- The pandemic has threatened an industry dating back to the middle ages, but 6 lady showwomen are fighting back to save not just the fun fairs but also their way of life.
These ride manufacturers need commendations.. how they make these rides to fold up to be able to be pulled is just genius..and the larger rides being assembled in such a short time is just amazing.. pure skill and expertise by these fair men and women who rig them up ,just amazing.
How they pack away is as impressive as how the rides work. Always amazes me seeing the giant machines unfold.
Know as the shows here in Scotland. There is real buzz in every town when they are here. The best form of entertainment for adults and children there is.
Absolutely agree, can't beat the atmosphere of a fairground, no matter how old or young you are.
Good documentary about hard working folk. I wanted to be a showman when I was younger, I always thought it would have been a good way of life.
Great film. Lifelong fairground fan and great to see them back in action. Great time at Lytham on Sunday and looking forward to Morecambe next week. Good luck to all for the future.
Thanks for watching, have a great time at Morecombe
It was great to be back at Witney Feast last week. I always enjoy the atmosphere of the fair 😊

Brilliant documentary and wondered if you had seen it Dave then you pop up in it brilliant!
Brilliant informative video.
Thanks for posting.
Love the older rides.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it.
Excellent documentary, thanks to all involved for making this an enjoyable and informative watch.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. Hopefully it'll help inform those who don't understand the industry.
Glad you got to watch it and enjoyed it. We would be grateful if you could share it on your website or local in the Blackpool area. My grandparents are from Blackpool, spent a lot of my childhood there.
@@narvenkanoyce22 Hi Narvenka, I will gladly share it in on my Twitter tomorrow morning (ClubPBE). I recently reached out to Marcus too about sharing it in our Facebook group and I believe a lot of people clicked to watch it. More than happy to help, I don’t believe it’s right that so much discrimination is going on preventing fun fairs taking place. We all need the joy of the fun fair.
A well put documentary showing a great insight to the history of the fair ground. Really great work from the 6 ladies who have stood up for their heritage and the future of it.
Glad you liked the documentary and thanks for watching. The F4F ladies are doing an amazing job.
The best documentary on youtube. I hope the fairs will recover and become bigger and better than ever before. #futureforfairs. Life would be boring without them.
Absolutely agree, life would be boring without the colour and excitement of a fairground. Glad you liked the documentary and thanks for watching.
Amazing documentary, well done!
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it
Brilliant, this is such a good production. Well done to all involved... Where's my interview 🤣
Now how many times did I nudge you about an interview. Had to make do with using Dave instead.
Im a showman and it is my dream to be in the showman’s guild
What a lovely insight of the impact covid has had on the showman industry such a shame they have had such a hard year last year im glad they are getting recognised as a business they need credit where credits due. Hard working men and women in all weathers. And i nice little caption of slothy vlogs.❤
Thank you, hopefully it helps spread the word and shed more light on the showman industry. Slothy needed a lot of make up to try and make him look good in the video.
@@MarcusGainesCoasterTouring I bet half of the production cost went into make-up and hairdressers for Dave alone. Great documentary, glad to see fairs are back and they are all very busy.
Good for the lady's and gents of the fairground world..we commend you all including the manufacturers of the rides.
Fantastic documentary there Marcus, enjoyed every minute of it. 👍👍👍
Cheers, have to get you in the next one.
Brilliant Documentary, It Gives A Really Truthful Insight About The Fairs 👍🏻
Thanks for watching and glad you like it.
The rides there are much cleaner in appearance than what we have in the U.S.
Excellent work my friend!
Thanks Adam, glad you enjoyed it.
As a boy in the 70s, I loved the fair pulling into our town for a week. I just loved watching the build-up. How these guys and gal's lived, I just wanted to travel with them, but Mother wouldn't allow that ,never mind school. I would say.
Then the fair it's self especially at night great atmosphere, the lights, the noise, it will always stay with me great times
Absolutely, great times indeed.
Interesting documentary more people should see this, they put very effort into making people happy and making money, one day I want to own a fairground ride
nothing better than that life
I love the scene, never leave me till the day i die, i will go to fairs go on rides, the day i cannot do this will be very sad for me, I grew up in Salford, Cross lane Silcocks. trying Goose this year, first time, really nice video and insight, thanks for posting
Glad you liked the documentary and thanks for watching. Hoping to get to Goose this year as well.

