There are certain types of weather that are perfect for truck camping. Full sun and 90° for stretches of days is far from perfect. Join us as we cover some ground, open up about some struggles, and finally find the perfect spot to cool off.
Hope you have a LARGE day!

Don’t miss the Beartooth Highway drive between Red Lodge and Cooke City. It might be the most beautiful drive in America.
Its first on our list!
You sit in that cooler water and cool down your core temp you not only feel better for many hours later, but you lose a lot of fat. Your body burns a bunch of calories trying to stay warm and keep your body temp up.
Good to know!
Make a stop at Grant Kohrs National Historic site in Deer Lodge. Some pretty cool history there. I was a Teacher Range Teacher there for two summers.😊
Thanks for the suggestion!
You really need to replace that refrigerator. The newer ones are not that inconsistent. I have a Lance 855s and I turn the fridge to 12 volt while driving, and gas when still and it works great. Stays right at 38-40 all the time. You are also going to find that air is a necessity. I have an on board onan which will run the air at night, whilerecharging the batteries quickly.
You should swap out that fridge for a new one. And install an air unit and get yourself a generator to run the air at night. It will be the best money you spend.
Great video!! Might be time to invest in a 2500watt generator and an ac unit. I know storage for a generator will be a challenge but if you guys can find somewhere to store it for traveling, a 2500 watt generator will power 13,500 btu ac unit no problem and then those super hot nights can be comfortable and you’ll have more travel options cause heat won’t be a problem. Just a thought.
We've been considering it, just not sure how much time we're planning to spend in the heat! But a generator will likely be in our 12 month future
Looks awesome there. I know you may have other plans, but if you're going to keep your camper for the foreseeable future, you may want to get a small 5k A/C unit. I have a slide in, and when I had no a/c it sucked! Then I put in the unit. Night and day difference. Wasn't that much either. Plus now when I stay in hookup sites I can run it as long as I want. Keep up the good work!
I've enjoyed your videos and Subscribed. Question...why do you guys always crouch down when talking to the camera? Can't you raise the camera up a little. Just looks a little strange at times. Well, all the time. Hope you guys make this lifestyle work financially. A lot of young couples try this and soon realize that can't afford it by depending on UA-cam money alone. With so many full time rv'ers out there making videos, you have a lot of competition. Viewers get impatient and move on if there's not a lot of variety and interesting content. Good luck to you guys and safe travels!
They're a bit spendy, but Isotherm makes some great 12v fridges. Might be cost effective in not having to get rid of spoiled food in the long run.
What I like is you being honest about how bad it can be at times. It's being realistic that everything is not always perfect.
only 14K... how?! nice work
Sorry about the bees and your other challenges but so glad you managed to escape. I love the fact that you guys share your lows as well as your highs. So lucky to have each other & Barkley! Safe travels.
Thank you for your continued support, Joe!
Are you going to be going to Yellowstone or grand Teton national park while you’re in Wyoming? My family and I will be there 9/11- 9/20
Nesting problem looks like packrats, which are prevalent especially in the southwest. I bought a Rid-a-Rat @ Ace Hardware. It’s a small strobe light with a super strong magnet that I put on the cross member under the engine then connected the leads to the battery. Very very low draw. Hope this helps.
Camco makes awning tie downs. You can get a pair for about $15. The only cool air up that way is Ocean Shores, WA. I think it is about 72 degrees in the day and in the 50’s at night.
Missed your videos 😮 haven’t seen in while welcome back always good to see them Happy Trails and Journeys
you should get a small converter that you could have charged your battery while driving the 7 hours, back when i was younger i remember my dad had a blowup square pillow type thing that goes between the rear cab window to the window in your truck camper and you could have sent some of the aair conditioning on that 7 hour ride to the camper and help cool down the camper, good luck on your travels.
I traveled in an RV with my wife and 2 kids. We did 3 years. On this adventure i learned the most valuable electric POWER tip ever.
You need the very very small Honda generator. The new little EU2000i or if funds are tight you can find an older 600watt Honda. The 600w has a nice metal case but still fairly light weight.
