sort of over-saturate them, but an underwater mount like you mentioned is something we definitely need and GW2 still has room for. Especially with the possibility of the deep sea dragon finally making their appearance in the Cantha expansion and the Jade Sea more than likely coming back. I hope that we don't get too many more mounts though, with the addition of an underwater one (or multiple, depending on if ArenaNet add unique mechanics to any potential underwater areas) I feel like that'd encompass all the niches and needs we'd ever need of mounts. We've got long jumps, high jumps, waterwalking, teleporting, flying, gliding, fast speeds, WvW compatibility; I don't think we'd need anything else.
I was thinking the same thing. Im always up for more mounts , but because its a new expansion and every new epension usually they do something new ( HOT had gliders ,POF had mounts) id be a bit disappointed if all we gonna get is gonna be the same things we already have. Tho just like withs specializations i wouldn't mind at least one mount like the underwater one it should be fine (because we don't have it). They add mounts outside the expansion so its not that special to me to be in a NEW expansion,so i dont see why would they add bunch, id rather have something more new to us and to be honest i have no clue what could be new selling point for that expansion .
the only other land mount we dont have that i could think of is a burrowing mount, like something that lets you burrow thorugh ground nad maybe even scale otherwise unwalkable inclines, but would stop at sharp land edges. it would be a pain in the *ss of program it though
@@legafredo Tying in with that, I'm still sad that the spider mount that climbed on special terrain including walls and ceilings was scrapped because it triggered the arachnophobia some people have. Granted, it'd probably freak me out eventually too, but it's still such a cool idea.
@@MasterRuss Yeah that would be interesting alongside with new specializations and maybe they'd add a new race maybe a new class but that would be such a hassle to do for them .... and then there probably would be a problem that there are people that play just PvE mostly so they might not be interested in PvP type group activities and that would be a loss for them 🤔 unless they'd think some sort of a way to attract even PvE type players. I still can't wait to see what they gonna do :>
I don’t know much about Canthan lore (or any guild wars lore) but fitting in with what you said in your other video with the wall and the isolation, maybe a stealth mount could be cool. It’s abilities wouldn’t overlap with any other mounts’ and it would be very useful to travel around the world unseen. So that it isn’t too overpowered, maybe they could do the same thing they did with the skyscale flight bar - a bar that depletes with use so you can only be invisible for a set amount of time - maybe infinitely if standing still (similar to hovering).
Combat mounts! Aka, mounts with combat abilities. Those may depend on the class riding the mount and on the weapon equipped, or they add a whole new mount gear system. Also they could offer upgrades for all existing mounts to make them combat mounts as well. New elite specialisation could tie in the mount combat system...
Fishing, Exploration by SEA, Underwater Rework, New Housing (Home system), they can go for a lots of new content for the next update. I dont think they going to add Mount since its POF exclusive.
I remember someone said before that they didn't do the spider mount because they thought some people might be upset a bit :D ANd to be honest i hate spiders i srsl do... but in game id love to ride one!!!! they can make it scary they can make it cute (that would be hilarious) i totally up for it and also yes underwater mount so i think they probably gonna add one atleast and them maybe later somewhere in the living story because we see them adding mounts outside the expansion too, but i hope they focus for some new content this expansion more
@SheriffenTV I think someone said it when the mounst was just released and we fought that boss way after so maybe they changed their minds? Maybe people started saying that they dont mind it. And honestly id love to get a spider like mount im so up for it i bet it would be very hard to animate because you can tell they do care about it a lot so thats another reason they didn't do it maybe :D im afraid of spiders but im still fine with it i think they are really cool...in games... :D and since they make mounts quite adorable they might make a spider a bit cuter and then just bombarde it with skins to make ti scary if ppl want to :D but we probably gonna get a water one first i think and its pritty cool too. Imagine everyone is probably thinking about a shark type and they give as a jellyfish id laugh my ass off :D
For canthan mounts, I thought indeed of the turtle but in a different way : It would be fast and crazy under water (riding underwater currents, diving deep in the ocean), but slow on land. The idea behind this is, we don't have underwater mount yet, sure, but if it goes on land as well, people can show them off on land, appreciating different skins and so on (because in the end, we do spend more time on land than in water, and Anet will want to sell skins !) There you go :) Thanks for the videos
I like the underwater "Currents" idea, an underwater version of the current Ley-lines .... after all, MAGIC caused the Jade Sea and Ley-lines are magic pathways.
I'd love to see sth like squirrels or monkeys being able to climb the vertical world of cantha. If I remember correctly there were giant trees also. Would add a completely new later to movement, maybe even being able to climb on the ceiling. Could be done with only being able to climb certain kind of walls.
