You can change the 6th string for a first string and tune it like a regular G-banjo with an additional bass string. Then you can put a 5th string capo on the 6th string and play all the regular banjo riffs on it.
Could you explain it again? I'm new to banjos and planning to get one with 6 strings, so I can play like on normal guitar. But I also would like to have an option to play like on a regular 5 string banjo, but without buying it seperately.
Hi Work'n Man's Life, Sorry for the delayed response, I've been (and still am) working on my website. I'm actually a 5 string banjo player, but was doing those videos because I had a student wanting to learn 6 sting banjo. I would like to continue providing videos for 5 string bluegrass banjo and guitar. I hope you will have an interest in those! By the way, my new website is chuckclark.online. Thanks for subscribing! Chuck
He's using a re-tuned 5 string banjo. If you want to play bluegrass, get a 5 string banjo and learn to play it. For country, a 6 string banjo will work, it just sounds like a guitar with a banjo tone.
Hi Motor, I seem to have lost track of the tab. Perhaps I'll get to work on that an get it for you. Are you a guitar player wanting to learn the banjo? What are your challenges?
I know I might be two years late but I am a brand new learner I just bought a 6 string banjo and Idk how to play guitar so I would love the tabs for this!
Wuffaj00 yes there is, it was popularized by Sonny Osborne. It’s played just like a 5 string, but has a low G string in between the low D and drone string.
I'm not sure Chief "popularized" it. He tried, but it got as much cultural penetration as Eddie Adcock's "Gitbo" (a 2 neck electric instrument with banjo and Tele in one)
Hi Jhon, I actually using a 5 string banjo tuned as a guitar. 1st string E, 2nd string B, 3rd String G, 4th string D. Tell me what challenges you have? Are you a guitar player wanting to learn the banjo? Do you want to learn a 5 string banjo? Thanks for watching and the comment!
@@ChuckClarkonline well Chuck I use the banjo with the guitar tuning and the standard banjo with the first string in D and really thank you for this awesome video!!!
+Blood Of The Green : Yeah, I had to go to his Page to figure out what he's doing. I think he calls it six string banjo, because he has the four main strings tuned like the four High strings on a guitar (aka Standard tuning) DGBE, and doesn't use the 5th string at all. I'm looking at getting a six string banjo, and have tuned a guitar to a variety of open G tunings, which I think is easier, especially if you aren't going to play a high G. I wish he wouldn't call it "6 String Banjo" unless it was actually on a 6 string banjo. Oh well.
+Coverband02 I have a 6-string banjo and I play it as a guitare for celtic songs, but I change to DADGAD to play Cripple Creek and other country tune ;)
+Blood Of The Green: I've been using a little six-string guitar for slide, tuned in open G (DGDGBD), G minor (DGDGA#D), and drop High D Standard (EADGBD), which lets me play (mostly ) whole chords, but still play slide on the high four. That's what got me interested in the six-string banjo. I play a five-string, but I'm not as fast or nimble as I used to be. I'm hoping a six-string banjo can help me compensate.
getting fed up with these vids where people don't play the tune first. we have to sit through a whole bunch of talking and note...without knowing if the guy can play for shit. done this about the last 4 vids i found for 6 string banjo... 30 secs of play time outta here. Put up or shut up I say...sorry if your really good..but i don't hve the time. if it were me i would start out by playing the tune..i couldn't imagine doing it any other wayy??????wtf??
Thank you for the video I already I a 59 year old trying to learn how to play a 6 string banjo I hope I can learn soon
already 59?? what have you been doing

I find it funny in today's panademic that 4 years ago it seems the main concern was whether or not this man was playing a 5 or 6 string banjo.
Hi Motomanic, yes, you are right, but anytime, maybe especially during a pandemic is a good time to play the banjo!
Thank you for this video sir. You play the 6 string banjo better than I do. :)

What tuning are you using on this six string banjo? I am currently tuned to guitar standard tuning but want to get more banjo-like

Or get a PROPER 6 String banjo like Sonny made, with the low G
Ye see mates playing this in albuquerque don't ya
You can also strum the 6 string Ganjo....look here ua-cam.com/video/8s6mDblzSa4/v-deo.html
Can I tune it like a banjo and just have the extra bass strings?
No, I broke a string trying it
Yes you can
The link at the end of this video doesint seem to work. Is there anywhere else I can find the tab for this song?

It's a Guitar arrangement man, & a 6 String Banjo has that sound
Is that a banjo guitar or a six string bluegrass banjo?

Blood Of The Green umm. There's definitely six there sir.. ya blind
I'd thought it was gonna be like Sonny's 6 string...

@ raindogred couldn’t agree with you more! Play the dammed song first so we can see if we are even interested In learning it.
Hi Rain, You are right! I should have played through the tune first. I'll correct that on the next video! Thanks for letting me know.