With either of these very very small generators you can let it run all day and night if you are alone. They are very quiet and best of all run an entire day on 1 gallon of gas. I started with a big generator 6500 watts and solar panels. That did not work. Gallons of gas the 6500 sucked up so it only run a few hours a day and solar panels we where not keeping up with our batteries. They where always dead. But a fellow RV 'er said get the tiny honda and let it run all the time. Low power but runs 8 hours plus on a gallon of gas. This long run time consistently putting power into the batteries was a game changer. I built a small platform on the rear bumper to mount the tiny Honda gen on. Fire it up and let it run while driving and traveling. Our batteries where always fully charged and that was huge. In the evening we run the tiny generator while watching a movie and charging phones computer ect. Low power generator but long run times is the way to go. Fuel efficiency and consistent power is key. Buy the tiny Honda and a good oversize power cord at least 50ft long. You can talk while these tiny generators run but its nice to put it out away from your rig. I am telling you it will change everything for the better. Please consider this tip. You will be happy you did.
For rat o little creatures You can try to place some original banner green soap pieces. .. and that keep them away. i used before and its works for me. Also I put them in my attic .. they go away with the soap smell
Great videos .. keep it up .. all that bad things of camping are part of the deal leaving style . Take care
You two definitely need a solar generator 2500 watts or maybe a 5000watt..the only way to go
Cooler temps and moving water makes everything better
Great video!! Love that you show real life and it’s not always perfect! Hope you have cool temps coming!
I have a 2005 Lance slide -in. My refrigerator warms up as well in this heat, but mostly only when I am driving. My research so far is making me think the problem is air flow in this high heat. I just ordered fans to install in the right side to help suck in more air. I might install one at the exhaust on the roof. Otherwise, if I am sitting still the fridge seems to cool okay. Sharing for what's worth. I enjoy your videos...esp since i have similar camper. It fits on my 98 Dodge 2500 quad cab 4x4. Currently getting 12 mpg. Safe travels.
I totally agree with your thoughts on the air flow. Looking into fans currently so hopefully we can find something good!
Deffinitely a fan to circulate aire behind the fridge... and a DC to DC charger to keep your batteries full while you drive.... maybe even run your fridge on gas while driving?
Thanks for the tip! Just picked up an alternator charger so we'll be installing that in a coming video. And we do run on propane while driving, but the longer travel days are hard on it
Get a $40 RV vent fan for your fridge. I have a lance 650 and got tired of warm beer. I travel 4 months in summer and lately was from Arizona to Myrtle Beach. Absorbtion fridges need to remove hot air from behind. Don't buy a new one! Looking forward to your next videos
Thanks for the tip! I'll have to look into the fan option
Since you have an ecoflow power supply, why dont you get their 5k btu AC and not perish at night. There is a dometic dc powered a/c unit as well. For your fridge, replace it with a NovaKool or other 12v dc compressor based option. I did in our Lance travel trailer. They simply work.
We've considered it, just don't have the space for a portable AC unit in our setup although it would be nice certain times!
We chased higher elevations and cool temperatures while truck camping over the past week. We decided to camp at a campground in Capitol Reef National Park that had no hookups. It was 94° that day with an expected low of 68°. It was hot in the camper and there had been a heavy rain just before we got there. We opened our windows and turned on the roof fan to draw the air inside. Some kid in the campground built a huge fire with wet wood so needless to say it was extremely smokey and of course, so was the inside of the truck camper. We left the next morning and headed back into the higher elevations of Colorado. So glad we did!
I hope you guys are able to get an A/C for next summer. Safe travels!
People and the smokey fires! Drives me nuts.
We recently had to spend a few days outside Phoenix Arizona and we don't have AC in our rebuilt 50ish years old truck camper. The desert in the Superstition Mountains is beautiful. It was not pleasant baking in the afternoon heat. The sunsets were great though and we were able to sleep well. We really enjoyed our camping spots at higher altitudes among the pine trees in Colorado and New Mexico.
Maybe you need a fan behind your refridge, it shouldn't be struggling that much to keep cool in ninety degrees, Have fun, that's a beautiful part of our country. Safe Travels
I've been looking into those recently, might just make the difference!
You guys should try and go to Whitefish Mt while your there! It’s a beautiful little paradise! If your even in Montana still.😳🤗
I've heard it's gorgeous! We'll have to try and check it out
why don't you guys install an ac
Do you guys ever worry about your little fur baby getting ticks? Just be safe. Love your channel! Be safe out there!❤️❤️
We check him nightly! He's only had them bad twice thankfully but he takes medicine to kill them as well
What breed is your dog?