Maybe the siege turtle could be add to WvW. You have golems to break walls, Warclaw to break doors, and siege turtle to attack players that are on the wall and behind the wall while also doing some damage to the wall. They are slow and require supply to summon so you won't be riding them everywhere but multiple players can hop on to it and shot. The enemy team would try to focus it down but if you can keep it alive, it can provide a lot of fire power.
I'd actually be a bit disappointed if they added mounts to Cantha instead of a different mastery sets. I'd love to see a faction-based or perhaps a trading/caravan based mastery system, where they could add Multi-person mounts, similar to the siege turtles, but having them be used to transport goods in a trading system.
Sorta like Black Desert Online? Using my very limited knowledge of that game, anyway. Assuming ArenaNet didn't make it so grindy, something like that would be interesting and potentially quite fun. Could be similar to Final Fantasy XIV's retainer ventures, as well as its recent Ishgardian Restoration updates with rebuilding efforts exclusive to gatherer and crafter classes to rebuild the city. Though I agree, I think *more* mounts would just sorta be boring. GW2 excels in the MMO genre for its unique interpretation of mounts with them having unique traits and even just riding them feels like an animal whereas in other games they're literally just a cosmetic that makes your runspeed faster. Even with just the mounts ArenaNet have released since Path of Fire's launch, it feels oversaturated and like there's too many to choose from. Adding more at this point would be more of a detriment, in my opinion.
@@neontenebrae1918 It's an idea I found on the forums, and I think it originally comes from Black Desert Online, but my experience with a system like this was Star Wars Galaxies, but that was a game where you could also place your house pretty much anywhere in the world, so not quite applicable to Guild Wars 2 XD. My thinking is that just as HoT introduced a game-changing feature like gliding, and mounts in PoF, Cantha would and should have something that again changes the way we approach the game, and trading was one example that I thought sounded pretty good, especially if it encourages older players to revisit older maps too, and it's something that could have it's own additions to the Guild Hall too. Factions/Alliances or some other type of system would also change things up a bit as well, which may be why they held off on coming out with an Alliance system for so long. We'll see :)
What makes you think we'll get new mounts at all, WP? We didn't exactly get more gliding masteries in PoF so why would we get more mounts in Cantha additionally to [Cantha mastery]? I don't think we'll likely see more mounts release with the new episodes of Icebrood saga and especially not with the new expac. Once Icebrood is over sso will the era of mounts.
No, but we replaced gliding with something better in most ways... Griffins and Skyscales. So how would you feel if you rushed strait to the new maps and say everyone running past on mounts and you were still just on foot? Of course, it would be cool to just say "no mounts in Cantha!"
@@broomemike1 I don't know about you but I tend to use mounts as a tool of movement while using my glider as a tool of controlled descent of escape in combat. Both systems have their uses and I wouldn't put one over the other as both are clearly flawed. There is no point in saying "We're selling Cantha on MORE mounts" because it would just be three living world releases stacked on top of each other in a trench coat. We saw the use of HoT masteries and Sand Jackal portals for instance in LS4 and LS5 and I don't see a reason why it wouldn't be the case in Cantha but there is no way they are going to sell their new expansion on what they sold their previous one. they cannot win with this. If it's quantifyable less mounts than PoF people will be upset. If it's more mounts people will be upset. The fact that it's mounts will upset people because of the "It's just a few LS episodes bundled instead of a full expanssion". It doesn't make any sense if you're actually trying to market it. "Buy now Heart of Jade, the new Cantha expansion that does what PoF did but in green!"
@@SinWeissfell So you actually think there is no overlap between uses of griffons and gliders? Did you ONLY use gliding to escape combat before PoF came out, or did gliding's usefulness change with the advent of mounts? Similarly, a new mount could be "Best in Slot" for a niche that we aren't thinking of. I agree that we don't have room for 6 more mounts, and that would fall flat for a sales pitch. But that's not the same as saying "No more mounts ever!" It will be interesting to see if Cantha's masteries are a mix of things (including possibly a mount) or just one central evolving idea.
@@eligore6908 Gliders were not made COMPLETELY obsolete. But they are much less used now that we have Griffons and Skyscales. And give me a single location in PoF that requires gliding... Clearly the devs (at the time) thought of mounts as the PoF version of mobility enhancement. It's harder to envision some "questers" mounted and some afoot than it is to think of some with a "break combat off a cliff" ability and some not...
Mike Broome I am not going to say anything that has not been directly stated by anet. there is no required gliding in PoF because the business model at the time allowed for PoF only accounts. the developers could not say with 100% certainty that a player would have gliding or mushrooms or wallows or any of the S3 masteries in the desert. So they did not make it a requirement to complete content. They did this so players would not feel forced to own HoT in order to get the rewards or experience content in PoF. (This is a quote from a livestream or interview pre PoF launch) This is no longer an issue for icebrood saga as anyone who plays icebrood will have PoF and HoT notice more updrafts, more bouncing mushrooms, the maps are designed for people ant many different mastery levels and completion. It is an interesting topic to see if expac 3 comes bundled with everything before it So the developers can continue with using all the tools at their disposal this also would impact decisions regarding new leveling zones, new races, and even the account bound nature of the mastery system.
