  • The 2020 C8 Corvette has another new recall for the front trunk or "frunk". Hopefully this resolves the issues of the trunk lids flying open while people are driving their new C8 Corvettes.

      You owned the car for two week. I highly doubt you can say with confidence that its just "user error" that the hood trunk flies open. There are plenty of things out of hand in the electrical world that you really don't assess in the video and is an aspect of why the recall most likely happened in the first place. Yes it could just be people being dumb or just slightly misjudging or not realizing the situation at hand with the slight variation in hood latches in this day and age. Most of us will agree that after a year in a car you know its quirks much better than 2 week in. I am not saying you are not correct you very likely will be.

      Any idea when the update will roll out to the dealers?? I can't pick up my car due to the recall...

    I agree. Closing the Frunk does take more attention than a traditional front lid. I wish their was a soft close on the Frunk lid if at all possible. Thanks for explaining the situation. I was confused reading about the recall on one of the forums. All this being said it is one hell of a car and fun to drive.

    • @CarsCostsandTechnology
      @CarsCostsandTechnology  3 роки тому +1

      Yeah, I would definitely prefer a soft close option like in the back. That's a great idea 👍🏻 I still love the car though! This is just something minor that should be worked out soon.

      Knowing GM, I wouldn't be surprised if more recalls occur. Most likely will be a issue with transmission or premature interior wear or AC stop working only after 3 to 5 years.

    Thanks allot you 9 owners that are jamming us up over closing the frunk liid. One click will hold the lid down . What is happening is the frunk is being opened when these owners are closing the driver door. I In the door pocket are two button that before you start the car can open the front or rear lids. The button releases both the latch and the safety with only one press of the button. When you use the pocket to close the door instead of the door pull your pushing the button and then ignoring the dash and auditor warning and drive away with the truck open

    • @superchief15
      @superchief15 3 роки тому

      They made it 26 mph because they couldn’t believe the driver would ignore the warnings!

    • @superchief15
      @superchief15 3 роки тому

      Gee, I guess they could put the hinges in the front for the drivers that can see, hear, or feel the car is only going 26 mph!

    Amazing a recall for user error. GM built the C6 Zo6 for 8 years with a faulty engine, Heads, and refused to repair the problem. That was a 100% factory problem. Yet with the new C8 they are scrambling to fix a user error problem.

  • @mikecummings8734

    The back trunk closes by a soft push of the hand . The front trunk has to be manually closed. There could be some confusion there.

      Put the hood the other way. Have it open like the hoods on the older vetts.

    Interestingly, when I brought my C8 in for a couple of items, my dealer informed me that there was or is no recall in connection with the frunk. 2 latch systems noted. In my opinion a lot of the frunk openings have to do with inadvertent application by the fingers of the frunk, when intendiing to open the rear hatch. That front speed should be reduced to 20 miles per hour to prevent the wing effect. The key fob should be modified. I like the mention that you provided about the key fob. This is because of the design of the key (which is really good looking) so that the frunk is not so easily accidentally opened through being pressed when carrying the key within the pocket. The traditional system is fine, but a small lever instead of a seconde press would be a wonderful addition. I do not see Chevy doing this, but perhaps an aftermarket company can develop something to stop the frunk opening. It is hoped that inadvertent outside signals to not activate the key. I have had the frunk "randomly" open on my while I'm in my garage with the car. I also nnow examine the front to ensure closure. I've also found the rear hatch ajar when I don't recall opening it and I believe once again that the button get pressed while carrying the key in a pants pocket. I don't think a woman's purse would cause this issue. Good job in this presentation as hyou provided original content! AF

    Glad to hear they’re doing this software update. It’s definitely a smart idea to limit the speed, so if someone were to possibly hit something, it’s at least at a relatively low speed. I also think this issue is a matter of the user rather than a fault in the car itself. I can’t tell you how many of our customers at work drive with slightly open doors, open windows, and open trunks. People can be a bit oblivious lol, but at least there are safety features in place to notify the driver if something is not properly closed. Nevertheless, I don’t think it’s fair that this gives the C8 a bad rep. Outside of this, I’ve heard nothing but great things about the car. This was a cool, informative video man 👍🏼 thank you

    • @CarsCostsandTechnology
      @CarsCostsandTechnology  3 роки тому +1

      I agree. Even if it's not their fault it's nice to see that GM wants to make the car more user-friendly and as safe as possible.

  • @superchief15

    Human error. Don’t close your drives door by pulling the door storage pocket. The two buttons at the front of the pocket open the front and back trunk before you start your car! Look at the hood from the drivers seat. You can see if it is ajar. When you start the C8 pay attention to audio alarms, it has a bunch! Look at the instrument cluster fir a bright Red Warning and a message, “Your front trunk is open. Your Vehicle will not exceed 82 mph. I think they meant to make that 28 mph and mis coded the feather.

    I love Corvettes. Have a 427 C5 convertible. But what the HELL were engineers thinking by limiting the speed so high? The whole thing could've been prevented had they opened it from the windshield end, as traditional Corvettes hoods opened. Oh well, GM quality control has been going downhill a LONG time.......

  • @EB-nq6xy

    The frunk release that’s actually in the frunk is the problem, if you have stuff in there and it somehow hits the release button while driving(hard cornering), it will open.

    **HINGE THE FRONT HOOD AT THE FRONTMOST EDGE**
    Since this car with its Lotus Esprit-derived chassis is a derivative, at least they could have thought this through and copied the Esprit front hood:
    "Bob, the engine's in the back now - so we don't need the front hood to have the hinges at the firewall at the windshield - we can put the hinges at the front edge of the hood. Added safety feature. That way, the hood will never fly open. Since there's no engine up front that they'll need easy access to, why don't we put the hinges on the front of the hood lid?"
    "Sammy, we're GM. The thrill of an accidental hood pop-up is worth it to do the illogical. That means we gotta keep the hinges in the old fashion location - right at the windshield."
    "Bob, I say again, there's an opportunity here to completely eliminate the chance of an accidental front hood pop-up. Like that scene from Tommy Boy, when Chris Farley forgot to take the oil can off the engine and the hood popped up."
    "Sammy, Tommy Boy was a good movie. That was David Spade's GTX. The front hood hinges were at the windshield, if you recall. That's why there was an opportunity for accidental front hood pop-up at high speed. We want that for the 2020 corvette. Fun times and hoods a-poppin. We're freaking GM."

    It amazes me when people ignore the owners manual. Jump into the car of the future and treat it like your grandmother's Celica. Reminds me of the guy who drowned in his C7 because he didn't know how to open the doors without power. No shortage of stupid folks with a spare $60K lying around.

      @@CarsCostsandTechnologyNice that they can address it with a firmware update. Considering no Corvette hood has EVER opened that way, I can see how folks make the mistake. Really, I blame GM for calling their new V8 Fiero a Corvette. If they called it what it really is, people would be more inclined to read the book. The only thing on a so-called C8 I sort of recognize as Corvette-like are the badges. They're a misnomer.