This is the third video in a row and I've had to resubscribe to your channel, again today and everyday youtube has tried to determine what I should listen to by Unsubscribing me from this channel. Trying to decide what I like to listen too. And what is good for me
Get you some battery operated fans! We used them when we tent camped! Get you one of those small ceiling fans, solar or electric, they do make a different!
Thanks for the suggestion!
How do you find these amazing free spot? The one on the river in Montana is gorgeous!
Usually compendium! Its the most user friendly app in my opinion
Why not just get AC?
I was born and raised in the upper Midwest and as soon as I finished school I headed west to California to escape the humidity and bugs.
I’ve never looked back…
I really enjoy your videos, thanks for taking us along. 😊
I'm sure its nice not having to deal with them anymore!
This is such a cool thing! So jealous!! Met you both a couple years ago in Harbor Springs, I’m an old friend of your father Amelia…Kerry Plum. I happened upon this by way of a FB friend suggestion of your Uncle Mark, and when I clicked on his page, I saw you and Connor…and here we are! LOL. What a beautiful journey you are on…this beautiful country we’ve been blessed with, good for you to get out and see it and experience it all. Safe travels and if you ever swing back through SC let me know!
I look forward to looking back on your adventures not sure how long ago you began.
Enjoy every moment of it…🥂
I thinking your nest might be from a pack rat.
Good idea, I’ve started checking it daily
EcoFlow A/C
Moon burn 😂
Got some nice video. You are fun to watch.
Thank you!
So cool!!! Livin the dream!
Thank you!
Another great Video .... 👊🏻
Thank you, Robert!!
Thanks u tube for being such a joy. I pay for this service too.
you two are just made for each other .. such a nice couple 😊
You Guys Really Need To Get Air-conditioning The Portable Ones Are Sorted reasonable in price. I think both of you would be much happier and enjoy your time on the road?? Take Care!!!
It sure would be nice! Just don't have anywhere to store it for the few nights we'd need it. It'll definitely be on our next camper though!
Nice video! Hope you get cooler weather soon. While in Montana, check out Greycliff Mill, not far from Prairie Dog Town. It's a beautiful HH and they had great coffee, too!
Thanks for the suggestion!
👍👍👍
Your beautiful camping spot beside that river in Montana made me homesick. For about 12 years I visited my cousin in Dillon for a couple of weeks in the summer. Sure do love that state! Safe travels!
It was gorgeous! Glad we could remind you of home, thanks for tuning in!
Awesome video
Thank you!
Hi. We love your channel. We just finished watching the last episode where you beat the heat and camped free right on the river in Montana. Please tell us how to find that camping spot. We definitely want to put it into our upcoming plans. Thank you.
Thank you for watching! We found this spot on campendium, usually where we find most of our spots. It was right south of Big Timber, MT
Glad you found some cooler temps. Definitely miserable in the heat. Safe travels!
Us too! It's been so nice waking up to cooler weather. Thanks for the support!
We were on a trip recently that was supposed to be just under 5 hours. The trip finally ended around the 9 hour later. How does Barkley handle these long days driving?
It sure does add up when we travel slower and have to stop relatively frequently!
About 15 years ago I stood on that exact trail assessing flood waters on the Missouri River and the amount of debris in the river.
I'm sure it was quite different then!
Hi guys. That River over your shoulder was the Heat River. The mouth of the Heart River goes into the Missouri River in the campground. The Missouri River it’s east of the Heart River about half a mile in your video. I’m glad you enjoyed our state.
Ah yes, I knew it wasn't quite the missouri but couldn't remember the name. Thanks for the correction!
What an amazing place to spend a few days. Water, cooler tempatures and only the sound of flowing water.....ideal. Hey have you guys thought about adding a solar powered fridge vent, the fan mounts inside the back side vent compartment to aid in high tempature cooling. Best part is it works on solar so when you need it in hot weather you have free power for it.
Thank you! I'll have to look into the solar fridge fan, that might be ideal!
That stream was awesome. Great place for just enjoying life.
It sure was! Thanks, Jim
Just something great about listening to and watching a river...
It sure is nice!
Love the bloopers. Thanks for another great video.
Glad you enjoyed them!