If we get them at all, they will be in the form of outfits allegedly due to how much easier it is to program. I have been wanting Eve's outfit from the get go
There are a lot of candidates to pick or take inspiration from: Kirin. Temple Guardian . Stone Reapers. Kappa. Phoenix. Lurker (crabs). Kraken. Leviathan maw/eye/claw. Rockhide Dragon . Dragon Moss. Mantis. Blood drinker... Still, I wonder if it would be possible to include horses without making them lame next to raptors, skimmers and all the rest.
I don’t really want any of the other mount ideas. But an underwater mount really would be a good addition and would just make sense. Combined with making spears an on-land weapon and a long-needed comprehensive balance patch for underwater combat... throw in some cool underwater maps with large scale and... yeah, that’d go a long way toward completing a long neglected and unfinished part of GW2.
I suspect the Mastery in Cantha will be something else that focus more on traveling through high Vertical regions due to maybe Cantha becoming a larger city with 3 levels with the lowest level where the poor live with sewer stuff and criminal underword, the medium are the middle class and basic markets, and the top floor where the rich live with the high luxory shops are thus the World Map for the Cantha City ends up being a very Vertical level Map to represent the City becoming so large they had to build it up by building on top of the older parts of the City.
@@Zeivusgaming considering how pro human they are in the lore after isolating themselves, I suspect they may have began advancing their technology to create a lot of advancements. Thus the city may have the highest level to be more high tech and modern, middle level is more in between, and lower levels look alot like old Cantha similar to how certain cities in China and Japan have a certain era difference within certain places in their cities.
Yeah, I know that during Faction times the process of turning a Kurzick into a juggernaut was irreversible but maybe they found a way to turn people into temporary "lesser" juggernauts? That could work as a mount. Not that I am sure as to what its functionality might be.
I mean depending on how the story with the charrs end up being when the expansion comes, I could also imagine tanks as mounts. I mean we already saw and used them this episode.
I wouldnt mind a turtle for underwater mount rather than a dragon tbh. Also what about a monkey? Something that allows you to climb things? Maybe things that the springer cant land on or there is not much space to land?
For me personally, I'd like it if they went somewhere in the middle. Maybe one or two more mounts (and that's primarily to get some underwater movement), but the rest would be focused on something useful for the region. I also think it'd be neat if they could maybe include a few things from the other two, but I guess in a way that wouldn't make it so you HAD to have them - they just might get you someplace a bit faster, but one of the expansion masteries will get you there once you get it trained up. I never played GW1 so my knowledge of Cantha is super limited, though I imagine things will have changed since those couple hundred years I think exists between the games, and the land may have gained new mysticism to it to create masteries around. I look forward to it either way. I'm also just highly curious about what the guild hall will look like, hopefully my guild won't mind moving there for a spell =P
I'm surprised you didn't mention Kirins! Kirins are based on horses, and asides from an underwater mount, we don't have a terrestrial mount based on ungulates (hoofed animals). Every time they try experimenting with a horse-like skin for existing mounts, we get the awful "Pegasus" or the Deer skin for Jackal which looks nice, until you see it run. Ungulates have completely different set of movement than dogs/cats so I really think having Canthan expansion gives a unique opportunity to finally give us a horse-like mount: Kirin.
I would absolutely love to see a giant turtle as a sea-only mount, but not strictly like an underwater mount but as more of a ship. Skimmer's are great for bouncing between water and land, and uniquely they're able to traverse difficult terrestrial terrain such as the brand storms or sulfur deserts. What I would love from the turtles is to be a big multi-player water-only mount, like up to 5 players (a non-raid party.) I'd then have the various mastery lines in the Canthan expansion be about upgrading the various kits that you can equip onto the turtle. For example you could have a cannon on your turtle and the mastery line associated with it would make it more and more like a sea-born Destroyer. Another set of equipment you could put on the turtle would be a bunch of armor plating for a more melee ramming oriented turtle. A third could then be an asura-tech chassis on your turtle that lets you dive underwater like a submarine. Each mastery line would upgrade a specific chassis for your giant sea turtle and you'd have one chassis on at a time. On-water combat is not currently in the game so there is absolutely a space for it. As for underwater combat, I think the undersea chassis would be more movement oriented. In this way a giant battle turtle keeps the purity of purpose of the PoF mounts, underwater combat, and all all the HoT masteries as well, and only adds to the environments available to Gw2 map design.
