Installed my Garmin Striker Plus 4 fish finder to my Hobie Pro Angler 12 using this method this morning. Still $1.18 from Lowes and worked like a champ. So happy to have found this video, thanks
I'm 3 years late to the party, and I seldom log in to UA-cam but I had to take a moment to thank you for doing this video. This is my kind of solution to this problem. Lowrance ready... a pair of brackets and it's Garmin ready. Cheers, liked and subbed.
@@KayakFishingAddict the only thing that sucked was I got this second hand and it didn't have those plastic parts with it. I had to buy a $40 kit just for that lol
Thanks for taking the time to post this. I actually have a garmin striker plus 4cv and it has a completely different transducer which is much longer and actually is impossible to fit inside the lowrance ready plate without cutting off a lot of plastic. It would stick out of the front of the plate and prevent me from screwing in the plate. The clamps did not work for the 4cv plus transducer, and it was a painstaking effort but I have finally Finished. But I have to say that your video was helpful to piece together the basic elements of what needed to be done to make it work. I applaud you for putting in the effort to help others on UA-cam. Thank you!
Awesome video. I just bought a Hobie PA 14 a week ago and my Garmin Striker 4 just came in today. Thank you for posting this, i would of been lost in the sauce figuring out how to mount it.
Super helpful, installing my current Garmin Striker Plus 4 transducer on my new Hobie Outback and didn't want to have to modify the mounting plate to make it work, great video.
I’m really glad I came across your channel. This is the fix I was looking for. I also enjoy your fishing videos. I moved from south Louisiana to Tennessee years ago and miss the marsh fishing. Keep posting and thank you.
Thanks for your question....and for watching and subscribing! I chose the Compass for two main reasons. 1. Weight and 2. Cost/Value. At the time I purchased my Compass I didn't have a truck, so I car topped it. That entails lifting the kayak over the top of the car and placing it on the roof racks upside down. There's no way I wanted to do that with the Pro Angler....I'd need a fork lift. The same is also true now that I have a truck. I still wouldn't want to lift the PA. So why not the Outback? I think the Outback is a great yak! For me, it still was heavy but when I looked at the price of the Outback versus the Compass + the simple Mods I wanted ( ua-cam.com/video/42A8-aEJY7w/v-deo.html ) I figured the Compass would serve me better and save some money. Today, now that I've had it, I'm 100% positive that I made the right choice. The only thing I wish I had were the kick up fins! See my video on how I rigged the Compass for efficient fishing ( ua-cam.com/video/42A8-aEJY7w/v-deo.html ). If I rigged an Outback the same way I would have a lot of wasted space and wasted weight!
Exactly what I was looking for! Bought a used 2021 Outback and am missing a few pieces of the lowrance hardware, so may have to improvise even further.
Very helpful! Are the two-hole strap corrosion resistant enough for salt water? Also after you properly tighten the bolts/nuts, will the transducer move up or down at all? Thank you!
@@KayakFishingAddict indeed made them about 2.5 millimeters to thick so I’m printing up a second version so I have more room for the threads on the bolts to come through to tighten them down better and using millimeters is easer in my 3D cad design software for more accurate measurements now tomorrow I should be able to try and put it on the kayak lowrance plate and see if I need to make it longer at all but I think it should be spot on unless I need to add any humps to go around the transducer ledge
Actually I found out why. According to the Hobie owner manual, you need at least an 1/8” of space between the transducer and protective plate to allow water flow. I guess this will give you a more accurate reading.
Outstanding! I did something very similar using the parts from the transducer mounting kit. But I did not put it an 1/8 of an inch away from the plate. Why the 1/8 inch? Sometimes I get in the water and things work fine sometimes I get in the water and it doesn’t work at all. All my connections are good. Any input would be greatly appreciated, thank you!
Water is supposed to surround the transducer. If you press it against the plastic shield and it is tight and never moves you’ll likely be ok. If it moves or vibrates on the plastic shield it will likely mess up the readings.
Question: do those EMT straps rust at all? If so, do you see those nasty rust marks on the bottom of your kayak? I know they make plastic ones as well and I'm just wondering if you picked the metal version because that's what was available or because of the structural aspect as opposed to plastic.
Do they rust? I took the plastic plate off quite a few months ago and there was some but not enough to worry about. I haven't replaced them yet. I was searching for a solution for days and made several trips to Lowe's ....I never found any plastic ones...so to answer your question, I picked up the metal version because that's what I found that worked.
I just discovered my emt straps completely rusted off. I fish almost every weekend in salt water and rinse. Not bad for a cheap part lasting 3 years. Just replace the emt strap cuz they are cheap. Also the garmin bolt/screw rusted too
Will this still work with the side-imaging transducer on a Garmin Striker 7sv mounted to a new Hobie PA-14 with the Hobie Guardian transducer mount? Thanks.
Sorry, I have no idea. It did work on my 2022 Outback with the Garmin Striker 4 Transducer. You'll have to compare the 7sv's mount connection to the 4's and if they're the same then it will likely work.
Hey Ron! Amazing video. Helped out a lot. Just wondering, when you install the Garmin Striker 4 Transducer underneath the hull, does the Garmin still tell the speed of the kayak? Since I troll, knowing my speed is essential while I’m fishing. Thanks!
Hmmm, you're teaching me something here....I didn't know that the Garmin even showed the speed :). I'll have to check that next time out....but my guess is that it determines speed via GPS which will work regardless of the location of the transducer.

I'm using the standard Garmin Striker 4 Transducer (Transom/Trolling Motor Dual Beam). It looks to be more compact than the one that comes with the Echomap but it will likely still work... although it may stick out of the Lowrance ready shield on the bottom of the compass.
My thoughts exactly! The clamp is the only non-stainless steel item. The EMT version of the components should take longer to corrode if they do at all. Since it's all connected with stainless steel parts and plastic the only danger I thought about is that it would rust through and the transducer would drop and rest on the bottom of the Lowrance plate. The nuts and bolts should stay since they're sandwiched in the Lowrance mounting plastic slots and the other is in the plastic transducer that's connected via the transducer cable. A quick annual check on it with a backup set of clamps from the same package should be all that's needed.
Martin Mayhew i was thinking about that. I really like the idea. I wonder if you could use a piece of plastic instead. Thanks so much for the eye opener though. I don’t really care for Lowrance and have garmin as well.
