Followed this tutorial to the letter and all the steps mentioned were understood clearly and I followed them. Now I have Windows11 and LMDE 6 in dual boot mode. Thanks for an excellent tutorial. Using G parted and editing the etc/default/grub file with nano felt on top of the world like geeks. Hahahaha. Thanks for sharing your knowledge

Hello! I've always really enjoyed your videos! I'm a Linux enthusiast who loves Linux a lot. I've learned a great deal from your content, and the quality is excellent. Hope you keep creating these helpful videos! Keep up the good work, don't give up, you've got a lot of people supporting you! By the way, could you explain the differences between the regular version of Linux Mint and LMDE? Currently, my favorite distribution is Linux Mint, and I really like the Cinnamon desktop environment! However, I'm still not clear on the distinctions between the two

Thank you so much. Well, Regular version is based on Ubuntu. LMDE stands for Linux mint debian edition. It is based on debian and stable than ubuntu.

I am about to try it, why did it take you until 3am? What went wrong or how were the instructions different?
I want to try this and am not so sure now.
A few months ago I tried a dual boot with Ubuntu and had to recover the computer as it wouldn't work. I really wanted to try KALI too.
The main thing I want to do is get away from Microsoft Windows, use Linux on a laptop, but keep it there in the background just in case I need to use it for something.

@@Bond2025 I was up until 3am doing it MY WAY first. This procedure worked the second try. Follow the instructions given here and you won't stay up until 3am. The only reason it took me 2 tries after watching this was I didn't follow the instructions perfectly. I made an oopsie. I have done this many times with regular mint without any help. LMDE is different. Flagging the partitions is very important. I was not doing that. Follow the instructions and you'll be fine. Just make backups of any critical info first. I started with a fresh windows install followed by this install procedure. Just follow the instructions. Standard Ubuntu Mint will just figure it out for you. I was unaware that you had to tag the partitions. I had literally installed Windows and LMDE like 4 times trying to figure this out myself.

I have followed your dual boot how to videos in the past and they have always worked perfectly. You do an excellent job of explaining how to set up a dual boot system. I do have a question. Is this method of setting up a separate boot partition only specific to the debian versions, or can this be used on all linux versions. For example, if I install the ubuntu version of Linux Mint, can I follow these instructions, or should I follow your other video with creating the root and swap partitions and grub is installed on the windows efi paritition. Just curious, I actually think this video makes more sense. THANK YOU and GREAT JOB!

Was trying to install this on my Mom's computer since she has an older laptop (~2015) and Windows 10 runs horribly on it. Everything went fine up until I rebooted, and it skipped right past Grub and went straight to Windows. I disabled Secure Boot and Fast Startup. I started thinking, wouldn't it make more sense to install Grub to the EFI partition that Windows already boots from? In your case it looks like having two EFI partitions worked, but I'm wondering if that doesn't work in every case.

so creating a separate /boot partition for linux is beneficial. i installed my grub bootloader in the same partition as the root. i didnt create anything else. once the installation was finished, it corrupted the windows bootloader. i managed to repair the grub bootloader using some linux terminal magic and i could boot into linux but windows bootloader remained screwed.

It didn't work for me, Idk why. I could assume a lot of things, like my windows might be installed legacy BIOS, or it may be because I use Ventoy, etc.
I wasn't able to find nor access windows on the GRUB menu.

Same here, it's skipping Grub! Don't have Security Boot option in Bios, so I can't disable it. Maybe that's the reason! Gonna try another Distro!

It might be because I didn't dedicate my SSD to linux, instead, I used a partition on my HDD to install linux mint.
Nowadays, I'm retrying Linux mint without the dual boot. I'll switch to pop_OS once I'm done doing my stuff on my computer.

With LMDE I had to assign a drive letter with DiskPart and delete the debian folder from the windows EFI partition. No biggie, just not sure why Grub created a directory in the windows EFI partition when other disto's do not.