I reaaaally hope they show the jade sea as still thawing and not completely liquified yet. It was by far the coolest thing about cantha imo and it wont be the same without it
Weird you post this video considering a conversation on discord yesterday. I proposed the idea of the Nian, theyre already quite similar to the Warclaw and Temple guardians though. Perhaps it might be more fitting as a skin. They could expand the lunar new year festival with cantha and they could be pretty prominant there. Their concept art is beautiful and there is links to the ocean with the creatures origins. That might be able to fit into the deep sea stuff we're theorising ? Now i think about it ....its not really mount related, but returning of Nians could be interesting for Cantha portion of festivals. The celestial challenge here could be using fireworks again and firing at the nian . Similar to the concert fireworks aiming / moving rifle stuff in grothmar.
It's interesting watching this post-underwater skimmer. I suspect the skimmer will act as the underwater default, and a few additional mounts which are specialised for new underwater features, such as for currents, or deep pressure. Especially in one of your latest videos you mentioned how the jade sea could be half way between returning to normal.
do we really need new mounts? I mean first expansion had flying, second one introduced mounts, but I don't really see much design spave for new mounts unless we're talking about an underwater mount. Maybe mount skins you can earn in cantha, outside of the gem store. I'd rather get surprised by some new unique horizontal progression mechanic.
A lot of ppls ideas sound like something they could very well make into skins. Kirin? Jackal skin, pheonix? Griffon skin and so on. Though I highly doubt Anet will give those as earnable outside of BLTC.
They could do a sort of "combat mount" thing, that kinda turns them into like a norn transformation or an asura golem, and they could be incorporated into PVE content like strikes/raids. Siege turtle doesn't need much work, Juggernaut could be like an iron-man suit transformation, they could come up with any reason for temporarily being a Juggernaut.
11:40 an interesting note on the sea. People have discussed the possibility of disabling old mounts or attempting to unlock the ability to use old mounts. Then i thought about it , if theres a lot of open water. Would Skyscale and griffon break it that much? There would be very few places you could take off. And youd have to try and maintain your height
I doubt they add any mount now tbh. Not only because the ones we have already cover all kinds of movemens (jump, dash, teleport, flight, etc), but also because each expansion came with a gameplay improvement of its own so far. HoT was focused on gliders, PoF on mounts. Question is : what will they bring with the next expac ? It has to be something that changes the way we play the game, just like gliders and mounts did when they came up.
I still think they could coalesce both Fishing and mounts into fishing boats as well as combat, travel, etc., boats - many of which with the idea of one pilot and others playing other roles, not just riding passively.
I think a cool idea with Cantha would be having atleast the core 4 mounts not accessible on Cantha to instead be replaced with Cantha specific mounts. Maybe they serve a similar purpose, or maybe they are very different. Or maybe they just give you some skins with the story and, like you mentioned, allow this as a way for Cantha only characters to get mounts. But, I assume they will eventually do a similar thing where if you own Cantha, you own all xpacs
After a release of news on something big is always a good time, because you just know that Wooden Potatoes can milk that little bit of information for hours of content
I wonder if there is a viable design space for "slow mounts" in the game? Like a golem battle suit as a mount, and it's designed to be tanky instead of fast? Maybe that could work for the Kurzick juggernauts. It would be a bit of a gimmick used for content where you need a tank suit to move past an obstacle. There could also be a "stealth mount" again doesn't really move fast, but can stealth past enemies. And let's not forget the ever-absent underwater mount.
Hmm, i'm not sure people would use a slow but tanky mount. If you have the Jackal Masteries unlocked, the Skimmer can get long periods of invulnerability, especially if combined with bond of vigor.
I for one think they should add variations of mounts. Lets say that 10 mounts serve different utilities and it basically cover every movement you can possibly want in the game. However with variation they could add different kind of spring mounts, different kind of underwater mounts and different kind of flying mounts without making the old feel irrelevent
If they don't bundle the expac with PoF then a good way to ensure all new expac owners have a mount is by making a Canthan skinned version that is unlocked via the story/achievements at specific intervals. This makes it rewarding for both new and old players. Perhaps the expac could expand on the existing mount options with new mysteries as well. I would only add one or at a push two new mounts and a Sea Turtle would certainly be a good idea. It could be slow and lumberous on land but have an essential skill like push/pulling objects to solve puzzles ala Zelda BotW while underwater it could be swift and tanky.
I certainly could see an underwater mount being a workable possibility, as mentioned in the Video; Sharks, Dragon-like, Crabs ( Big Crabs, my personal choice ), or even Turtles. We already know of the Kraken ( most commonly seen around the Jade Sea ) The Leviathans, ( also around Unending Ocean, Sea of Sorrows ) even simple Armored Fish ...... Anyhow, its sensible in that we need something UNDER-water, ( after all, there is a LOT of it ), Where the Skimmer travels above the Water, what about new Mount skills allowing it to undertake under-water travel as well. These new mount skills again utilizes the "Mastery" points system, its certainly workable and has been done very well.