This is Brilliant. I will share on Orton Images Facebook
Glad you enjoyed it. Please do share where possible and help spread the word.
I remember when a small fair visited our town every year. This was in the mid 70` so kids my age knew how to have proper fun. It was a highlight...Until the local council banned it from all towns in its jurisdiction, Only 8`-10 kids were maimed on every visit on average andy 4 kids got killed each year. I dont know what the fuss was all about
Great documentary well done future for Fairgrounds very interesting and well made teach the public about one great industry 👍
Glad you liked it, Future 4 Fairgrounds are doing a great job of raising awareness for the industry.
@@MarcusGainesCoasterTouring I no I support future for Fairgrounds I worked on the fair for nearly 20 years and I love the life and the show people
I will always support all the funfairs & I will always support the showman & I will always support the show woman
Would love to work and travel on the fair amazing job ,keep up the good work we have our fair in ilkeston Derbyshire for the 790th year 👏 geat work
I travelled fun fair as a younger man. We did Ilkeston in 1974 with Collin's waltzer.
I loved the job and went all over the country with different rides.
Rainy gaf's could get us down, especially on a wet pull down.
Cool video
Thank you :)
Excellent
Thanks Nigel
The opening ride, the sizzler, earlier I seen a piece on a girl who sadly passed from being thrown out of that ride😔
I’ve not heard of anyone passing away from falling out of a sizzler in the UK. Where and when did it happen?
@@MarcusGainesCoasterTouring It's in the states, I'll link it...

I love the fun fair
Have a amazing history .one that needs to continue to be supported when they hit your village/town. We have walls(?) fair come to us and not coincidentally They are behind my house right at this moment..I live on the edge of a park and they are doing a cheap night tonight so it's very busy out there ..some great rides...I've just seen some featured here..most probably the exact ones. And these peep speaking poss out there with them..lol..fantastic life..one I'd have loved to have followed. But my life took different direction...
Respect
i personally think the pandemic has been the biggest form of government concocted BS this century, id love to be a ride owning showman, and id love to take rides out, the worst fears of the fairs disappearing is, the younger generations of showmens families arent interested anymore, they would rather sit with their eyes glued to their phones
I will always be on funfair side & I will always be on showman side & I will always be on showwowan side
❤
Very interesting film.
My question, can anyone buy a ride and get a space at a fairground or is it a closed industry based on your family?
Glad you liked it.
In answer to your question, it depends who is the organiser of the fair.. My understanding is that Under Showmans Guild rules, once someone has attended a fair for 2 consecutive years they have the right to that same size space in the same spot at future fairs, This is why you often see the same ride in the same place year after year. If a showman buys a new ride they need to be sure it'll fit in the same space they have the right to. I believe showmen can also sell their rights or pass on to a family member.
Some organisers keep swapping particular spaces so no one gets the rights, call it a guest spot. It means they can invite someone with a different ride to attend the fair.
If however it's a private event then anyone can hire their ride. I believe if the fair is on private land then there's also no rights given, but I may be incorrect on that.
We Americans do have fairs, you know? 😂 Also, half of the rides in this video depict American characters and places.
I’ve been to many fairs in America, have filmed with a number of American showmen, have filmed a number of rides belonging to American showmen whilst under construction at factories in Europe.
Out of interest, which of your fairs are a charter fair? Charter fairs are ones that date back hundreds of years and are protected in law having been granted by the monarchy. Several countries have charter fairs, but wasn’t aware you had them in America.
It’s charter fairs that are specifically referenced in the opening sequence. There’s no mention of America not having any fairs.
