Nice motor control implementation. I also dislike the (too regular) bump-bump-bump that seems so common. On my monster crate I used a solenoid and a microcontroller to fire it at semi-random intervals so that the sequence is different each time the prop is triggered.
Can’t find the controller with recording. Any suggestions? I tried monster gut, but they only have a motor speed controller. Very nice job on your prop 🎃
Yeah, I guess they discontinued it. It's a drag because I can't find anything else like it anywhere online. You can have either speed control or record function in any given prop controller but not both. 😠
Is there any chance you have more detailed pictures or instructions on how you mounted that cam to the motor? Mine doesn't seem to be getting enough torque or stability to push the lid up. I don't think my lid is too heavy, it's on a rather light steamer trunk I bought similar to yours. I think it's more an issue of not having enough stability. Thanks!!

@@jco685 I did mine like that as well but the cam keeps falling off of the motor's threaded shaft. The coupling bolt keeps coming loose and the cam wobbles off after 20-30 seconds. Maybe the lid *is* too heavy? Maybe try loctite on the coupling bolt and wiper motor threads? Thanks for your reply
Yeah, maybe Loctite would work but be careful with that, once you've done it there's no going back. Maybe the hole of the cam isn't perfectly lined up with the threaded hole and it's putting a little pressure on it with every revolution and loosening the bolt little by little? You mentioned stability before, maybe make a heavy wooden frame to attach the motor to like I did? Its impossible for me to say definitively without actually being there. Maybe try to contact the Undercover Monsters guy who did the tutorial, see what he says, maybe he has some ideas. Wish I could help more but that's about all I can say.
I didn't keep receipts, but if I were starting with absolutely nothing (trunk, motor and controller, boom box, wood, hardware, and misc. God-knows-what) I would guess $150 -$200. Depends on many things - can you get some of the stuff used for a great price, do you have scrap wood and hardware already lying around - etc etc etc.

I didn't wire it into the control board, its just a free-standing boom box plugged into the same extension cord as the board.
Why do you have a Queen album in the bottom of your trunk?
It's a hardcover book I had laying around. I just wanted to keep the electronics off the floor of the trunk.