My immediate thoughts to new mounts would be kirins, that maybe could take you through corrupted areas since they were used as a cleansing mechanic. Turtles, faster underwater movement since we lack it. Also a good tie in with the luxons as WP mentioned. And for some reason my final thought goes to the Phoenix. I know they were used as pets in the old gw and the rainbow version was only aquirable in eotn, but dang it i want my beautiful mythological bird to become the new competitor for an air based mount.
In gw1, there was those massive phoenix colored fish in certain areas of the game campaigns. I was hoping they would be elaborated on. It might work as an under water mount
Aw yes! I don't know about the mounts, but I definitely want to see Island Guardians in the future! I would've wanted to see the similar model Cracked Mesa or other stone creature, the Stone Shard Crag, in the Elonan region.
I would appreciate some history on the jade sea, if you haven't done it yet. I thought, from what I've seen that it was water transformed into jade, not just frozen, so I'm curious about the idea of the jade melting...can you go into more on that topic of the lore?
Ok since we got HOT gliding and POF mounts, maybe we'll get a different mobility option, perhaps a grappling hook, complete with climbing gear to scale walls, some masteries for using shortcuts in walls, perhaps giving you some stealth options, going with Oriental/shinobi theme
Easiest thing for them to do is to make the first 4 mounts a core feature and have the masteries be the expansion feature instead. Then they can have only one or two new mounts in Cantha to achieve some feature parity with PoF having three more, and not waste dev resources on stuff that's already made.
If we get an underwater mount, we need a new use for swimming speed infusions. So what would be the point to use them then? Maybe we use them in bunches to unlock it. And maybe it also affects the mount when equipped.
I only thought a seaturtle (or maybe a seadragon like saltspray) would become (underwater) mounts. Slow on land, like a tank, but very fast swimming underneath the surface of the water. Or maybe a whole other means to cross the seasor fight on them: battleships/battle-seaturtles? Otherwise there would indeed be too many mounts, if they implement more land ones.
Ya'know an underwater mount may make underwater combat more viable. They could give the mount combat skills and incentivize it as the main method of fighting mobs underwater. Balance would be easier and help ensure the skills themselves are engaging.
i think it'd be neat if, instead of unlocking new mounts, we'd unlock skins for existing mounts that totally change how they look. this avoids the problem of bloat but there's still the issue of new players wanting mounts. maybe these new mount quests could unlock the mounts for those new players, but they'd have to go back to the crystal desert if they want the pof skins for the mounts.
Not really mount idea but I thinking something neat could happen with the roller beetles in Cantha maybe in years of separation from the outside world maybe different kind of roller beetle developed there and they be ranger pets now with some interesting story to them.
maybe the saltspray could be amhibian and have both some sort of underwater abilities to make it stand out from skyscales and such whilst also being useful on land? also i could see a kirin skin for the jackal being added since those are a thing in cantha
The rotwollow's reminds me a lot of the plated behemoths, which i still wish you could tame as a pet, that would be so cool! Edit; the dwarves in the new dungeon, are also riding drakes, and can be dismounted just like the mordrem, and they're completely new models as well.
I'd be cautious with that. I made myself excited about a lot of creatures i liked in Nightfall that didn't make it into PoF and was disapointed. Things have changed in Cantha so it's probably better to be curious about that and what cool new things there will be.
Saltspray dragons yes. Kuunavang should be exclusive mount skin for gw1 players who collected him as mini in Hall of Monuments. And concerning mechanics, it should be able to go above and under water.
My mastery prediction is it will be more zelda format-ish. We have several movement things. I expect next will be more manipulative masteries. One that gives us great strength letting us move or throw special objects. Another I expect will be some form of grapple. I know we have oak heart essence but I expect this one to be about either just pulling things to us or tethering and dragging. Or maybe we don't get an underwater mount but we can tether to dolphins or something and they pull us past fast currents we can't swim thru alone or acts as taxis on set routes and we use like a highway. I expect some form of explosion. Unsure if us just getting bombs like Sab or if it will be like newest God of war and the lightning arrows can detonate special sap. I personally prefer us getting several aspect/elements masteries and we learn new ways to apply them as we go. The last type I think we may get is part of a rework for racial skills and allowing you to learn other races racials as well as enhance them for out of combat use. Then racials just become the ones you start with. To me hopefully we either see a rework and building up to underwater combat and exploitation. Or we see it to racial skills expanding what those include to OoC functions as well as learning how to use other races abilities. I could easily see different existing racial skills being used for what I talked about here. Golem suit for strength for example
Juggernauts as Giant plant based armor/golem suits. Sounds interesting. Could be a "mount" that gives us immense strength. It's not really faster but its bipedal nature lets us lift move and manipulate large and heavy objects
Very excited about the idea of a new expansion ! The last two were an absolute blast to play, and clear highlights of my time on this game. Though, for this next one, I'd love to join one of the spud club to share the experience with cool people. Played the game mostly alone in the past, but that was another me ^^. Also, I see WP you did start adding your patreon link on each new video, and I can quickly estimate the maths are going the right direction ! Happy for you and will soon contribute. Again, you have a lot of margin before you even remotely get close to being perceived as a money grabber, so don't worry at all and keep the hustle. You have done amazing work, for your audience, and quite honestly for arenanet ^^. You deserve good time and career success ! Cheers
Just like how HoT and PoF were very different from each other and did not crossover in terms of similarities of masteries & features, and the icebrood saga have its own raven mastery and stuff. I feel like the cantha expact will not have it's own mounts cause mounts are PoF's uniqueness. We'll definitely see totally new masteries and perhaps it will be underwater masteries. Who knows, perhaps we will get masteries that let us have creatures follow and fight for us, and maybe we can even ride em.
The siege turtles would be badass (also think of all the skins potential as well -with different tiny fortresses/bunker thingies on top and whatnot) -also dare I say having them in WvW as well (and I know people hate any idea of mounts there but how about a new map that would allow them) -but even in PvE only they would be cool.
I would honestly just add new elements to our current mount list. Skimmers that can go underwater is pretty viable. Maybe add a canthan necessity aspect to them, but any more and it’d be kinda too much imo.
Are you really sure that the Jade Sea is liquid again? *Can* the Jade even melt? Because there is a Block of Canthan Jade with a petrified sea worm in the secret archive of the Priory that's standing firm to this day.
While conjecture, stories spread that in the six years after Shiro's defeat, small pools of water were forming in the Jade Sea. It is supposedly still mostly frozen by this time. Obviously a lot can happen in the 250 years following these events, when GW2 takes place.
I really wonder how they would handle a Seige Turtle. Personally, i think it should be WvW-only, and not link into the conventional mastery system - more the wvw ability system. They have a number of underlying issues to address when it comes to "skill lag" and the prediction mechanisms an online game would do. Usually they can predict the enemy upcoming position and relay the info to you intime. However the more people, the more lag. The more skills used can also affect this. However... i guess if people are mounted, there will be less skills being used in the open area. Interesting balance. They could have one person as the person moving, one on a turret. Im curious how they would handle targetting whilst having another player in your team on the move. Might work alright if theres a limitted moveset. I know moving on the airship and using skills has had odd effects in the past. The way i see a seige turtle is, you dont just Mount up like normal. You go into it similar to say the seige devourer in the gw1. I dont want to see every player using a turtle. We could have a turtle squad with people focussing on different wvw abilitiyes (masteries). They would move pretty slow and require some escorters to make sure they get there. Maybe have a few spawn every so often at the keep. A lot of effort to move it around but worth it, a moveable treb kind of thing, with the tradeoff of it being slow and people could sabotage your journey.
The number of times i have mistaken the skyrim soundtrack for the old-school guild wars 2 soundtrack in your video is more than the amount videos you have on this channel, after all they're made by the same composer
The turtle could be a good submarine mount... Devs seem to put more and more focus on water combat, the deep sea dragon is eventually coming. It would make sense
They noticed that they were making the same mistake as GW1 where they had to basically redo all of their work every time. They fixed this by making Path of Fire include Heart of Thorns. There will not be *any* players who *only* own the Canthan expansion, by design. If we get new mounts, they won't compete with the ones already in the game, nor will they directly compete with Heart of Thorns masteries. An underwater mount and some kind of siege mount are pretty much the only new mounts I can think of us ever having space for. Anything else will be a new appearance for an existing mount, or not a mount at all.
I think they need to lock mounts until you complete the expansion story. This will give the devs a bit more freedom of how to make the new maps. So make unlocking mounts so you can go back and get hidden areas in the maps after you complete the story.
Imo mounts should be restricted to PoF and Cantha should have its own unique movement system or none at all. I miss the non-mount gameplay and would love to have Cantha be more HoT-style, especially Echovald and Kaineneg (zip lines?). The only space I see mounts in is melted Jade Sea, but an underwater mount could be filled in in Icebrood Saga. Juggernauts could become a unique variety of golems if we ever get some Canthan WvW map. Kirins could very much be a skin for Jackal and Saltsprays a skin for Skyscale...
Personally, I'm hoping for like three new mounts with unique movement mechanics but then also unlockable Cantha themed skins that completely change the appearance of our existing mounts. A bit of variety for those of us who think the pricing of premium skins are taking the piss.
They could unlock all the old mounts with the expansion (maybe with a new skin to blend them in), but you still need old content for the old masteries.
make a saltspray (or how this waterdragons are called) as a final mount at the end of end of dragons that can fly endless and can dive under water. the ultimate endgame mount
I don't like the idea of getting any mounts in the Cantha Era expansion. HoT was Gliding (and several other masteries but you can make points for the other masteries in PoF), PoF was Mounts... Cantha should have it's own expansion defining mastery. (Edit) Mounts have their place in the PoF expansion and Living Story/Saga between that expansion and Cantha. I've seen other comments about over saturation of mounts and I 100% agree with this. Mounts in GW2 aren't like mounts in WoW, Swotr, and FF. They've got their own abilities and niche, leave them as is.
@@moxsatron8351 Another big feature that they could add with the new expansion could be alliances, along with other things like guild battles.
I still can't wait to see what they gonna do :>
Hey man you’re great. Appreciate what you’ve done for the GW2 community!
Junior Kainde I agree but to add a underwater mount won’t hurt imo.
@@RyanRen7 Well they can add that as bonus for new living world after the cantha expansion
the 3 mount ideas i can still realy see is a mount that can crawl up walls and roofs, a mount for groups and a underwater mount
For canthan mounts, I thought indeed of the turtle but in a different way :
It would be fast and crazy under water (riding underwater currents, diving deep in the ocean), but slow on land. The idea behind this is, we don't have underwater mount yet, sure, but if it goes on land as well, people can show them off on land, appreciating different skins and so on (because in the end, we do spend more time on land than in water, and Anet will want to sell skins !)
There you go :)
Thanks for the videos
I like the underwater "Currents" idea, an underwater version of the current Ley-lines .... after all, MAGIC caused the Jade Sea and Ley-lines are magic pathways.
it's such a good idea!
What about Kirins? :D like the one in Zen Dajun? Or for the Hylek-like bettles, they could use the Mantis!
i think there will be a dragon mount
Kirins omg I'm a fool, i could totally see that!
@@jamesbackhouse9506 we alrerady have one
Or even a phoenix like the ranger pet
@@doodlebop8930 it could be like a deep sea dragon underwater mount
This would be something tho!
But that's not the same as saying "No more mounts ever!"
It will be interesting to see if Cantha's masteries are a mix of things (including possibly a mount) or just one central evolving idea.
(This is a quote from a livestream or interview pre PoF launch)
This is no longer an issue for icebrood saga as anyone who plays icebrood will have PoF and HoT notice more updrafts, more bouncing mushrooms, the maps are designed for people ant many different mastery levels and completion. It is an interesting topic to see if expac 3 comes bundled with everything before it So the developers can continue with using all the tools at their disposal this also would impact decisions regarding new leveling zones, new races, and even the account bound nature of the mastery system.
the armor design in gw1 was so good bring some of these back anet pls :D
If we get them at all, they will be in the form of outfits allegedly due to how much easier it is to program. I have been wanting Eve's outfit from the get go
Or Bring Back ritualist, derwish hahahaha
There are a lot of candidates to pick or take inspiration from: Kirin. Temple Guardian
. Stone Reapers. Kappa. Phoenix. Lurker (crabs). Kraken. Leviathan maw/eye/claw. Rockhide Dragon
Oh, and fix the current lack of decent accessible underwater headgear along with adding new armor skins for that slot.
Assuming there is anything left there. Even the tengu don't know much about the city now
@@Zeivusgaming considering how pro human they are in the lore after isolating themselves, I suspect they may have began advancing their technology to create a lot of advancements. Thus the city may have the highest level to be more high tech and modern, middle level is more in between, and lower levels look alot like old Cantha similar to how certain cities in China and Japan have a certain era difference within certain places in their cities.
I can see both a "Juggernaut Form" or Siege Turtle mount being incredibly useful for various PvP or WvW ideas...
It was by far the coolest thing about cantha imo and it wont be the same without it
A new race would be awesome tbh
a giant Moa for humans, a Dolyak for Norn, a siege tank for Charr, a golem for Asura and the Sylvari some kind of snake plant like a giant iboga
Funny coming back to this and seeing how accurate the Siege Turtle talk was.
I still think they could coalesce both Fishing and mounts into fishing boats as well as combat, travel, etc., boats - many of which with the idea of one pilot and others playing other roles, not just riding passively.
Perisemiotics How about just... boats?
I don't want new Mounts unless it's underwater mount or fully flying mount. All other niche are filledm
A Mole? Digging into the ground and exploring new territories? Some might say, a new mount like this would be ground-breaking!
We would love a big 2 or 3 seat turtle ourselves :) but you had some real fun ideas here Wooden Potatoes. Thank you for this video and the smiles.
Really surprised you didn't mention the Kirin at all considering how horselike they were, always found them cool.
I had a crazy idea around juggernauts, Taimi's illness is going to kill here so she becomes a juggernaut to save someone and stops herself dying
I think were getting and need an underwater mount and then maybe 1 or 2 more unique ones specifcally for Cantha environments
Once you have the skyscale there is just no need for any other mount. other than occasionally needing to wall break with the beetle.
Come on cyberpunk Kaineng; come on hoverboards, come on speeder bikes, come on motorcycles, come on vehicular mounts
I would love for a mount that grows with your experience level. Adds new skills over time and grows like aurene does with your progress as a hero
The turtle could also be the new guild hall that will certainly come with the expansion
Not really mount idea but I thinking something neat could happen with the roller beetles in Cantha maybe in years of separation from the outside world maybe different kind of roller beetle developed there and they be ranger pets now with some interesting story to them.
really hoping there’s only 1 new mount, 2 at most... the list is already crazy long as it is
Watch the new one be both a gold sink like the owl and a time sink like the skyscale
And i barely use my griffon now after skyscale lol
Sento _ same, I only use the griffon for the speed which I hardly ever need
@Zach cash Can't the skyscale land on sheer surfaces? Or am I getting them confused with something else.
@Zach cash co concept, i also want a spider mount lol. Idk but cantha seems have steeper cliffs than central tyria?
13:00 do you have a tonic to show off the salt spray
I think the question is more about what more could they add with utility versus mounts.
Might sound Dumb but maybe the turtle's could be like a guild mount that the guild could work together as a like a mass transport....maybe?
My Heart for the Jade Sea. I realy looking forward to go Back to my beloved Luxon :-)
I feel with you I feel same about my Kurzicks :)
maybe the saltspray could be amhibian and have both some sort of underwater abilities to make it stand out from skyscales and such whilst also being useful on land? also i could see a kirin skin for the jackal being added since those are a thing in cantha
The rotwollow's reminds me a lot of the plated behemoths, which i still wish you could tame as a pet, that would be so cool!
Edit; the dwarves in the new dungeon, are also riding drakes, and can be dismounted just like the mordrem, and they're completely new models as well.
Would really just love to see a video on all the possible mobs that could come back. Those look awesome and they all seem unique
Cheers
It has been a long time since I have played GW1. It is still such a beautiful game.
Juggernaut carrying us as the mount lmao
WP will there be a playthrough comming up for the new patch with the new mission and then awsome part around Almorra?
Would be nice to have some sort of tech based mount
Either charr or asurian tech based... maybe some other faction like the Tengu
The turtle could be a good submarine mount... Devs seem to put more and more focus on water combat, the deep sea dragon is eventually coming. It would make sense
I figured Krakens and Sea Turtles would be the obvious choices for water based mounts.
Anything else will be a new appearance for an existing mount, or not a mount at all.
take the turtles and turn them into battleships where you can fight on the water, board other "ships", loot them and knock enemies overboard
A new weapon would be awesome, like twohanded battleaxe or a spear that you can throw like that one npc in eye of the north
Ranger should have had great axe all along
Polearms like glaives, halberds etc.
Turtles? Ah yes the one you fly with
I think they need to lock mounts until you complete the expansion story.
I would be fine with no new mounts, but they add in game earnable reskins for existing mounts. Turn your Raptor into giant chicken or something
so Cantha is technically to the north of core Tyria as was revealed by Bangar, also lets get Luxon Turtles as an underwater mount
If nothing else, this video explained to me why the Solid Ocean fractal has that name :0
They could unlock all the old mounts with the expansion (maybe with a new skin to blend them in), but you still need old content for the old masteries.
The new mechanic should be a follower! You can customize as if it was a player character.
I think that a juggernaut mount could work with a norn, just do a fireman over the shoulder throw
What about the spider mount they already made but never released.
make a saltspray (or how this waterdragons are called) as a final mount at the end of end of dragons that can fly endless and can dive under water. the ultimate endgame mount
Thanks for the info Tatoes!!!!!
I don't like the idea of getting any mounts in the Cantha Era expansion. HoT was Gliding (and several other masteries but you can make points for the other masteries in PoF), PoF was Mounts... Cantha should have it's own expansion defining mastery.
(Edit)
Mounts have their place in the PoF expansion and Living Story/Saga between that expansion and Cantha. I've seen other comments about over saturation of mounts and I 100% agree with this. Mounts in GW2 aren't like mounts in WoW, Swotr, and FF. They've got their own abilities and niche, leave them as is.
I don't want any New mount. The only one I would be okay with be an underwater one. And that's it. :)
